1) An axial service load (including self-weight of the footing) of 4500 KN is to be supported by a
square footing founded at a depth of 1.3m in a deposit of silty sand having the following properties; = 17.6 KN/m3, = 33, C = 0. Using a factor of safety of 3 against bearing capacity failure, determine the dimensions of the footing. 2) A 2.5mX2.5m square footing is to be placed at a depth of 2m below ground level in a clay layer. The water table is at a depth of 1.5m below ground level. Properties of the clay are as follows: Cu = 90KN/m2, u = 0, C = 10 KN/m2, = 20, sat = 20KN/m3, = 18KN/m3. The footing supports a vertical column load which has an eccentricity of 0.04m along the x-axis. Determine the maximum load that can be applied to the column. 3) Design a rectangular isolated footing for the data given below. Service load(including self-weight of footing): P=1300KN; MX = 14KNm; MY = 10KNm Design load: P = 2500KN; MX = 260KNm; MY = 100KNm Column dimension: 300mm X 500mm (shorter side is parallel to x-axis). Use L/B ratio of 1.3. Allowable Bearing Capacity of the soil: 200KPa Factor of safety: 2.5 Use Concrete grade of C-25 and Steel grade of S-300. 4) Design a rectangular combined footing for the data given below. Design load: Column-1; P = 950KN, MY = 110KNm with dimensions 300mm X 300mm Column-2; P = 1500KN, MY = 138KNm with dimensions 400mm X 400mm Column-1 is at the left side & its face is at a distance of 0.5m from the property line. Column center to center spacing is 4m. Ultimate Bearing Capacity of the soil: 150KPa. Use Concrete grade of C-30 and Steel grade of S-400. 5) Design a strap footing for the data given below. Design load: Column-1; P = 1400KN, MY =80KNm with dimensions 400mm X 400mm Column-2; P = 1500KN, MY = 100KNm with dimensions 400mm X 400mm Column-1 is located at the left side of the building and its left face is on the property line. Column center to center spacing is 5m. Ultimate Bearing Capacity of the soil: 200KPa. Use Concrete grade of C-30 and Steel grade of S-400. 6) Complete the Mat design of example-5.
