I live in the city for a reason. Stop trying to take my rights away to give to another

7/3/2016 10:55 AM

What about renters? Can we grow a garden and have chickens if we rent a home?

7/2/2016 11:09 AM

I understand the gains but not worth the potential disturbance the animals are known for by a neighbor, near a busy

7/2/2016 10:10 AM

road, a business. People are already irresponsible with pets and if you add this to the pot who knows. Livestock farms
belong on the outskirts of town as they currently are.

6

the use of "owner" applies to the owner of the crop or animal right? As in, a renter MAY grow or keep crops & animals
but a landlord may not. I certainly hope that is the intent because to further impose hardships on renters would be

7/1/2016 10:24 AM

cruel.
7

This would lower property values for anyone wanting to sell in a smelly neighborhood.

6/30/2016 7:24 PM

The city does not enforce current codes. There is no way they can enforce any ordinance they would set up regarding
urban farm animals.

6/30/2016 7:04 PM

If you want farm animals move to the farm. Battle Creek doesn't enforce their ordinances now, they will never be able

6/30/2016 8:39 AM

to enforce whatever they put in place.....all I know if farm animals are able to be in residential neighborhoods, I will
stop all my involvement with the city and pray my house sells soon.
10

I support urban farm animals of almost any kind and really think it would improve the culture and community of Battle
Creek. It fact, I currently have 4 egg layers (hens) in my back yard in our Lakeview neighborhood. I own approximately

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

0.4 acres and have not received any complaints or concerns from my neighbors. We moved to battle creek from
Kalamazoo (where our chickens were legal under zoning) this winter and very much support the inclusion of animals
writhing the battle creek city and township zoning districts.
11

Most people do not want to allow their neighbors to have these animals due to their ignorance and fear of lack of
restrictions. Let's be real. Bees stay in their hives. Rabbits are quiet and will not smell bad if properly kept and kept at

6/29/2016 4:12 PM

a low number, etc.

12

We already have two zones within the city that allow farm animals. Not needed in inter-city.

6/29/2016 3:06 PM

13

in back yards - no roosters - and in cages only

6/29/2016 2:55 PM

14

Roosters can be loud as well as guineas, maybe a limit of one or two roosters. Guineas should not be allowed, they

6/29/2016 12:37 PM

are loud and disruptive. Hens and pot bellied pigs should be allowed. Hens provide fresh eggs as well as meat.
15

If there were enough regulations in regards to the care of the animals, as well as restrictions on the number, and size
of the lot, I think there should be few restrictions on agriculture for your own personal use. Animal welfare standards

6/29/2016 9:45 AM

must be in place as well as regulations for appropriate out-building facilities for the animals.
16

Many residents are hard pressed to adequately take care of domestic animals (cats/dogs) and animal control officers

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

are unable to keep up with concerns/problems generated from these animals. Additionally the waste created by farm
animals can cause unpleasant odors which, given the close proximity of homes within the city limits, would unduly
penalize other residential prroperties within close proximity.
17

I don't feel that most Battle Creek residents would use this as intended and it would lead to more problems.

6/28/2016 9:20 PM

18

As a free Society we should be able to take care of ourselves what happens if our government for some reason would

6/28/2016 7:31 PM

cease to exist it is a human right to have and take care of things that take care of you the most importantly if you have
these animals and the crops keep in mind that as an animal something else has died to feed you so be grateful for it
and take care of it.
19

The urban gardening only by homeowners seems rather antiquated as well

6/28/2016 7:16 PM

20

The lot size shouldn't be so restrictive as to prohibit these activities.

6/28/2016 3:23 PM

21

If you wish to own such animals move to an area that already allows for such things. I wanted to be able to have
animals on my property therefore I moved out of the city. It is not a place for such animals. The city can not even

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

enforce what's already there let alone add more.

22

Well taken care of animals.

6/28/2016 12:06 PM

23

Urban Agriculture doesn't belong in residential setting! The animals cannot be properly cared for and becomes
problematic to the neighborhood!

