10 minute easy walk from the city centre with its shops, historic building and
great cafes.
THIS YEAR WE WILL AGAIN BE VETTING IN AT SHOW HALL LEVEL.
ONCE AGAIN WE ARE OFFERING TO OUR MEMBERS A 10 DISCOUNT IF YOU
ENTER MORE THAN ONE CAT. YOU CAN JOIN THE CLUB WITH YOUR ENTRY
TO BENEFIT FROM THE PREFERENTIAL MEMBERS RATE AND IT IS CHEAPER
TO ENTER AS A MEMBER EVEN IF ENTERING ONLY ONE CAT.
AGAIN THIS YEAR OUR DOUBLE PENS ARE 10 TO EASE THE FINANCIAL
COST OF SHOWING LARGER BREEDS.
We are offering our Charity Classes in aid of Chester Zoo Asian Elephant
Conservation Charity with the overall winner being awarded two Zoo Entrance
tickets.
The show is sponsored this year by Royal Canin so we anticipate some lovely
gifts for our winners.
There is less parking available at the hall now. The vast majority of you will be
able to park at the arena but please arrive early. If you arrive and the car park
is full there is a public car park a short walk away and we will have people on
the entrance of the car park with maps to help you find it. The club is happy to
refund the additional cost.
We are again holding a Best of Variety and Best in Show knockout competition
and the Best in Show finale is going to be judged with some style were sure by Elaine Culf.
The show is run as ever as a purely voluntary event by our hard working team
and we are always grateful for further offers of help.
We hope you can join us for a great day at the Chester and North Wales show and please bring as many of your beautiful cats as you can!

SHOW RULES, PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS

The show is held under the Rules of The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and is open to all.
A copy of these Rules is obtainable from the GCCF Office at 5 Kings Castle Business Park, The
Drove, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 4AG. These Rules must be read by all, for they are not repeated
herein, but will be strictly applied. Ignorance of any Rule will not be accepted as excuse of their breach.
The Committee reserve, to themselves, the right to:
a)
Appoint other judges should those advertised be unable to fulfil their engagement, and to appoint
further judges should they be required.
b)
Fix and limit the number of exhibits at the show.
c)
To accept or refuse exhibit entry without giving reason.
d)
Cancel, amalgamate or divide classes.
e)
Publish a catalogue of the show containing information as to the exhibits and names and
addresses of exhibitors.
f)
Disqualify cats entered into the wrong classes by exhibitors.
g)
Retain a percentage of the entry fees to cover essential expenses, in the event of the show
being cancelled for any reason.
h)
No other animals or pets will be allowed into the Show hall other than exhibiting Cats, Kittens and
Neuters.

GENERAL GUIDELINES ON ENTERING SHOWS

Where possible, always complete your show entry form from your GCCF registration document (i.e. Registration or Transfer Certificate) for the cat that is to be exhibited, printing the
details carefully to avoid any misinterpretation of your handwriting.
If you have not received your registration document at the time of entry, complete the show
entry form with the details from the pedigree, giving the first choice of name if it is a nonprefix registration, and put RAF (Registration Applied For) or TAF (Transfer Applied For), or
both, in the Regd. No. box. It is wise to enclose a stamped self-addressed acknowledgement
postcard with all registration and transfer applications, particularly for cats entered for shows,
so that you know that the application has been received by the GCCF.
Try to keep a copy of your entry form then, when you receive registration details and
number, check these against the entry form and notify the Show Manager(s) in writing of any
differences in the details as well as giving the registration number, if applicable. This may
not be in time for the printing of the Show Catalogue, but the Show Manager(s) should
attach your letter to your entry form which will save unnecessary notification of discrepancies
when the show is checked. All Catalogue errors are checked against the original entry form
and any exhibitors letters are used for reference. Show managements are permitted to
accept corrections, at their own discretion, up to the close of the show (on show day); such a
change must not be a change of exhibit.
If you are entering several cats from your household and the registered owners (exhibitors)
differ within that household/family, check with the Show Manager(s) whether using one entry
form is acceptable or not and, if it is, indicate very clearly which exhibitor owns which cat,
ensuring all owners sign the entry form. It may be less confusing and more acceptable to the
Show Manager(s) for each owner to use separate entry forms, but joint owners of an exhibit/
exhibits should always use the same form and both must sign.

