Q. What are the types of licenses available with VMware NSX ?


A. VMware NSX is available as three offerings: Standard,
Advanced, and Enterprise. All three editions are available
per socket on a perpetual basis. The advanced edition is
available as a per-user offering (to align with virtual desktop
deployments). The Enterprise edition is also available on a
per-VM term basis. For more information on the Standard,
Advanced, and Enterprise offerings, please refer to the NSX
licensing page.
Q. When does the new licensing go into effect?
A. The new licenses and offerings are available as of May, 2016.
Q. Do we need to update the NSX software to get the
new licensing?

Q. What features are available in the various Standard,


Advanced, and Enterprise offerings?
A. Visit the NSX licensing page for more information on each
offering and to download the NSX data sheet
Q. Which offering do I need to enable micro-segmentation,
for IT automation, or for application continuity?
A. Each environment is unique, and requirements will differ.
Contact your VMware sales representative or VMware partner
to discuss your requirements and the best NSX offering to
match your organizations needs. Visit http://www.vmware.
com/go/nsx for more information on each offering and to
download the NSX datasheet.

A. NSX Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise license keys will be


accepted in NSX 6.2.2+.
Q. What happens to existing customers who purchased NSX
prior to new licensing model?
A. Customers with active support contracts who have purchased
NSX prior to the new licensing model goes into effect in
May, 2016 will be entitled to the same functionality in the
Enterprise offering.

VMware will continue to support current NSX software


versions per the VMware Lifecycle Policies. Refer to the
Lifecycle Product Matrix for more information on specific NSX
software releases.

Q. Can I upgrade from Standard to Advanced, and from


Advanced to Enterprise?
A. Yes. Upgrade licenses are available. Contact your VMware
sales representative or VMware partner for more information.
Q. What happens to the existing NSX license scheme?
A. The existing NSX license scheme reaches End of Availability
on May 3, 2016.
