GRID INTERFACE BOOST RECTIFIER PROVIDING DC

CONTROLLED VOLTAGE DEDICATED TO AC TRACTION

AUXILIARY SUPPLY AND MOTOR APPLICATION
ABSTRACT

A new topology of an AC boost rectifier that is used to draw the sinusoidal

current from single phase overhead traction supply system through single phase
transformer delivering 50Hz voltage depending on traction technology. The AC
boost rectifier means that it operates as power factor correction. The topology of
the boost rectifier system is modification of Warsaw and Vienna rectifier but it
is adapted to two phase system. The boost rectifier delivers two DC stabilized
voltages that are dedicated to supply 3 levels DC/AC converter.
EXISTING METHOD

Warsaw or Vienna rectifier method

transformer based boosting method is implemented
PROPOSED METHOD

The paper presents new topology of two phase boost rectifier

supplied from wind power for wind power maximum generation
The boost rectifier is dedicated to locomotive auxiliary supply
system.
The new topology is achieved by modification of Warsaw or
Vienna rectifier.
There are discussion of basic states of the boost rectifier supported
by equivalent diagrams and equations.
The boost rectifier provides two DC symmetrical voltages
dedicated to supply three- level DC/AC converter.

RECTIFIER)

Warsaw Rectifier Notes

The Warsaw Rectifier is a unidirectional three-phase three-switch two-level Pulse-width
modulation (PWM) rectifier. In this topology three transistors and eighteen diodes are used.
Bidirectional switches (made as four diodes and one transistor cicruit) are connected in delta
topology.
The main advantages of this topology:
Unity power factor
Three-wire input, no connection to neutral required
Simple control scheme
Low power losses

Vienna Rectifier Notes

The Vienna Rectifier is a unidirectional three-phase three-switch three-level Pulse-width
modulation (PWM) rectifier. It can be seen as a three-phase diode bridge with an integrated
boost converter

These include:
Telecommunications power supplies
Uninterruptable power supplies
Input stages of AC-drive converter systems

Proposed Boost rectifier

Auxiliary power source has to produce high quality AC sinusoidal three phase voltage that is
expected to supply symmetrical and asymmetrical single phase loads. To fulfil this
specification, and for safety purpose, a stiff neutral zero potential is required. An example of
single leg of the AC Boost Rectifier (ACBR) providing sinusoidal input AC current and two
DC stabilized symmetrical voltages