NEW CLASS STRUCTURE

As of 1st June 2011, new rules for entering classes at shows now apply to all exhibits.
All exhibits must enter the class appropriate for the certificate level they are at.
Untitled exhibits enter the Breed Class and compete for a CC or PC. Cats with the Champion/Premier title will enter the Breed Class for Best of Breed only AND then the Champion/
Premier Class to compete for that certificate.
Cats with the Grand Champion/Grand Premier title will enter the Breed Class for Best of
Breed only AND then the Imperial Grand Champion/Imperial Grand Premier Class to compete for that certificate.
Cats already having attained the title of Imperial Grand Champion/Premier will enter the
Breed Class for Best of Breed only and the Olympian Imperial Grand Champion/Premier
Class to compete for that certiifcate.

STATUS OF ERRORS - WHAT TO EXPECT

MINOR ERRORS. These warrant a notification for your reference if the error occurs more
than once and it is apparent that registration details were available at the time of entry or
before the date of the show. Continuous repetition of the same error after notification will
be referred to the Executive Committee.
Examples of minor errors include:
(a) minor spelling errors
(b) separation of names that should be one word, and vice versa
(c) administrative/breeder's prefix omitted from, or partially incorrect name given
for exhibit (revised12.1.95)
(d) overseas title preceding the name of an exhibit, sire or dam, etc.
(e) full breed number known but not given
(f) Sire and Dam reversed (revised 5.1.94) or named incorrectly (revised 12.1.95)
(g) breeder joint when single and vice versa (revised 5.1.94)
INCORRECT DATE OF BIRTH. This is usually classed as a minor spelling error unless it
affects an entry into classes based on age groups, when it could warrant disqualification
of the exhibit from such classes; but if the incorrect date of birth affects the age suitability
as a whole, then the exhibit will be disqualified from the show.
NB AGE LIMITS:Kittens - not less than 14 weeks and under 9 calendar months on date of show.
Adults - not less than 9 calendar months on date of show
INCORRECT NAME OF EXHIBIT/OWNER/BREEDER. If registration/transfer details were obviously available at the time of entry or before the date of the show, disqualification is
inevitable. The following discrepancies are those which usually arise:

the person who actually takes the cat to the show

N.B. The breeder of a cat is always the registered owner of the dam on the date of the
cat's birth.
REGISTRATION/TRANSFER NOT RECEIVED BY GCCF 21 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE OF THE
SHOW: These entries will be disqualified. Remember the effective date of all registrations
and transfers is the first date of valid receipt by the GCCF and if you enclose your
own stamped addressed acknowledgement card with your application form, this will be
stamped with the GCCF office date of receipt.
TRANSFER OF EXHIBIT FROM EXHIBITOR TO A NEW OWNER RECEIVED BY GCCF MORE
THAN 21 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE OF THE SHOW. Entries such as these will also be
disqualified as the exhibitors entry form becomes invalid.
IINCORRECT CLASS ENTRY. These will be disqualified from the class concerned so
always check with the Show Manager if in doubt about which classes to enter. If a breed
number is changed officially, it is important that you notify the show Manager immediately.
CAT REGISTERED ON THE REFERENCE REGISTER. No cat registered on this Register is
eligible to be shown and therefore these entries will be disqualified.
The only exception to this is when a new breed becomes recognised: and then, cats of
the breed may be shown even if they are registered on the Reference Register as long as
this was the only reason for the Reference registration.
Exhibitors may appeal against any disqualification resulting from show checking, giving
their reasons. The appeal will be referred to the Executive Committee if considered valid
and, if not, a letter of explanation will be sent to the exhibitor(s). The above advice is
aimed to keep your show entries trouble-free,not to mention the show checking.

