Notes:
1. Hawthorne experiments were conducted by Prof Elton Mayo at the Hawthorne Plant of Western
Electric Company, so are known after this name.
2. The book Administrative Behaviour brought laurels to Herbert Simon and ultimately he got the
Nobel Prize on the basis of this book in 1978.
3. Pai Panandikar has made an empirical analysis of values and behaviours of Indias developmental
administrators; Roy and Kothari have made an empirical study of relationship between politicians
and administrators in a district in Uttar Pradesh,
Kuldeep Mathur has studied the
background, approaches and values of Sub-divisional Development officers of UP and Rajasthan and
C.P. Bhambhari has studied the behavioural patterns of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.
4. Robert Presthus and Michael Crozier have conducted cross cultural studies with regard to the
behavioural aspect of the bureaucrats in different cross cultural settings.
