Dear Governor Ong:

The CATARMAN CHESS CLUB plans to invite Filipino Grand Master and National Masters to
conduct chess clinic and simultaneous chess competition to nonrated chess players in our province,
Catarman Northern Samar on April 16 17, 2016.
The Club which is composed of former varsity team members, coach of University of Eastern
Philippines (UEP) and other enthusiasts in the province would like to promote the spirit of
sportsmanship among our youth through chess Mr. Darwin B. Deluna, a chess enthusiast, now a
Philippine Army Colonel and a teammate of these would be visitor, vouches for the latters
willingness to attend this event. However, their presence requires us to solicit to raise the amount of
Php 83,000.00. to highlight this 2-day chess event, the club will conduct an open chess tournament
from April 9 10,2016 that would be called 2016 NORTHERN SAMAR OPEN CHESS CUP.
Prizes are pegged at P20k for the Champion, P10k for the 1 st runner-up, P5k for the 2nd runner-up,
P1,000 for 3rd to 7th runner-up and P500 each to 8 th to 17th runner-up. These prizes are also herein
being sought from your good office. Minimal registration fees of P350 will be collected from the
participants for the Open Chess Cup, P50 for the chess clinic and chess simul, respectively, to cover
other expenses that maybe incurred.
Our eagerness to learn and techniques from recognized chess masters so that we can be developed
into high competitive chess players who can be at par with grandmasters and national masters can
only be realized with your support. Hence we are soliciting financial support from the Provincial
Government of Northern Samar to defray the cost of activity.