ON ARRIVAL AT THE SHOW

Exhibits will be received at the entrance of the show hall from 7.30 am until 9.45 am on the
morning of the show. Exhibits must be brought to the show in boxes, baskets or suitable
containers, accompanied by their owner/representative.
Each exhibit will be examined by the Honorary Veterinary Surgeons, who are authorised to
exclude any exhibit they consider unfit. No exhibit may be penned before being examined.
Vetting In Slips and exhibitors passes will be issued at vetting in. Tallies will not be issued at
this show.
All exhibits must have a current vaccination certificate against FIE, FVR & FCV (cat flu). The full
course, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, must have been completed
more than seven days before the show. The certificate must have been issued by a vet practice/
hospital & the last entry signed by a Vet.Surgeon or by a listed Vet. Nurse under the direction of a
Vet. Surgeon. Note that HOMEOPATHIC VACCINATION cannot be accepted. You will be asked
to produce a current vaccination certificate for each exhibit.
Exhibits must have clean ears and coats free from pests. No pregnant or lactating queen, nor
queen who has kittened within 12 weeks of this show may be exhibited. No exhibit that has
been declawed will be accepted, neither will male cats which are either monorchid or cryptorchid.
Unfit exhibits must be removed by their owners and payment forfeited. If in the Vet Surgeons
opinion it is desirable, all other exhibits from the same cattery/owner thereof shall be debarred from attending the show. The Veterinary Surgeons decision is final.
Where an exhibit has been rejected or disqualified by a Veterinary Surgeon, the show managers shall obtain the reasons and accordingly notify the GCCF within 72 hrs. of the show,
ensuring that a copy of the rejection form is forwarded to the exhibitors concerned.
The procedure for veterinary clearance is clearly stated in the GCCF Show Rules. However,
exhibitors whose cats have been rejected at shows should note the following points:
a)
When sending a Clearance Certificate to the GCCF Veterinary Officer, please include
your copy of the rejection slip.
b)
Do not send certificates by recorded delivery as this can cause delays in receipt. If
acknowledgement of receipt is required, please enclose a stamped addressed postcard
for signature acknowledging receipt.
c)
Exhibitors should not attend shows until they have received a letter accepting and
confirming clearance from the Veterinary Officer.

PRESENTATION AND BENCHING OF EXHIBITS

Take pride in presenting your exhibit. Be sure it is comfortable, warm and relaxed. Exhibitors must
provide each exhibit with clean, white blankets, (plain woven, not cellular, without distinctive
edgings or markings) of reasonable size to lie on (white Vet-bed or like material may be used if
preferred), a white food bowl and food, a white water bowl with fresh water and a white sanitary
tray, with the exhibits usual litter. All show equipment can be purchased at the show. Food
containers must be removed from the pen before judging commences at 10.00 am and can be
returned after 12.30 pm. Water must be left in the pen for the duration of the show. Hot water
bottles or heat reflecting material are the only heating devices allowed and must be concealed
by the blanket. None of the equipment in competition pens must bear any distinguishing marks.
No written or printed matter of any kind, other than official notices and award cards may be put
onto competitive pens, except with the permission of the show managers. For Sale notices are
not allowed.
The use of grooming aids in the show hall, other than the use of a clean brush and comb or cloth
is prohibited. No powder or grooming substance may be left in the coat of exhibits.
Using products to enhance the colour of an exhibit is forbidden, and the use of any substance
which change a cat's appearance or physical reaction is forbidden and will lead to disqualification, This includes Skulcap and Valerian Compunds and Rescue Remedy.
Exhibits received into the show hall cannot be removed, without the permission of the show
managers, prior to the closure of the show. Failure to observe this rule will lead to disqualification
and forfeiture of any prize money and awards won.
The show closes at 5.00 pm or earlier at the show managers discretion. There will be no early
removal passes issued.

JUDGING AND JUDGES

Judging will commence at 10.00 am and exhibitors will be requested to clear the hall at this
time until 12.30 pm, whilst the Open Classes are being judged. Judges are empowered to
withhold any prize, award or certificate in any class if the exhibits do not, in their opinion,
possess sufficient merit. Prizes will be awarded from the Judges award slip and not from any
catalogue or prize card. A Judges decision is final. An exhibitor may not approach a Judge,
nor enter into conversation with a Judge, until that Judges engagement is complete.

