Introduction
I have chosen Marigold HL Low Fat Milk as the product to finish my research. Low fat milk is
actually normal milk but with the normal fat percentage greatly reduced (Dairy Council of
California 2016). There are many brands of low fat milk in Malaysia, for instance, Goodday,
Farmhouse and many more. The reason for me to choose Marigold HL as the product to research
as it is very famous among Malaysian. Therefore, I have obtained all of the prices of milks from
Aeon Wangsa Maju, and I have compared the prices of all products that I choose based on 1 liter
packaging of low fat milk.
As there is a lot of competitors of milk in Malaysia consumer market, Marigold HL low
fat milk has many competitors in the same market. There are some of the direct competitors of
Marigold HL low fat milk, namely Pura, Farmhouse, Goodday, Farm Fresh as well as
Summerfield low fat milk. As all of the product that I choose are direct competitors to Marigold
HL low fat milk, all of them have the similar prices and features.
Price
Selling price of all types of low fat milk are tabulated in Appendix 1.0. According to the table,
Marigold HL low fat milk is RM 7.50 and it was cheaper than most of its competitors, which are
Goodday (RM 7.80), Farmhouse (RM 9.06) and Pura (RM9.42). As Marigold HL low fat milk is
slightly expensive than 2 of its competitors, Farm Fresh (RM 7.40) and Summerfield (RM6.65),
it can be say that the selling price of Marigold HL low fat milk is affordable to consumers.
Comparison of quality
I have used nutrition facts to compare the quality of all types of low fat milks. I have compared
all the low fat milks by grading them numerically by comparing their energy, protein,
carbohydrates, fat and calcium for 100ml intake. According to the comparison of quality shown
in Appendix 2.0, we can conclude that Marigold HL low fat milk is the best low fat milk in the
consumer market.
In fact, there are some reason why I say so. Firstly, energy provided by serving 100ml of
Marigold HL low fat milk is 50 kcal. It can be say that the energy provided is very high
compared to most of the competitors, except Farm House low fat milk (51 kcal).

Besides, Marigold HL low fat milk also provides the most protein, which is 5 gram in
100ml of serving. As we all know, protein helps to build our body muscle. As all of the brand
only provide 3.1 gram to 3.7 gram of protein in 100ml serving, the content of protein of
Marigold HL milk is consider as very high among the 6 competitors.
In addition, Marigold HL low fat milk contains only 1 gram of fat in 100ml serving, as
same as Pura and Farm Fresh milk. It shows that Marigold low fat milk is healthier than
Goodday, Summerfield and Farmhouse low fat milk which contain 1.5 gram of fat per 100ml
serving.
Marigold HL low fat milk also contains 150 milligram (mg) of calcium in 100ml serving.
The content of calcium should be high in milk in order to benefit on consumers bone. The
Marigold HL low fat milk contains the second highest content of calcium compare to the
Goodday low fat milk (95mg), Pura low fat milk (120mg), as well as Farm Fresh and
Summerfield (114mg).
The function of carbohydrate is to recover consumers energy. As a result, the higher the
content of carbohydrate in milk is consider as better. Marigold HL milk scored the second
highest in the comparison with 5.5 gram (g) of carbohydrate. It shows that the carbohydrate in
Marigold HL low fat milk is higher than Goodday (5.1g), Pura (4.4g), Farm Fresh and
Summerfield (4.3g).
Award and Recognition
Appendix 2.0 shows all of the award and recognition of 6 brands of low fat milk. According to
the table, all of the brands are acquired HALAL certificate. Halal certificate will be given when
the food has been subjected to approve certification systems which guarantee to consumers that
nothing in the food has any forbidden components, by a certifying body (Halal CHOICE 2016).
As all of the products that I choose is selling in Malaysia, therefore all of the goods must obtain a
HALAL certificate to convince Muslim consumers.
HACCP is a food safety system to ensure the manufacture of safe food products by
prevent, reduce or eliminate potential biological, chemical and physical food safety hazards

(HACCP 2016). In fact, Farm Fresh is the only one low fat milk which obtained recognition
from HACCP.
On the other hand, Marigold HL is the only brand which get more than 1 recognition.
Marigold HL has received Veterinary Inspected Malaysia and Digest Trusted Brand Award
(MARIGOLD HL 2016) and it shows that the quality of Marigold HL low fat milk is better than
its competitors.

Price

Quality
The position mapping clearly shows that Marigold HL low fat milk have the best quality among
the 6 selected low fat milks yet the price of it is quite low. In conclusion, Marigold HL low fat
milk is the best low fat milk among the competitors.
