Shark River dredging

project saved from
shutdown over TTF
SUSANNE CERVENKA @SCERVENKA

NEPTUNE - The Shark River dredging project that

was stalled by the gas-tax impasse will resume any
day now after state officials realized they risked losing an undisclosed amount of federal funding for the
work, a Monmouth County freeholder said.
The news assuages local concerns that the state-level standoff over the Transportation Trust Fund would
unravel a tenuous deal local officials spent nearly 20
years trying to move forward.
Tenacity works, said Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone, who has spent much of his
public career pushing for the dredging project.
The concern over the project ramped up so much
that officials behind the project announced a news conference Wednesday morning to demand work resume
before abruptly canceling the event and referring all
questions to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

More than a year after Clinton and Trump announced their

campaigns, sprint to November has started. STORY, 1B

PHILADELPHIA - Hillary Clinton on Thursday

made history as the first woman to accept a major political partys nomination for president, finalizing a
general election match-up against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
America is once again at a moment of reckoning,
said Clinton, speaking to a crowd filled with tall signs
bearing her name. And just as with our founders,
there are no guarantees. It truly is up to us. We have to
decide whether were going to work together so we
can all rise together.
It was a fantastic speech, it was very issue-oriented, said Rep. Frank Pallone, D-New Jersey, who
represents a portion of Monmouth County in Congress.
Women in the New Jersey delegation were transfixed throughout Clintons remarks.
Speech is great really hitting home themes of
this week and highlights of today: Unity and community, said Lauren Matos of Belmar, who was state political director for Clintons primary campaign.
Hillary Clinton is so intelligent, talented and compassionate, said Valerie Earp, 22, of Toms River, who

Delegates just want to have funds

KAREN YI @KAREN_YI

PHILADELPHIA - Theyve sold wedding rings

and earrings, asked friends for money and roomed
with strangers all for the opportunity to represent
their party at the Democratic National Convention
and vote for their candidate, Bernie Sanders.
For most Bernie supporters, this is outrageously
expensive, said Wayne Lewis, a first-time delegate
and professional poker player from Galloway. Lewis,
50, turned to GoFundMe, a crowdsourcing website, to
raise $4,500 for the four-day convention in the City of
Brotherly Love.
New Jerseys delegation stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Tinicum, Pennsylvania, where a onenight stay was almost $500.
Its insane, said said Elizabeth Maratea, a firsttime delegate from Clementon, as she smuggled out a
bagel and muffin from the delegation breakfast for
her daughter and husband.
