Introduction and Objective: The depth of polymerization caused in a dental composite resin
through the fotoactivation with two conventional light sources and Innova 300 laser light adapted
experimentally to 488nm length of wave were compared. Materials and Methods: 12 composite
samples were fotocured using 3 different sources of light in 2 different thickness dimensions,
according to ISO 4049:2000 regulations. After 60 days of polymerization, micro hardness analyses
were carried out. Results: ANOVA showed significant differences between light intensities (Halogen
440 mW/cm2> LED 810 mW/cm2> Laser 174 mW/cm2 P=0.016). LED in particular showed the
greater light power densities on the radiometer measurements, but did not manifest the higher micro
hardness. DISCUSSION. Laser source exhibited the lower light intensities and produced the lower
temperature registered on the composite body , the experimental Laser projected from one metro
of distance, hardening the material above the 70 Knoop units of micro hardness at 2.5mm of depth
demonstrating capacity of remote fotopolimerization. This phenomenon supposes potential utility
for different areas such as engineering. Conclusions: The Knoop micro hardness values in all the
composites being tested showed superior values at 2.5 mm respect to 3.5mm of depth. Halogen
light source of 440mW/cm2 provoked the greater micro hardness on the composites, also producing
the greater temperatures registered on the heat sensor during the fotocured process, respect to
the other two systems employed. Key words: Micro hardness, Deep of polymerization. Rev.CES
