What happens during a MUN meeting?

Open the meeting

Roll Call

- Madame Chair/Mr. Chairman calls countries

Set Agenda (= topic)

- Madame Chair/Mr. Chairman announces the agenda


- countries who want to make a speech hold up placards

Open Speaker`s List

MOTION: set a time limit for speeches


- all countries vote yes (I agree), no (I disagree) or
abstention (I won`t vote)
- over 50% = go to formal debate
- less than 50% = make a new motion, vote again

- countries come to the front to give speeches

MOTION: Informal Debate (= discussion about the agenda)


- vote
- yes = go to informal debate for set time-limit
- no = go back to formal debate (speaker`s list)

MOTION: Suspension (= stop for caucusing, lunch etc.)

- 1 country introduces the regional bloc`s resolution
- (countries vote after debate closes)
MOTION: Introduce Amendment (change part of the
resolution)
- 1 country introduces amendment
- (countries vote after debate closes)