6/28/2016 10:38 AM

24

Sheep and pigs go to far but bees, rabbits and chickens are a no brainer.

6/28/2016 10:00 AM

25

Totally dependent on size of property and number of animals.

Urban Agriculture in the City of Battle Creek

26

Animal control currently can't keep up with the complaints they have with neglected/abused domestic animals, animal
nuisances (barking dogs), etc. Allow in farm animals is only going to increase their load tenfold. If people can't

6/27/2016 11:59 PM

properly care for a domesticated animal, how many are going to properly take care of farm animals that require a lot
more food and daily maintenence living conditions? Plus, who is going to "take" these animals, when abuse and
neglect is found? Is the city going to provide a large sanctuary where these animals can go when they are dumped by
their humans? The human that HAD TO HAVE ONE because they are so cute when small, but then they get bigger
and make big messes and smell and aren't so "cute" anymore that people are just going to neglect or dump
somewhere (happens every day to dogs and cats). If allowed...this will ultimately be a nightmare that can't be taken
away (if you stop allowing it because it is proving to be a horrible mistake, where are all these poor animals going to
be relocated too? If people are truly interested in having animals or harvesting large amounts of produce, then they
need to move to the country. Or support the local farmer markets that are around town or those true farmers south of
town that make their living harvesting fresh produce and meat.
27

again if they are pets it is one thing but I would not like to live next to a bunch of pigs, maybe one or two as pets

6/27/2016 11:31 PM

28

Farm animals suffer enough. How can we be sure to properly enforce livestock care when we can't even properly

6/27/2016 10:59 PM

protect cats and dogs?

29

Growing up in a rural area, I am concerned with the idea of people becoming farmers overnight or through a How To

6/27/2016 10:54 PM

web page. There is a lot of responsibility to animal care and unless there was a regular inspection process in place
you'd be potentially allowing citizens to bypass agricultural laws and protections.
30

Absolutely opposed to inviting more domestic animals into city limits. There is chronic abandonment, neglect and stray

6/27/2016 10:48 PM

issues already with cats and dogs, in addition to lacking enforcement.

31

There are too many neglectful dog and cat owners all really. Farm animal involve so much more care and investment.

6/27/2016 10:03 PM

Could see this getting way out of control with overpopuation , neglect and abandonment .
32

We have enough trouble with dogs and cats in the city. I honestly don't think an additional burden of enforcing new

6/27/2016 9:25 PM

codes/laws needs to be placed on the City. You're stretched to thin already. Why take on more, when there's already
trouble taking care of what you have?
33

If there is sufficient space for animals and the conditions in which they live are good, I don't see why having animals

6/27/2016 9:12 PM

on ones urban property would be an issue.

34

Regarding agri animals: no roosters, if found to have one, must be removed. pens should have to be a distance(set-

6/20/2016 9:24 AM

back) from the property lines. If we is approved, owners MUST be responsible for disposing of animal waste at their
own expense, and if not done will be give a warning and if not in compliance will forfeit their ability to have agri animals
35

One or two tiny micro mini pigs (a very specific small breed the size of a very small dog) should be allowed strictly as
pets but not for eating.

6/17/2016 10:40 AM

36

Too many neighbor problems even w/ordinances. Control of odor disease...

6/17/2016 10:19 AM

37

Animals are not food.

6/16/2016 8:17 PM

38

Should not be allowed in residential neighborhoods. South areas zoned farm should be allowed.

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

39

I do not support any FARM animals within the city limits!. If the city is considering this the ordinance change needs to
go on the November ballot.

6/15/2016 2:44 PM

40

As for lot size I would feel any property 2acres or more could adequately support any to all of the above animals.
Most important would be that each animal has enough square footage and is taken care of. Inside city limits it would

6/15/2016 1:05 PM

be challenging to find a property large enough but outside many people are on over an acre but under 5 and left in the
gray area. If nobody complains they are able to continue but if one complaint came in they would be forced to give
away their food and depend upon the government and taxes for food stamps/pantry to feed their families.
41

No roosters

6/15/2016 12:25 PM

42

If people are willing to take responsibilities for their own properties they should be allowed to use them accordingly.

