Students pass around
a file and show a
picture of a toy that
they pick.

Teaching and Learning Activities

Students sit in a circle and teacher plays a song.
Once the song stops, the student who gets the file
has to open it and pick any picture of a toy.

Teaching Materials/ Notes

Song
A file containing five
different types of toys.

The student goes in front of the class and writes

the name of the toy on the board.

Teacher can bring students

to the viewing room or
music room to conduct this
lesson.

Teacher shows the picture and asks students to

say the word together.
*This process continues until they finish picking all
the five pictures of toys.
Once finished teacher again elicit students
memory of the five vocabulary of the toys, by
asking them to match the words with their
pictures.

Presentation
Picture showing
Teacher and students
talk about the pictures
(toys)

Teacher introduces the word toys. Teacher can

ask about the students favourite toys, who they
play with and when do they play.

Teacher can get some

students to volunteer to talk
about their toys.

Teacher writes some of the key words on the

board such as play with brothers, at home, after
school, etc

Pictures

Teacher can then ask how many students like

certain toys. This is important to do to give
students a brief idea for the next activity
Practice
1 Wawasans favourite
toys bar chart
Students categorize
their favourite toys in a
bar chart

Teacher first explains about bar chart by showing

them the template of 1 Wawasans favourite bar
chart.
Teacher asks students to put up their hands if
they like certain toys and write their names in the
appropriate column.
Based on the names in the column, teacher asks
a student to count.

The bar chart can be

written on mahjong paper.
With a bigger number of
students, teacher may
need not to write all the
names of the students.
Teacher can just write the
number of students who
like certain toys.

*This process continues until teacher finished

asking all the five favourite toys.

Descriptive writing
Students write a
simple description of
the bar chart.

Based on the bar chart, teacher guides the

students to write a descriptive writing. For
example, teacher can write:

The text can be written on

the board

In our class, the favourite toy is .. There are ..

boys and .. girls like the toy. The least favourite
toy is .. There are only .. students like the toy.
Teacher can ask students questions to fill in the
blanks. Once finished, teacher asks students to
read aloud the text.
Production
Fill in the blank activity
*this is based on the
bar chart activity

Teacher distributes the Bar chart-fill in the blank

Before ending the lesson, teacher can once again
ask students to recall the names of the five toys.