CORRESPONDENCE
All correspondence must be accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope if a reply is
required. Any complaint related to the Show must be forwarded to the Show Managers within
seven days of the show. To prevent disappointment it is recommended that exhibitors enclose a stamped addressed postcard with their entries, to be returned as acknowledgement of
receipt of entries.

NOTICE OF CHANGE
An announcement in the official media of the GCCF of any alterations or additions made to
this schedule or in these regulations shall be deemed sufficient notice.

SHOW WITHDRAWALS AND ALTERATIONS

The last date for withdrawal of a cat from a show is the advertised closing date for
entries at that show. After this date the cat/s concerned may not be withdrawn, regardless of the circumstances, from the show and the Rule about entering shows within 13
days will apply.This ruling does not prevent Show Managers from returning entries after the
closing date of the show if they are unable to accept them into the show because the show is
full. There will be no refund of entry fees after closing date. Withdrawal/substitution
requests must be received in writing brefore the closing date. Corrections to your entry
form can be made on show day up to the close of the show.

INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS

Your attention is drawn to the following notes:
Ensure that vaccination certificates are readily available at vetting-in to avoid delay, are
properly completed and clearly indicate the identity of both exhibit & owner to avoid confusion which may result in rejection from the show under Section A of the GCCF Code for
Veterinary Inspection.
The use of any product (shampoos, grooming products, stress remedies, etc) which change
the cats normal appearance or physical reaction are striclty prohibited under Section 4, Rule
14.
The use of toxic disinfectants, aerosols and sprays within the show hall is prohibited.
The club welcome advertisements but draw to the attention of exhibitors that advertising
attendance at future events could lead to disqualification.
Owners are liable for the cost of any veterinary treatments carried out to their cat(s) during
their absence from the show hall.
Top-opening carriers are recommended for use at cat shows.
Any cat which cannot be safely removed from its carrier on arrival will not be vetted-in.
Any cat which cannot be safely handled will not be judged for Best in Show.
Cats which are not normally resident with their registered owner should be transferred into the
ownership of their keeper if they are to be shown. Exhibitors are reminded that in the event of
rejection, all exhibits in the same registered ownership may also be rejected and clearance
may be required for both households.
Cats registered on the Reference Register may not be shown in competition, unless they were
registered before their breed had preliminary recognition and are now considered as if
registered on the experimental register.
Queens who have kittened within 12 weeks of the show may not be shown.
Any person whose cats have been rejected under sections C & D must not officiate as a judge
or a steward nor in any capacity which requires the handling of cats at shows until the GCCF
clearance certificate has been obtained.
Cats should not be left in cars during the show.

DEFINITION OF CLASSES AND EXHIBITS

Breed Classes:

Open to all untitled Cats/Neuters of the specified breed (must be GCCF

Registered). CC/PC will be awarded to the winner.

Champion/
Premier Classes: Cats with Champion/Premier status must enter in this class and compete
for a Grand certificate.
Grand Classes:
Cats with Grand status must enter this class and compete for an Imperial
Certificate.
Olympian Classes: Cats with Imperial status must enter this class and compete for an
Olympian Certificate.
Cats:
Not less than 9 calendar months on the day of the show.
Kittens:
Not less than 14 weeks and under 9 calendar months on the day of the show,
whether neutered or not. You must advise the show manager if you neuter
your kitten after you make your entry.
Neuter Adults:
Neuters may only enter Neuter Classes and may not compete with entire cats
except in Club Classes which are scheduled to include Neuters.
Novice:
Exhibits that have not won a First Prize in any class at a show held under
GCCF Rules.
Limit:
Exhibits that have not won more than four First Prizes in any class at a show
held under GCCF Rules.
Special Limit:
Exhibits that have won more than four First Prizes in any class at a show
held under GCCF Rules.
Debutante:
Exhibits that have never been shown at a show held under GCCF Rules.
Maiden:
Exhibits that have not won a First, Second or Third Prize in any class at a
show held under GCCF Rules.
Breeders:
Exhibits bred by exhibitor/s. Cats originally registered in the Breeders joint
ownership but changed to single ownership of one of the Breeders can still
be entered in this class. Cats originally registered in the Breeder's single
ownership and changed to joint ownership with the Breeder should be entered in the Non-Breeders Class.
Non-Breeders:
Exhibits not bred by the exhibitor (see above - "Breeders")
Adolescent:
Cats over 9 months of age and under 15 months on the day of the show.
Junior:
Cats over 9 calendar months of age and under 2 years on the day of the
show.
Senior:
Cats 2 years old and over on the day of the show.
Aristocrat:
Cats who have won one or more CCs or PCs but are not yet titled.
Champion/Premier: Cats which have attained these titles
Grand Ch/Pr:
Cats which have attained these titles
Imperial Grand:
Cats which have attained these titles
Radius:
Cats with a "CH" postcode in their address
Visitors:
Cats with a non-"CH" postcode in their address.
Notes:
a)
The status of the exhibit for entering restricted classes (i.e. Maiden, Limit, etc.) shall be the cats
status on the day of entry, except where Section 2, Rule 15e applies.
b)
The wins as a kittens do not count when the exhibit is shown as an Adult or Neuter.
c)
The wins as an Adult do not count when the exhibit is neutered and shown.
d)
When counting wins/prizes include all obtained in any class at a show held under GCCF Rules.

