Design Concept & Design Brief

8.1

The Proposal

Keeping in view Pakistans recent developments in Media Production we can say that Pakistan
has the capability to produce good media content and be beneficial for society, economics and
portraying a better image of our country to the World. The Idea is to create a Hub which
encompasses the study of modern technologies for Advertising, Animation, Film and TV,
Photography and Visual Effects. This Institute will not only help in creating professionals of our
own but this will be a hub for National and International filmmakers, Media Producers,
Computer Animators, etc to gather and work on Mega Projects with the help of latest
technologies and Fresh Minds of this Institute. This will be made possible by merging work
spaces and studios within the Institute. Facilities for short term residence (Hostels) will also be
provided with categorization for Teachers and Students. Environment and Building will be
designed specifically to boost the creative thinking process of Students, Teachers and
Professionals. This Institute will be named as Institute of Media Production. Site Selected for
this Institute is at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, Pakistan, adjacent Aziz Bhatti Park and Federal
Urdu University.

8.2

Design Concept

My concept is to design a place where students can sense their ownership and attachment with
the building. A place where they feel alive and their minds feel enlighten with new ideas and
concepts. An Educational building which no student dislikes and wish to study in such type of
building. My concept is to reform all the previous boring educational building standards and
revive the learning process by creating effective learning environment which ensures better
academic and social results.

Directors Office
Director is the head of this Institute so his office is situated at the central building.
Administrative Offices
These offices are also situated at the central building.
Waiting Areas
Waiting Areas and Lounges are proposed near offices and meeting halls.
Conference Room
Conference Room is proposed in the main building where teachers, HoD(s) and Director will
discuss about issues.
Meeting Rooms

Meeting Rooms are for visitors and professionals from Media Industry.
Teachers Offices
Teachers Offices are proposed in each department with all the basic facilities.
Class Rooms
Class Rooms are Naturally Lit and Ventilated with capacity of 40 Students per class.
Studios
Various types of studios are proposed in which students will learn the usage of digital and analog
equipments.
Audio Labs
These labs are proposed for processing, mixing and dubbing of audios.
Video Labs
These labs are proposed for Modeling, Texture, Lighting, Animation, Composition and Editing
of Videos and Graphics.
Computer Labs
Computer labs are proposed in each department which will benefit students for smart learning
experience.
Library
The proposed library has a collection of books regarding Cinema, Media and their technologies.
Screening Rooms
Screening rooms will serve for viewing various films for study or reviewing purposes.
Student Activity Areas
Student Activity Areas are proposed for the recreation of Students.

Cafeteria
Cafeteria is proposed for refreshment facility.
Prayer Hall
Prayer Hall is proposed within the building for the ease of students and teachers.
Green Spaces
Interactive green spaces that will complement the building design.
Parking
Parking Facility will be provided for Students, Staff and Teachers.

8.4

Conclusion

The building will present a good view, along with a combination of shaded and sunny spaces.
Openings of the buildings will be placed considering the effects of light, wind and noise
pollution. Access between interiors and exteriors of buildings will be made easier for normal and
handicapped persons. The whole site will be boundary wall protected.
