Destiny Bonds 3
Your mind is your playdough

Undesirable behavior: Student using language that is not uplifting language towards themselves or others
such as I cant, I wont, This is too hard, Im stupid and etc...
Desirable behavior: Students and teacher will using positive self-talk such as I can, I will, I may not
know how to do it but, I can try, I did it and etc
Types of positive reinforcements:
1. Immediate R+: the student will be able to earn up to 3 paper clips, throughout the day when to teacher
hears the student using positive self-talk to themselves or others. Such as great/good job, You do it,
I did it, we did it, etc
2. Ongoing R+: for every 30 paper clips that the classrooms earns as a whole, students can turn them in to
collect playdough, sticky notes or colored pencils to complete for the interactive activity
3. Your mind is you playdough
4. Throughout the day students can earn up to 3 paper clips (by teachers discretion) for hearing a student
using positive self-talk such as Great/good job, I did it, I can, we will etc.. Once the teacher
have given the required instructions to complete the task at hand, he/she can walk around the room
giving students their paperclips and a quick explanation on why they received one. For the Ongoing
reinforcement for every 30 paperclips earned students may combined their paperclips and turn them in
for one of the materials needed to complete the interactivity.

Interactive learning activity Your mind is you playdough: By using this activity students are taught that
they are the masters of their thoughts. They have the power to program their minds for feeling good, for
feeling calm and relaxed whenever they want to. How this activity will work is students will receive a
mound of play dough of any color. Students will from the playdough into a smooth rounded surface (which
will now serve as their brain). Once students have completed that step the teacher will place paperclips and
small sticky notes on each group table. Students will then be instructed to grab as many paper clips as they
like to place into their brains, students will then be asked to write positive comments on the sticky note
for each paperclip placed in their brain. And once completed students will then be asked to share what
they placed on their brain.
How I will teach desired behaviors: Teacher will verbal explain what is expected of the students, teachers
will then model what is expected of students such as you guys did an awesome job answering these
questions (I do), teacher and students will then engage in positive self-talk as a whole class such as I know
I can do it because, Im smart! (We do) and finally the teacher will reinforce students for using positive
self-talk on their own (you do).
How I will teach the plan:
1. Teacher will explain what positive self-talk
2. Teacher will model what positive self-talk is and how it sounds
3. Teacher will explain what the goal is and how it will be reached (the interactive activity)
4. Students who are caught using positive self-talk by the teacher will receive a paper clip as
reinforcement
5. 30 stickers = a material needed to obtain a for the interactive activity, students will need a combined
total of 90 paperclips to receive the activity
Options: One option I could change is the activity, instead of using your mind is your playdough I could use
the positive self-talk shield, it blocks negative comments from students because the shield is filled with

positive thoughts that the student has placed on the shield. Another option could be to change the activity
once more and have the students role play what they perceive as positive self-talk and negative self-talk,
having a class discussion on when they feel is an appropriate time to use positive and or negative self-talk.
Materials needed: paper clips (reinforcements), playdough, color pencils and sticky notes