ABBREVIATIONS.
S.H. - Short Haired; A.V. - Asian SH or Tiffany; A.O.V. - Any other Variety than specifed in a similar
class; A.C. - Any Colour; A.O.C. - Any other Colour; M - Male; MN - Male neuter; F - Female; FN Female neuter; GCCF - Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.

CHAMPIONS / PREMIERS
The title of Champion for cats and Premier for Neuters shall be granted to exhibits winning
three Challenge Certificates or Premier Certificates at three Shows under separate judges.
A GCCF Challenge/Premier Certificate will be offered for each cat/neuter Breed Class of
the recognised breeds with Championship status.

GRAND CHAMPIONS / PREMIERS

The title of Grand Champion will be granted to a cat winning three Grand Champion
Challenge Certificates at three shows under three different judges. To compete in Grand
Champion Class,a cat must be a full Champion. A Champion cat may only be shown in its
Grand Champion Class. Only one prize with a Reserve in case of disqualification will be
awarded.The title of Grand Premier will be granted to neutered cats under the same rules
andconditions as those for Grand Champion.

IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION / PREMIERS

The title of Imperial Grand Champion will be granted to a cat winning five Imperial Grand
Champion Challenge Certificates at five shows under five different judges. To compete in
the Imperial Grand Champions Class, a cat must be a full Grand Champion. A Grand
Champion cat may only be shown in the Imperial Grand Champion Class. Only one prize
with a Reserve in case of disqualification will be awarded. The title of Imperial Grand
Premier will be granted to neutered cats under the same rules and conditions as those for
Imperial Grand Champion

OLYMPIAN IMPERIALGRAND CHAMPION / PREMIERS

The title of Olympian Imperial Grand Champion will be granted to a cat winning five Olympian
Imperial Grand Challenge Certificates at five shows under five different judges. To compete
in the Olympian Class, a cat must be a full Imperial Grand Champion. An Imperial Grand
Champion cat may only be shown in the Olympian Imperial Grand Champion Class. Only
one prize with a Reserve in case of disqualification will be awarded. The title of Olympian
Imperial Grand Premier will be granted to neutered cats under the same rules and conditions
as those for Imperial Grand Champion

EXHIBITS FOR ASSESSMENT CLASSES

Cats, kittens and neuters of those breeds with Preliminary recognition must enter the appropriate Assessment Class, and up to three applicable Miscellaneous or Club classes. From 1st

June, 2011 these are competitive. The cats will be judged and awarded a Merit Certificate
if worthy (as previously) and will also be placed against each other. The first prize winner
will be eligible for consideration for Best In Show. PLEASE NOTE: Exhibitors must provide,
with their entry form, a copy of the GCCF approved Standard of Points for each exhibit they
are entering into Assessment Classes.

