Practical 5
Titration of acid and base
Objectives:

Perform to titration for the reaction of acid and base

Material:
1. Burette
2. Conical flask
3. Pipette
4. Retort stand and clamp
5. Pipette filler
6. White tile
7. Funnel
8. 0.1 mol dm-3 of hydrochloric acid
9. 0.1 mol dm-3 of sodium hydroxide
10. Indicator
11. Distilled water
Procedure:
1. The burette is rinsed with distilled water and then with the solution (Solution A) that is to
be added into it.
2. The burette is clamped onto the retort stand.
3. The conical flask is ensured to be dried and clean.
4. The pipette is rinsed with distilled water, and then the solution (Solution B) is pipetted
into it.
5. The solution in pipette is transferred into the conical flask.
6. Few drops of indicator are added into the conical flask.
7. The apparatus is set up according to the diagram.
8. The initial volume in the burette is recorded.
9. The solution in the burette is added slowly into the conical flask.
10. The solution in the burette is added until the solution in the flask changes colour.
11. The final volume in the burette is recorded.
12. Step 3 to 11 is repeated to obtain at least two accurate titre.
