BETRAYING FILIPINO LANGUAGE

Good morning to all of you, Maayong Buntag in Cebuano, Naimbag Nga Bigat in
Ilocano, Marhay na aga in Bicolano and Magandang umaga in Tagalog. My Speech is all
about Betraying Filipino Language, for those people who betrayed, forget and look down
on our national languange,Filipino. Those people who are more appreciated and beloved
other language than ours. Ask your self, are you, you, you, all of you are the one who
betrayed our languange?
Language is a form of communication, either spoken or written and system used by
a particular country.
There are many languanges that can we hear in our world. Like English, Japanese,
Chinese, Spanish, Latin and etc. Also in Philippines, many languages can be find like
Cebuano, Bicolano, Ilocano, Waray and Tagalog.
Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang
isda it is the famous words from our national hero Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y
Alonzo Realonda who gave importance to language in every persons life. The languange
of our country ,we can say that the soul of our country and if you not respected our
language it can upset the image of our country.
Let me show to all of you the history of our language. During the Spanish time
arrived in 16 century, there was no common language in the Philippines. The three major
language were Kapampangan, Ilocano and Visaya. By 1898 the common language was
Spanish, spoken by around 70% of the population. On 1936, created the National
Language Institute making a study and survey of each existing native language, hoping to
choose which was to be the base for a standardized national language. The three main
contenders were Tagalog, Visayan, and Ilocano. On July 14 1936, the Surin ng Wikang
Pambans (National Language Institute) selected Tagalog as the basis of the Wikang
Pambans. The first dictionary of Tagalog language was written by Franciscan Pedro de
San Buenaventura in 1613, published by Tomas Pinpin printed, in Pila, Laguna.
On 1937, President Manuel L. Quezon approving the adoption of Tagalog as the basis
of the national language of the Philippines, declared and proclaimed the national
language so based on the Tagalog dialect, as the national language of the Philippines.
After so many years, the filipino remain our national language. And it is also evolves as

the year pass. Many words added but the worst, we dont gave importance now to our
language.
Now a days, I couldnt see some peoples that is fluent and adebt in saying Filipino
language. In Tagalog Bihira nang makakita ngayon ng mga pilipinong sanay at matatas
managalog. The Balagtasan was now lost, and the Filipinos have no more time to read
Filipino articles, stories, salawikain, kasabihan, and fiipino riddles and poems. And this
is my Title all about, BETRAYING FILIPINO LANGUAGE, Iam addressing this speech
to crowd that is not comfortable with our own language. I write these for those people
who would look down on the Filipino language , as the language of uneducated, the
jologs ,the bekimons and jejemons. It is not helpful they make bad image on our own
language. To some Inglesero ,they say that more sosyal if you are saying english
language. So I also write these for those who take pride and advantage in saying English.
Many Filipino students living in Manila and the provinces remain foreign to their
national language Filipino despite the annual celebration of National Language Month
(Buwan ng Wika) every August. Majority of the students outside Manila do not speak
Filipino whether they are at home or in school, according to the Department of Education
(DepEd). Filipino can even be considered as a foreign language to some students who
are enrolled in private and exclusive schools where speaking English is common. The big
question is, Are you willing to change our national language by other foreign language?
Do you want English to be our Language? Do you want to remove or retain the Filipino
subject in our academic?
We are the one who destroy and negates our languanges. For those people who make
their own language and not giving importance to our language. While Filipino as a
subject has always been a part of the basic education curriculum, it remains a language
that is not used by all students.
We should be proud that we have our own language. It is the very important thing
because if no language we have no communication and unity. We have more time to
change and back again were evey people are fuent in saying Filipino. It is very easy to
back and change just learn and read salawikain, kasabihan and pagbabasa ng
mamalalim na salita,to better show the love in our own language. If you do not want,
still every year pass we cant see that we forget little by little our language. And we are

celebrating Buwan ng Wika declared by Proclamation, was signed by former President

Fidel Ramos in 1997, declaring the annual national celebration of the National Language
Month every August. To more enhance, gave importance and never forget the filipino
language.
And my name is Mark Jeff M. Fenol, Thank you for listening on my Speech.