CHARITY CLASSES
The Chester & North Wales Cat Club have adopted a Tiger at Chester Zoo through their
"Adopt An Animal" scheme, so helping in the conservation of this endagered species. Proceeds from the charity classes will be donated to the fund and any surplus donated to a Cat
Charity or the adoption of another "small cat".

PHOTOGRAPHY
Please note that this show has an offical photographer. No photographs of any exhibit shall
be taken without the owners permission and no flash photography without the Show Managers permission. If your cat is removed from its pen to be photographed,please ensure that
you place a notice to this effect on its pen during its absence to avoid undue distress. If your
cat is not in its pen when required by a judge, it will be marked absent and no re-judging will
take place.

BEST IN SHOW PROCEEDURE

Best of Breed winners will beassessed by the BOV judge at the pens and a BIS adult/kitten/
neuter and overall BOV selected at the pens.
The BOV winners are then transferred to BIS pens for assessment and selection of overall BIS

NON-PEDIGREE/PEDIGREE PET SECTION

Cats over 6 months old must be neutered. All cats must be vaccinated for catflu and
enteritis with the last vaccination being no later than 7 days in advance of this show.
You must bring your up to date vaccination card with you to the show for inspection.
YOUR VACCINATION CARD MUST SHOW THE PET NAME OF YOUR CAT
(I.E. THE NAME THAT YOU ENTER THE SHOW AS)
Cats must be presented on white blankets with white litter trays, food bowl and water
container.All these items can be purchased at the show. Please ensure that all cats are
clean, their ears are free from dirt and wax and their nails are clipped. Make sure that
your cat has no bald patches or healing wounds (scabs) and that it is free from fleas and
flea dirt. Brush all loose hair from the coat and make sure any white areas are sparkling.
Bring your cat to the show in a secure basket - a cardboard carrier is NOT suitable.

CLASS STRUCTURE FOR THE HOUSEHOLD PET SECTION

GCCF MASTER CAT CLASSES AT CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS
FROM 1ST JUNE, 2011
Each cat can enter only one certificate class. Exhibitors should check carefully which
class is appropriate for their cat. All Adult Classes will be split if the opposite sex is
entered.

THE COLOUR GROUP CLASSES:

These are open to all untitled Neuters over nine months. Master Cat Certificates will be
awarded to the winners. Titled cats may also be considered with the winners of these
classes for Best of Colour/Best of Breed.

MASTER CAT CLASSES:

A cat with the title Master Cat should enter in this class and compete for a Grand Master
Cat certificate OR they could be entered for Best of Colour/Best of Breed only, but not in
competition in the above class.

GRAND MASTER CAT CLASSES:

Cats with a Grand Master Cat title must enter this class and compete for an Imperial Grand
Master Cat Certificate OR they could be entered for Best of Colour/Best of Breed only, but
not in competition in the above classes.
The above classes are for NON PEDIGREE PETS and also PEDIGREE PETS in two separate
sections and will be split Shorthair and Long/Semi-Longhair and for MN or FN as before.

OLYMPIAN CLASSES:
The Olympian Classes will be combined for both Non-Pedigree and Pedigree Pets and are
for Imperial Grand Master Cats of Any Colour and Any Coat Length. They will be split male
and female. Imperial Grand Master Cats in either Pet Section may enter this class. The
award is an Olympian Certificate and a Reserve. The cats may also be considered for
Best of Breed/Best of Colour in the appropriate class

DEFINITION

OF

COLOURS

SELF means any one colour - no mater which colour this is e.g. black, blue, red (with NO
tabby markings) and includes Bicoloured pedigree pet/half pedigree cats.
AC means Any Colour
AOC means Any Other Colour, and includes all pointed, ticked, tipped and smoke cats..
ANY PATTERN in tabby, ginger or red cats means classic, blotched, mackerel, striped or
spotted tabby.
Notes:
IA ginger or red cat with NO pattern should be entered in the Self Class whether it
has white or not.
Blue Tortoiseshell (Blue-Cream) cats, with or without white, should enter the Any
Colour Tortoiseshell Class.
Please make sure you enter your cat in the correct colour class to avoid disqualifaction. If
you are unsure of the correct colour class, please conatct the Show Manager.