6/15/2016 11:05 AM

The city wouldn't really lose anything from allowing the citizens to use their parcels for animals.
43

Size of Lot would need to be very large on most farm animals. Due to disease, sound, smell and lastly allergies of

6/15/2016 10:30 AM

peoples neighbors. This issue is not only a persons right to have animals but neighbors rights to be able to live in their
own yard and the ability to sell their house without being impacted.
44

We currently see to many stray animals due to irresponsible pet owners..cruelty & owners that don't have finances to

6/15/2016 9:37 AM

care for pets properly.

45

I would like to at least have chickens. I have a nice size lot.

6/15/2016 9:35 AM

46

The stench and filth would be overwhelming. The city has a difficult time with residents that don't maintain their yards

6/15/2016 7:58 AM

as it is, do you really want one more headache? I live on a 40 acre farm with one rooster, 2 goats and 2 horses and
the goat pen urine smell is awful and the rooster poops everywhere in my barn.
47

The smaller animals would pose very little nuisance to others.

6/15/2016 12:46 AM

48

To make our own food, our own way is part of what makes us human. To be a barrier to that either through legislation

6/14/2016 10:49 PM

or otherwise is to be an obstacle to humanity.

49

No roosters due to noise.

6/14/2016 10:38 PM

50

Farm to home concept! Keeping local!

6/14/2016 10:11 PM

51

It's a god Giving right to have small animals that can provide food for the table. I think its a great idea and so do many
people i know!!

6/14/2016 9:54 PM

52

I have wanted backyard chickens for a while now. People need to be self-sufficient and economical as much as
possible. It wasn't that long ago people were encouraged to have a chicken for each person in the family, per

6/14/2016 9:33 PM

governmental request.
53

Love the idea.

6/14/2016 8:55 PM

54

I need to make some income to pay my house taxes in the city.

6/14/2016 8:54 PM

55

Small confined, egg laying chickens only. Pot belly pigs as pets are fine. Ducks and turkeys for seasonal raising

6/14/2016 7:16 PM

should also be allowed.

56

No to roosters, yes to egg laying hens.

6/14/2016 6:07 PM

57

No roosters neutered male goats and sheep and females

6/14/2016 5:53 PM

58

I fully support urban agriculture and believe only limited and reasonable limits need to be in place. For thousands of
years, humans have included livestock in their living areas. Not having our food sources close is neither wise nor

6/14/2016 3:45 PM

normal.
59

Have you seen the city parks? They are overrun with illegally abandoned domestic ducks and geese, and now we find

6/14/2016 2:20 PM

roosters running through neighborhoods. I can only imagine what will happen with goats that eat people's flowers,
trees and everything in sight, when they too are no longer wanted. Our animal shelter is totally unfit for responding to
these calls.
60

Would like to see horses, llamas and donkeys added to the list.

6/14/2016 1:41 PM

61

we don't need any of these animals running loose in the city. Allowing something like this would cause many issues of

6/14/2016 11:15 AM

policing violators.
62

I would love to be able to have a few chickens , ducks and turkey. But there needs to be regulations, there is always

6/14/2016 10:30 AM

someone that will take to far.

63

Battle Creek does not enforce animal welfare laws now. There are over 90 dogs chained outside all the time in the
city. Add more animals to suffer?

6/14/2016 10:28 AM

64

There should be no raising of farm animals in any urban areas. If just one incident takes place with an animal and
person/child, both the individual owner and the city shall be held liable for such incident. In addition, any disruptive

6/14/2016 10:00 AM

noise factors would predominantly not be appreciated in urban neighborhoods.

5

We would truly need to make sure the animals were safe and that the animals and grounds were properly taken care

6/29/2016 8:18 PM

of
6

As long as owners are responsible and respectful of neighbors, I am find with urban farm animals even if the property

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

is vacant.
7

You would need buildings on the vacant lots to house the animals and vacant residential zoned lots to not allow

6/29/2016 3:06 PM

accessory buildings without a residential structure on them.

