Has anyone heard of an ecological footprint? It is a measure of the impact humans have
on the environment.

Lets work out ecological footprint as a class (interactive game)

Discuss results of quiz. How many earths do we need if we keep acting like this? Can we
just find another earth? No, so maybe we need to make some changes!

Stage 2 Body

of lesson

Watch youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKWQuU0sHPw . Discuss the

Stage 3: Conclusion

meaning of the video. What did you think this video meant? What was it talking about?
The actions of humans have been impacting the earth some negative but some also
positive. What were some of the things that were bad for the environment and what
were some of the things that were better? These big changes such as wind power, water
power, solar power are great and have a huge impact but we can also do small things
ourselves, that when lots of people do them they make a difference.
Students may be feeling gloomy about the situation so it is important to reassure them
that we can turn things around and our actions can have a positive impact.

5 mins

Students are to create an A4 poster that encourages the community to change their
actions to work towards a more sustainable future.

Discuss what changes we can make at home that would have a positive impact on the
environment. Use less water, get solar panels, recycle as much as we can, compost,
have a native garden etc.

Stage 5: Closure

Show some examples of posters to help them gather their ideas.

Students may use textas and pencils on an A4 piece of paper.

Gallery Walk: students walk around the room and look at one anothers posters.
Display the posters on the wall
