My Philosophy in Educational Technology

As an educator it is my duty to prepare my students for the future. Every child is a unique
individual and I believe that they need a secure, caring and stimulating environment in which to
grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my hope and desire as
a teacher to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment
that is warm, safe and conducive for learning. Also an environment which supports risk taking,
sharing opinions, discovery learning and ideas. It is also my duty to ensure that students have
the knowledge, interest and ability to function in a technology dominant world. I believe that in
order to establish such an environment the teacher should act as a guide or a facilitator, allowing
the childs natural curiosity to direct his /her learning and promote respect for things and
individuals.
When the teacher act as a facilitator, providing access to information and technology
tools rather than acting as the primary source of information, students search for knowledge is
met as they learn to find answers to their questions independently which will help them to grow
and develop. In order for students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover
things on their own and practice skills in authentic situation. When students are given access to
technology and allowed adequate time and space to use materials or tools that reinforces the
lesson being learnt, they are better able to grasp what has been taught. This creates an
opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur.
. I believe that new and emerging technologies have given teachers the chance to produce
an environment that can engage learners in active, constructivist, intentional, authentic, and

cooperative learning. I think computer technology is not simply conveyor or communicator of

meaning, nor should it prescribe and control all of the learner interactions. I believe that
technology plays a very important role in the teaching and learning process but it should not in
replace the teacher. The teacher has to be there to facilitate and guide the students. Technology
creates opportunities for students to gather new information, explore and work independently.
In conclusion, my philosophy of Educational Technology is that technology must support
learning-by-doing, learning by conversing, and learning by reflecting. It should function as
intellectual tool kits that enable learners to build more meaningful personal interpretations and
representations of the world.