8

not on vacant lot

6/29/2016 2:55 PM

Animal welfare must come first. There would need to be regulations on the proper facilities to care for the animals.

6/29/2016 9:45 AM

Then there should not be limits. There are plenty of vacant, ugly lots that could be put to better use by responsible
people.
10

When considering vacant properties, the prospect for vandalism and malicious destruction of prperty is high. It is not

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

fair for animals to be subjected to potential harm from humans.

11

Again, with restrictions not being so restrictive as to prohibit activities.

6/28/2016 3:23 PM

12

No because the risk of random vandalism, thievery, and abuse.

6/28/2016 2:02 PM

13

No supervision on lots in the city is just asking for trouble. You really don't see the big picture in all of this do you?

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

14

If well taken care of.

6/28/2016 12:06 PM

15

Urban Agriculture doesn't belong in residential setting! The animals cannot be properly cared for and becomes

6/28/2016 10:38 AM

problematic to the neighborhood!

16

Bigger nightmare... no continious supervision from the homeowner. Out of sight, out of mind.

6/27/2016 11:59 PM

17

and if the animals are attened to on a daily basis not left alone for long and have proper care and shelter

6/27/2016 11:31 PM

18

The city is trying to way over reach their boundaries and power.

6/27/2016 11:20 PM

19

Again, the same problems arise in terms of agricultural laws. However this poses another issue of unattended animals

6/27/2016 10:54 PM

in an easily accessible location to the general public. I would fear the potential of theft, abuse, or death of a farm
animal that can't be watched 24/7.
20

Same as above. I believe the City should concentrate on enforcing the laws/codes that are already on the books.

6/27/2016 9:25 PM

21

Exception would be that vacant land is contiguous to the owner occupied residence.

6/20/2016 9:24 AM

22

animals are not food.

6/16/2016 8:17 PM

23

That would be commercial farming and again should not be allowed in residential neighborhoods.

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

24

See above comments.

6/15/2016 2:44 PM

25

No roosters

6/15/2016 12:25 PM

26

When a person owns their property they choose to tear up their yards with pigs and other farm animals. If citizens are

6/15/2016 11:05 AM

tearing up vacant land by having animals on property, in my mind they are less likely to be used for housing or be
marketable.
27

To easy to become irresponsible & allow animals to get out. Plus neighbors would end up putting up w noise &

6/15/2016 9:37 AM

manure odor. What would be acceptable noise & odor control?

28

No way! Even if there isn't a home on the lot, there are still neighbors that will have to deal with noise, filth and smell!

6/15/2016 7:58 AM

29

Cows+yes

6/15/2016 6:47 AM

30

Again, I believe the smaller animals would cause little issue. They would allow people to supply themselves with fresh

6/15/2016 12:46 AM

eggs, honey, etc that are much healthier

31

I think if the property is not lived on that the owners of the animals must be required to visit the property at minimum

6/14/2016 10:38 PM

twice a day. Also no roosters due to noise.

32

As long as they are properly cared for.

6/14/2016 9:33 PM

33

I need to make some income to pay my house taxes in the city.

6/14/2016 8:54 PM

34

I would be affraid of neglect of the animals being more likely in vacant properties. It would be harder to control the

6/14/2016 6:07 PM

animals in this case also, which would increase costs of animal control officers.
35

No roosters only neutered male sheep and goats and females it must be posted who the owner is with contact
information for emergency

Livestock on vacant property would promote soil fertility and allow for these areas to become productive and add to the

37

Animals need constant watching over and tending to. They should never be left alone on a daily basis because of

6/14/2016 3:22 PM

predators.
38

Who is doing the welfare checks on these human-reliant domestic animals?

Urban Agriculture in the City of Battle Creek

Date

I'm trying *not* to grow a maple or slippery elm tree farm, but it's hard work! I am currently growing everything on this

7/3/2016 4:08 AM

list (except grains), on my lot. I would grow grains if I had enough room.
2

As long as proper precautions are in place. Neighborhood home owners shouldn't have to worry about wild animal

7/2/2016 10:10 AM

population and property destruction that can/ will cause.

