Introduction
These release notes are for 3D Drill View KM, a DecisionSpace application. The
information provided is specific to 3D Drill View KM. For information general to the
DecisionSpace release, refer to the DecisionSpace 2003.10.0 Release Notes.
3D Drill View KM Installation

3D Drill View KM is installed during the DecisionSpace AssetView install process. Refer to the DecisionSpace
Installation Guide for information on installing DecisionSpace AssetView 2003.10.0. Specifically, refer to this
guide for the following information:
hardware requirements
software requirements
supported configurations
Draft

post-installation procedures (i.e. connecting to license server, setting environment variables, etc.)
troubleshooting the installation
This application is used in conjunction with another DecisionSpace program - AssetView.

AssetView and 3D Drill View KM (Knowledge Management) are three-dimensional (3D)
visualization PC software products by Landmark Graphics, on Windows 2000 operating
system, for drilling engineers, geophysicists and other disciplines involved with the
drilling domain. They provide advanced 3D rendering technology with the capability to
display and manipulate (rotate, zoom, translate) geoscience earth model data objects
together with drilling, engineering and operations data for integrated knowledge
management and real-time decision making.
These products dynamically display in 3D the real-time updates of well trajectories and
log curves, populated into OpenWorks, from Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD),
Logging-While-Drilling (LWD), and Surface Logging real-time drilling services. This
enables direct real-time comparison of plan versus actual information and allows
improved decision making regarding drilling operations.
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM are aligned with Landmark Graphics R2003
Synchronous Release with regard to OpenWorks and SeisWorks project access and the
workflow interaction with other product applications in the R2003 Release. DIMS
database and goCad data are other data sources accessible by this product. OpenWorks
for Windows, installed on the users PC, is a basic dependency for AssetView and 3D
Drill View KM.

3D Drill View KM
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM are configurable for use both in the office environment
and the drilling rig-site. They can be used in standalone off-network mode or client/server
on-network mode.
Note
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM display depth domain (only) data objects to enable
a common teamwork environment between geoscience and engineering for drilling
domain activities.
3D Drill View KM (Knowledge Management) is an add-on feature that allows you to view
and create knowledge attachments to mark significant downhole and drilling operations
events. The KM feature requires an additional license to the core AssetView product.
Contact your Landmark sales representative to find out more about this and other
products and services solutions.
3D Drill View KM 2003.10 uses Globetrotter FlexLM to handle licensing. The version of
FlexLM is the same as that released for 2003.0, which is 7.2e.
3D Drill View KM 2003.10 licensing for both new and existing customers will consist of
one feature:
DRILLVIEW_KM.
The license feature version for the new features will remain 2003.000.
Users also must have a license for OpenWorks 2003.0.0.0 in order to run the entire
feature set.
Additionally, to access EDM data, users must have a license for EDM.

Starting 3D Drill View KM

3D Drill View KM does not appear as a separate program on your PC. When installed, it
adds the various files/folders needed to run the KM feature. However, the only visible
difference if running 3D Drill View KM versus AssetView is that the KM sub-tabs (KM
DIMS and KM EDM) appear on the OpenWorks Wells tab of the Visualization
Component.
Well Sections and Well Planning require selection of an OpenWorks project
The Well Sections component and the Well Planning component require that a single
OpenWorks project be set. This project determines the wells that can be used by these
components.
If you use None Selected for the project in the Project Status Tool, a Select Project
dialog will appear when you launch Well Sections or Well Planning, allowing you to
select the desired project at that time. That selection will remain in effect until you log
out on your PC.
To change the project in the Project Status Tool, select Options > Change Project.
The Well Sections and Well Planning components will then automatically use this
project.
Running NetMeeting with AssetView

To run a conferencing application, such as NetMeeting, and AssetView at the same
time, you must launch the conferencing application first or AssetView will crash. Once
the conferencing application is running, you can launch AssetView and check on
Enable Conferencing in the AssetView Properties dialog (View > View Properties) so
that the 3D scene is visible in the conferencing application.
To start 3D Drill View KM:
1. Select Start > Programs > Landmark > DecisionSpace.
The application will initialize (this will take a few moments) and the DecisionSpace
Session Manager displays.

Therefore, if you want to use Well Sections or Well Planning in AssetView or 3D Drill
View KM, before launching AssetView or 3D Drill View KM, make sure that the Project
listed in the Project Status Tool (Programs > Landmark OpenWorks > Project
Administration > Project Status Tool) is either None Selected or is the project that
includes the desired wells.

2. Are you opening an existing or new session?

If you are opening an existing session, choose the session you want to open from
the Available Sessions table on the Existing Sessions tab and select OK. The
Select DIMS Startup Configuration dialog displays.
If you are opening a new session, select the New Session tab, set the parameters
for your new session, and select OK. The Select DIMS Startup Configuration dialog
displays. For more detail, refer to the online help for this dialog.
3. Highlight the configuration and select the OK button. AssetView opens and the
session loads.

icon on the toolbar, or select Applications > 3DViewer (loaded). The
AssetView Data Selector screen opens.

8. You will see the KM tabs in the lower row of tabs. Click the appropraite tab, KM DIMS
or KM EDM (based upon your data source), then select the Enable checkbox to
make the 3D Drill View KM controls available for use.

Printing from Acrobat Reader

These Release Notes are in pdf format. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader
installed, which is a free download available via the Adobe webpage.
It may be simpler for you to print these Release Notes than to use them online while you
are trying to install. When printing ranges of pages in Acrobat Reader, you must use the
status bar at the bottom of Acrobat Reader to get the most accurate indicator of which
page you are looking at. The page numbers at the bottom of an online page or other
page number references in the online document are not the page numbers that Acrobat
uses when you select a range of pages in its Print dialog. This situation is especially true
in online books, where the table of contents uses one page numbering scheme and the
body of the book uses another.
For example, to print a section from the Release Notes, follow a procedure similar to the
following:
2. Note the page number in the status bar.

3. Display the last page in the section.
4. Note the page number of the last page in the status bar.
5. Select File > Print to display the Print dialog.
6. Enter the page numbers that you noted in the From and To text boxes in the Print
dialog.
7. Click OK. Acrobat will then print the pages of the section.

Enhancements and New Features
KM can now process EDM data, in addition to DIMS data. Instead of one KM tab, there
are now two: KM DIMS and KM EDM. Which tab you access depends upon his data
source (DIMS or EDM). Both are visible, but only enabled if you also have the
corresponding application(s) installed.

Known Problems
3D Drill View KM 2003.10.0 contains the following known problems.
Knowledge Management
179973 KM EDM, KA Symbols - There are potential mapping problems with KA
symbols when multiple users share an EDM database but intstall
DecisionSpace to different drive letters.
Workaround: Copy the KA Symbols folder to a network share that all KM
users have access to. Then, in the KA Symbols dialog, map each symbol
using a UNC path instead of drive letters.
Example: Instead of using
D:\Landmark\DecisionSpace\KASymbols\512FISH.JPG, use a path like
\\volume\share\KASymbols\512FISH.JPG.
