Standard #7: Planning for Instruction

The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon
knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of
learners and the community context.
Name of Artifact: Thematic Unit
Date: June 28, 2016
Course: EDUC 255: Multicultural Teaching
Brief Description:
In this assignment, I created a thematic unit for fifth grade children; based on the book HATCHET. The themes
are hatchets and islands. I have created activities in each subject area below. I have included the objectives for
each subject area and the Indiana Academic Standards that each activity will meet for the specific grade level.
Rationale:
To document my understanding of standard #7, Planning for Instruction; I have included my Thematic Unit.
This shows my ability to plan activities and work for students to do after reading a book. They will demonstrate
their abilities in all of the subjects according to the fifth grade standard of learning.