3

Pesticides & herbicides would need to be safe formulas, regulated, and notification of neighbors in advance with a

7/1/2016 10:24 AM

small date range dependent on weather.

4

Urban gardens would be a great addition to our culture and community! Again, since moving to town this winter we

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

have planted fruit trees, berries, herbs and vegetables in our yard and think this greatly improves our quality of life
compared to the lawn we replaced.
5

I believe it would benefit both the grower to earn extra monies and also those who need food, that might not be able to

6/29/2016 3:06 PM

pay high grocery prices.

6

back yards

6/29/2016 2:55 PM

People renting a property should be given the same rights as the land owner of the land owns consents

6/29/2016 1:23 AM

Continue current practices to allow urban gardens on owner occupied properties.

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

I would love to see any new planting of trees or planters on city property to be fruit trees, fruits and vegetables. And

6/28/2016 9:12 PM

allow citizens to harvest. This would help feed the hungry and homeless in the city.
10

These things are already happening without an ordinance. I have four fruit trees, my neighbor had 6, still grows

6/28/2016 3:23 PM

berries...
11

Grow your hearts out, nobody will care if your tomato plants are dying from lack of water! But you had better make it

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

against the law to kill, trap and remove any animal for being lured in to such areas! It will be just like baiting them in!!
12

YES

6/28/2016 12:06 PM

13

Whatever people want to garden in their "PRIVATE" (away from the view of others) BACKYARD, not side or front

6/27/2016 11:59 PM

yard, is fine. It's a problem when it isn't properly managed or harvested then you get an influx of unwanted
animals/rodents and unsitely yards.
14

Edible plants are a better use of water than lawn grass.

6/27/2016 10:59 PM

15

I would welcome more community gardens as long as their was a set of general guidelines in place that all would have

6/27/2016 10:54 PM

to follow. These guidelines would cover any environmental concerns that may arise due to usage of fertilizer, water
usage, ect...
16

It doesn't seem like these ideas would generate the complaints that live animals would. I don't believe the City would
have to invest much time, energy, or money to oversee these activities.

6/27/2016 9:25 PM

17

As stated above, owner is solely responsible for garden waste and weed control. If not taken care of they should have
one warning and if not taken care of they will forfeit the ability to the agri.

6/20/2016 9:24 AM

18

Love the tree farm idea.!!

6/17/2016 10:19 AM

19

Awesome!

6/16/2016 8:17 PM

20

Home gardens should be allowed as they are now. But a tree farm is not a home garden. Nothing commercial in
residential neighborhoods.

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

21

Gardens are simple.

6/15/2016 11:05 AM

22

Just so long as it isn't in the front yard being an eye sore I have no issues with gardens. Neighbors need to be able to
sell a home and get full market value for them. Having non-traditional well kept front yards can greatly impact resale

6/15/2016 10:30 AM

ability and value.

23

Marijuana

6/15/2016 6:47 AM

24

Fresh produce is so much healthier for people, there should be no reason people cannot maintain these urban garden
areas to support a healthier lifestyle.

6/14/2016 10:11 PM

26

I need to make some income to pay my house taxes in the city.

6/14/2016 8:54 PM

27

All food should be able to be grown by residents if they wish to do so.

6/14/2016 7:16 PM

28

All of these things would benefit urban areas more than it would harm.

29

I don't think any laws need to be in place for the growing of plants. The use of pesticides should be restricted. Battle
Creek has an opportunity to style itself as an organic city.

6/14/2016 3:45 PM

30

this is a great use of space, instead of everyone having big lawns, they should have gardens and grow food. Lawns
are just a waste

The only annoying plants on your list are raspberries. Brambles can get out of control, if not maintained. But if

7/3/2016 4:08 AM

somebody has room for them--what a great addition to a neighborhood!

2

Strict ordinances in regards to overgrowth and wild animal property destruction. Change in population in the

7/2/2016 10:10 AM

neighborhood.
3

Pesticides & herbicides would need to be safe formulas, regulated, and notification of neighbors in advance with a
small date range dependent on weather.

