BUSINESS COMMUNICATION MEMORANDUM

DATE: June 20, 2016

TO: Business 2200 Colleagues
FROM: Jeremy Trujillo
SUBJECT: Communications Issue Article

& Short Presentation

Overview Student Organizations are always seeking new members but student
organizations struggle getting beneficial information out effectively as email is mostly
dependended upon. The communication for these two main tools could be
communicated more effectively.
Research Question There is social media developed for Student Life but have you
heard about it? A website called Orgsync is where you will find all the student
organization information and register to an organization but have you heard about it?
What methods of communication could benefit Student Life in getting students more
aware of student organizations?
Rationale This project will develop critical thinking and creativity in effective business
communication. The goal is to provide a solution to motivate and influence students
through effective communication tailored to findings from research.
Feasibility SLCC Student Life, VP of Clubs Ana Brown is on board with this idea and
sees it as an opportunity.
Student Life is located in the main Student Center. Student organization member
numbers have declined dramatically over the last few years. It has been difficult to find a
communication vehicle that would be more effective.
Surveying students is very feasible and convenient to accomplish the primary research
needed for such a project. Secondary research should be readily available through
Student Life.
Materials and Methods This project will include surveying a large group of students,
as well as teachers and ePortfolio department staff, then interpreting the results and
creating a proposal to address them. As a project group we'll develop strategic
questions to identify

Specific research question to be answered by the project

Survey Questionnaire (student organization members)
Survey Questionnaire (non-student organization members)
Focus Group
Secondary research (student organization benefits)
Prioritize solutions by feasibility
Present solutions to VP Ana Brown and any guests

Personnel Members participating in this project shall divide responsibilities fairly.

Group will need a team lead to communicate with Student Life, a logistics liaison for
scheduling and sticking to deadlines, and a communications liaison for developing
shared drives and ensuring communication is clear to all members. All members shall
participate in completing surveys and focus group tasks as assigned.
Time Frame The following are suggested group completion dates.
Brainstorming meeting for research question and questionnaire July 2nd
Analyze findings from survey data Focus Group based on survey findings Compare primary research with secondary research Prioritize feasible solutions Presentation Hurdles SLCC has over 36,000 registered students so this project needs to have a
very specific target market for the research question. Also, a detailed survey
questionnaire that will answer that question.
This project will be challenging because it will require the group to think outside the box.

Respectfully,

X
