The Swenson- Walker Crystallizer

This type Works on similar principles. However, the tube is replaced by a tank
fitted with a spiral stirrer, water and lid.

3. The Wulff Bock Crystallizer
This is shown in figure 4 and consists of a trough which is slowly rocked from
side by a motor and ring-and-roller mechanism fitted to the trough.

Saturated liquor is continuously fed into the trough at one end and crystal
slurry is removed at the opposite lower end. The cooling required to produce
crystallization is achieved by blowing cold air over the surface of the liquid in
the trough. The gentle agitation produced by the rocking motion helps the
formation of crystals and discourages them from sticking together.
Scraped tube, Swenson-Walker and Wulff-Bock crystallizers all produce crystals
by cooling and are continuous in action. They are simple to make and operate
but have three major disadvantages.