7/1/2016 10:24 AM

Presumably these urban gardens would be adjacent to current home owners. The current property owners should be
protected.

6/30/2016 7:04 PM

I believe we should use all available land in a city to help support the residents needs.

6/29/2016 7:51 PM

Again, as long as the owners are responsible and respectful, I happily support urban agriculture in vacant properties.

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

If someone takes the time to put in a garden they will take care of it as it is a lot of work; and would also put good use

6/29/2016 3:06 PM

to the vacant lot.

8

I do not see a downside to letting people put vacant land to good use to better our community and their health.

6/29/2016 11:24 AM

Urban gardens need to be tended. On the northside of town there are some urban gardens. However, there have

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

been times when the gardens were not well tended and created an eyesore within the neighborhood.
10

We need to get beyond fertilized lawns as the only acceptable use of land in residential settings.

6/28/2016 3:23 PM

11

As long as this is not already a habitat place for city creatures, and the comment above is followed in protecting any

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

living things drawn to such areas! I will careless when, some of our fine up and coming citizens decide they want to
trample it!
12

Growing produce in an urban setting is not problematic to neighbors

6/28/2016 10:38 AM

13

Few people within the city limits take care of the property they have now. It will grow out of control and they will give
up on it, leaving more of an eyesore for the neighborhood. Check on the corner lot of Kirkpatrick and Jean Rd

6/27/2016 11:59 PM

(neighborhood off Golden/Riverside area). Tacky and unkempt. It's an eyesore.

14

I would welcome more community gardens as long as their was a set of general guidelines in place that all would have
to follow. These guidelines would cover any environmental concerns that may arise due to usage of fertilizer, water

6/27/2016 10:54 PM

usage, ect...
15

Same as above. It wouldn't take much from the City to oversee this.

6/27/2016 9:25 PM

16

condition would be same as above regarding maintaining waste and weeds. and vacant land must be contiguous to
owner occupied property.

6/20/2016 9:24 AM

17

What a great way to use vacant land!

6/18/2016 9:36 PM

18

If you want a garden of your own. Put it on your own land. Or rent space at Urbandale garden. Or Sprout farm on
Parkway. But vacant land that you do not own. No. As no one is responsible for it and can turn into eyesore.

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

19

Gardens are something that can not only feed a family but also provide a small source of income. Unlike animals,

6/15/2016 11:05 AM

gardens won't necessarily hurt a properties value or it's marketability.

20

Here again, it needs to be up kept so not to impact neighbors ability to sell homes.

The city needs to be cognizant of the impact of pesticide use in normal agricultural settings, and current residents

just hope the city can monitor and enforce their new ordinances as they don't do well now.

6/30/2016 8:39 AM

I have no concerns with larger scale farming in my neighborhood.

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

As long as there is enough space and they are far enough away from the home of the neighbor.

6/29/2016 4:12 PM

If someone takes the time to work the ground to put in a garden they will also take care of it and can be a benefit to
everyone. There is no minimum size limitation to be able to have a garden.

6/29/2016 2:55 PM

Would love to be able to buy or trade fruits and veggies with neighbors.

6/29/2016 11:24 AM

10

There are not many areas within the Battle Creek city limits where an urban "Farm" would be a viable option. If this

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

were to be permitted within the city limits it would need to be regulated to ensure it was done in a manner that did not
adversely affect neighbors.
11

Outside of your own garden or a small community garden, we do not need to have such spaces in the city. Didn't you
just spend a bunch of money down town to have that fancy new Farmers Market?

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

12

Growing produce in an urban setting is not problematic to neighbors

6/28/2016 10:38 AM

13

There are numerous studies that show urban farms increase the property value of the homes within a two block radius
of the farm.

6/25/2016 5:21 AM

14

applications for this must be presented to assessing and code compliance. There must be "hours of business"

6/20/2016 9:24 AM

established so residential areas will continue to have peace and quit in the evenings related to equipment and harvest
times. Also to make sure that the type of agriculture does not effect the safety of the community. (ie: growing corn or
tall produces/trees that obstruct an intersect.) Perhaps setback lines should be established.
15

Grains and nuts on a large may be a concern for ppl with allergies(?)

