FREE VERSE

The

unit of rhythm

poem; length can

COUPLET

form of stanza within a

Does not have to
rhyme.

SESTET

6 lined stanza
within a poem.

OCTAVE

ASSONANCE

repetition of
vowel sounds.
Example: molten
golden notes

ONOMATOPOEIA
The

use of words or
phrases that sound like
the items to which they
refer.
Examples: Buzz, Hiss,
Boo, Bam, Pow, Zoom

PARADOX
A

statement or situation
containing apparently
contradictory or incompatible
elements but upon closer
inspection might be true
