Scene 1

Narrator

Mahsuri was a pretty little girl living in Langkawi Island. Her family
was very poor, but they lived happily.
Dad is removing the weed. Mum is sweeping the floor. Mahsuri
wander around happily and walks towards her father and help him.

Dad

The weather is so hot, the soil is so hardHaih

Mahsuri

Daddy, let me help you!

Dad

Come, my good girl.


Mahsuri smiles and helps out. Dad walks towards mum.

Mum

(to her husband) We are so glad to have this girl in our family.

Dad

Um hmm

Scene 2

Narrator

Time flies. Soon, Mahsuri had become the most beautiful lady in
Langkawi Island. Wan Mahora, who was the wife of Ketua
Kampung, was jealous of her beauty.
Wan Mahora takes out her mirror.

Wan Mahora

Mirror mirror mirror, who is the prettiest of us all?

Mirror

Mahsuri.

Wan Mahora

What!? No way! I must think of a way to kill her, so that I will be the
prettiest woman in Langkawi Island!

Narrator

Mahsuri did not know anything. She continued being kind to


everyone. One day, when she was on the way back home, she met
a man named Wan Darus.
Mahsuri and Wan Darus bump together.

Wan Darus

Mahsuri

Its okay, I am alright.


Mahsuri and Wan Darus keep silent for a minute, showing some
uncomfortable face expressions and actions.

Wan Darus

Lady, what is your name?

Mahsuri

My name is Mahsuri.

Wan Darus

Wow, what a beautiful name you have!

Mahsuri

Thank you. What is your name?

Wan Darus

My name is Wan Darus. Where are you going then?

Mahsuri

I am going back to my house. My parents are waiting for me.

Wan Darus

Wan Darus

me to follow her back. I am very pleased, she knows how to take
care of herself and make sure her own safety!

Narrator

Wan Darus fell in love immediately to Mahsuri. One day, he met


Mahsuri again.

Wan Darus

Mahsuri, its you! What a coincidence!

Mahsuri

Hello, Wan Darus. Where are you going?

Wan Darus

I am going to the market. How about you??

Mahsuri

I am going to the market too.

Wan Darus

Lets go together.

Mahsuri

Sure.

Narrator

Wan Darus was so happy that Mahsuri accepted his invitation.

They started to chat happily when going to the market, and soon it
was evening.
Wan Darus

I am sorry, I am so happy to talk with you until I forget the time.

Mahsuri

Its okay, dont worry.

Wan Darus

Im so worry about your safety, its too late now. Can I send you
back home?
Mahsuri and Wan Darus freeze.

Narrator

After the whole day chit-chatting with Wan Darus, Mahsuri found
out that he was a nice and humorous person. Plus, he was very
gentlemen and respected her in every aspects. This was very rare
in their community as the people always look down on ladies. So,
Mahsuri started to fell in love with Wan Darus and allowed him to
send her back home.
Both of them unfreeze. Mahsuri smiles.

Mahsuri

Of course. Lets go!

Wan Darus

(to the audiences) Yeah!

Narrator

From that day onwards, Wan Darus always visit Mahsuri. Soon,
they get married. However, Wan Mahora was unhappy as Mahsuri
had become her sister-in-law.

Wan Darus

I am the happiest person in the world!

Wan Mahora

HmmI am so angry because my brother loves Mahsuri! Mahsuri


is prettier than me! This cannot be!

Scene 5

Narrator

However, happiness was always short. Not long after their


marriage, Wan Darus needed to go to a war as a warrior. So,
Mahsuri was left alone.

Wan Darus

Sayang, I need to go to the war. The Siamese army is attacking the


town.

Mahsuri

Darus, please dont goI will miss you very muchPlease

Wan Darus

Sayang, I have to go. How I wish I can stayI will take care of
myself and will be back soon.
Wan Darus leaves, Mahsuri cries.

Narrator

Every day and then, Mahsuri always hope for her husbands return.
She always peek through her window to see whether Wan Darus
has come back.

Mahsuri

I miss Darus very much. Hopefully he will be safe.

Scene 6

Narrator

One morning, a cloth merchant came and talked to Mahsuri. Wan

Mahora passed by and saw them.


Cloth Merchant

Lelong-lelongCloth for saleCloth for sale


Cloth Merchant approaches Mahsuri and they talk happily about
the cloth. Wan Mahora passes by and peek through.

Wan Mahora

See, I knew it! I am going to tell the whole village that Mahsuri
cheats her husband! (go to the audiences and shout) Villagers!
Mahsuri is not faithful to her husband! She has another man!

Villagers

What? No way!!

Wan Mahora

We need to tell the Ketua Kampung!

Villagers

Tell the Ketua Kampung! Tell the Ketua Kampung!

Wan Mahora

Mahsuri should get punishment!

Villagers

Get punishment! Get punishment!

Narrator

So, Wan Mahora told the Ketua Kampung about this. Ketua
Kampung was very angry.

Ketua Kampung

What!? Mahsuri has bring shame to our island!

Wan Mahora

Yes, she has bring shame to our island!

Villagers

Shameful! Shameful!

Ketua Kampung

What should we do now?

Wan Mahora

People like this should be killed!

Ketua Kampung

Arrest her to Padang Matsirat and tie her up! I will stab her with my
Keris!

Narrator

The villagers soon go to Mahsuris house, tie her up and arrest her
to Padang Matsirat. Wan Mahora was very happy and laughed
evilly.

Wan Mahora

Hahaha! Mahsuri, you will be punished very soon! And I will be the
prettiest lady in Langkawi Island!

Mahsuri

(To the crowd) Why are you arresting me!? Why!?

Ketua Kampung

Because you bring shame to our island!

Mahsuri

What have I done!?

Ketua Kampung

You are not faithful to your husband! You fall in love with the cloth
merchant!

Mahsuri

No! I love Darus as always!

Ketua Kampung

Have you talked to a cloth merchant this morning?

Mahsuri

Yes, but

Wan Mahora

You cheated my brother! You should be punished!

Mahsuri

No, please listen to me

Ketua Kampung

You dont need to explain. You bring shame to our island! You
should be put to death!

Mahsuri

Wan Mahora

Mahsuri

Ketua Kampung

Ketua Kampung stabs Mahsuri with keris.

Narrator

Soon, white blood flowed from Mahsuris body.

Ketua Kampung

White blood! She is innocent!

Mahsuri

generations
Mahsuri dies. Wan Mahora laughed evilly and takes out her mirror
again.

Wan Mahora

Mirror mirror mirror, now, who is the prettiest of us all!?

Mirror

Mahsuri has died. Now, you are the prettiest!


Wan Mahora laughs evilly and leaves.

Ketua Kampung

(to the audiences) I am so regret! I should investigate the truth


before killing Mahsuri! I am so stupid! I am wrong!

Narrator

Since then, there was little development in Langkawi Island. Today,


Langkawi Island is known as the island of the legend of Mahsuri.
The moral of the story is that we should investigate the truth before
making any decision. If not, your decision may cost you to live in
regret for your whole life.