6/17/2016 10:19 AM

16

No commercial venture in residential area. Next will be someone wanting to just be mechanic in his garage, or

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

upholstering in his garage. The list is endless. It is residential not commercial.

17

Same reasoning as above Urban Gardens.

6/15/2016 11:05 AM

18

This question is worded poorly. Only part of the defined words above were used leaving ambiguity on the full intent of

6/15/2016 10:30 AM

this question. Technically an urban farm as defined above could have animals or plants yet the answers only list
plants. If the intent is purely plants that needs to be stated in the question.

6/30/2016 8:39 AM

I have no concerns with larger scale farming in my neighborhood even if the property is vacant.

6/29/2016 6:48 PM

Food and produce benefit everyone and puts good use to the land. In Michigan it would only be a few months of

6/29/2016 3:06 PM

growing season and not harm anyone.

6

The prospect for damage to crops that are not attended by a homeowner/24/7 on-site manager is not as concerning to

6/28/2016 11:33 PM

me as the prospect of danger to animals being left alone. I would be open to the conversation.
7

We already have places for people to do these very things! You have to really consider the overall effect these things
will have on your city, how long before it is not a city?

6/28/2016 1:13 PM

Growing produce in an urban setting is not problematic to neighbors

6/28/2016 10:38 AM

To have food growing in residential areas is to enrich the people. By promoting cooperation and cohesion, feeding

6/27/2016 9:44 PM

families, and educating the youth- urban farming builds a solid foundation for the community to thrive on.
10

11

No commercial venture in residential neighborhoods.

6/15/2016 2:55 PM

As I stated before this issue needs to go on a ballot for the voters to decide. Not by the city commission after a Special
interest group has been pushing this, up to and including getting one of their board members on the Planning

Commission. One of my neighbors has been cited repeatedly for having chickens on their property and now has a pig
as well.

I do not believe that the City has the funding to handle the proper oversight of this. Are the police going to get
dispatched when the neighbor's fight over a crowing rooster? Who will handle the impending smell complaints? Does
Code Compliance really have the time or resources to ensure that the animals are properly housed and contained?

6/27/2016 9:34 PM

What happens when a farm animal escapes? Who will be charged with catching it? What about neglect? Our animal
shelters are overwhelmed with cats and dogs. Who will pay for the care of a neglected sheep? If not shorn properly,
they're a mess! This is a can of worms, that I believe, has the potential to cost the City much more than money. I see it
turning into a nightmarish debacle. Leave the farm animals on the farm, where they belong, please.

I would like to see an aesthetic community standard slightly higher than regular production farms so I would expect it

4

Would like to see it used for personal use only.

6/29/2016 5:15 PM

Think it should depend on the size of the property and amount of work to be done.

6/29/2016 11:55 AM

The more jobs the better

6/29/2016 5:04 AM

The number of employees would depend on how many were necessary. It is important to remember that you are now
looking at allowing a business to be placed in a residential area. The city should take a close look at the effect this will

6/28/2016 11:38 PM

have on other residents in the area. Among other questions, how much additional traffic will it generate?
8

As long as you work you eat.

I don't feel I know enough about the issue to vote on this.

6/28/2016 12:38 PM

10

It would depend on the size of the property

6/28/2016 9:01 AM

11

We don't need extra "traffic" in the city neighborhoods. There's enough cars parked in the streets as it is.

6/28/2016 12:01 AM

12

This should depend on lot size

6/27/2016 10:26 PM

Paid staff?!??? If the City has enough money to consider hiring people to oversee this, please spend it on our failing
infrastructure! My gosh!!!! You've got to be kidding me!

6/27/2016 9:34 PM

14

Each farm would need to be evaluated but if needed I do not see why not support interns or paid employees.

6/27/2016 8:21 PM

I don't know.

6/16/2016 8:19 PM
