1. Develop guide questions that will bring out issues.
a. Why are these children prone to abuses child labor, maltreatment,
etc.?
b. What were the cases of child labor shown in the film?
c. How can we solve or at least alleviate the problem?
d. What do you think does the film say about our society?
e. How are the opportunities provided for you to study different from
theirs?
2. What is the very striking moment in the film?
One of the most striking parts is when they were asked if what they would
want for themselves one of the boys said kahit ano basta hindi dito sa may
semento, kahit magwalis lang ako sa barko o kaya mag deliver ng asukal
Their simple mindedness attacked me to my very core. I was immersed
before with street children as part of my priestly formation, and children
would share dreams that are so simple for me yet very significant for them.
3. Make a prognosis about the boys?
I dont want to be negative with my prognosis however, if they will continue
with this way of life, maybe some would die early as to what happened to one
of the boys. Maybe some would continue with this way of living. However,
maybe they were able to go out of that prison and were able to look for a
better place to work - tagawalis sa barko.
4. Specific moral issue.
The moral issue that shines out in the dokyu is the exploitation of children for
labor. We know that their family needs resources for their survival. However,
the responsibility of making the family survives should not weight heavily on
the shoulders of the children.
5. Why Minsan lang sila bata?
My recollection of my childhood was, play, play, play. While watching the
dokyu, I asked myself did I experience working during my childhood years?
I think I did not. My mom let me play because she knew that a child should
play and through playing a child can learn. I cant imagine my childhood in a
construction site or carrying bags of vegetables or cement. We only pass
childhood once although some chose not to leave its realm and we have
to enjoy life for when we become older, responsibilities come and hunt us.
They can be innocent once that is why it is a mortal sin to do something evil
to these little ones.
