Supporting Bible translation in Papua New Guinea

July 2016

Mini New Testament Bible Dedication

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Urim-Kalpm Mini New Testament Dedication. This people group,
located in the west of PNG, has a population of about 1,000. Seija Meinander and my house-mate, Joyce,
have been working with this language group for some years, helping them translate Scriptures. Their new
book allows them to read Luke, Acts, Philippians, Colossians, Titus, and James in their own language. They
are also able to listen to an audio version of the text and simultaneously read and listen to Scripture using a
cell phone app. It was an encouraging trip, and Im happy that I was able to celebrate with Joyce and the Urim
-Kalpm people. Please pray that they will use their increased access to Gods Word to grow
closer to Him!
The flower-decorated Mini New Testaments were carried to the celebration with dance, drums, and singing.
Attendees were excited to hold the books, and many enjoyed listening to the audio versions. I was able to
participate in a reading workshop the next
day.

Weve Graduated!

Our school year ended mid-June. The last

elementary event of the year is sixth grade graduation. These students were
excited to have finished their elementary years. My main ceremonial task was
to hand out the certificates of completion. I taught this group of students when
they were in second and third grade. It was a joy to participate in this right-of-passage.
Please pray that

I will be able to prepare for the start of the new school year on the 20th.
I will be able to complete my one remaining graduate course this fall.
That my failing computer will last until December.
Why are my finances so low? Wycliffe recently made some
adjustments to the missionary budget. My assigned ministry budget
includes funds for my salary as well as other ministry expenses
associated with my work. Following a recent review, Wycliffe found
that the ministry budget base salary level needed to be adjusted to
meet the rising demands of healthcare, retirement and other
expenses.
I am still receiving approximately the same amount of compensation
as I have in the past, but because my budget amount has increased, I
am dealing with a budget short-fall. Please prayerfully consider
increasing your financial partnership so that I can more consistently receive 100% of my ministry budget.
As always, thank you for partnering with me as I support Bible translation efforts in PNG!
