Sparta: War of Empires

Persian Position Calculations

This is my first attempt at modifying the spreadsheet to incorporate the changes to the position algorithm that
were made on July 7, 2015. As I currently understand the changes, every position will provided a reward. If your
deposit threshold is not met, it will be a small reward for that level. If your deposit threshold is met, it will be a
full reward. My assumption is that the deposit requirement for a full reward has not changed. However, more
work may be required to meet that deposit requirement due to the possibility of receiving multiple smaller
rewards along the way. The "Position Calc" tab has been modified to track this new system. The instructions for
the "Position Calc" tab have been updated below. At this time I have only addressed the total resource method.
am thinking about the best way to help those of you that like to use bronze/timber. Right now I am thinking that
two separate spreadsheets may be the best option.

These spreadsheets can be used to attack and defend Persian positions using the resource/bank calculation as
described in Jeff Maginniss' Solving Soldier's Inc - A Method for Farming Search & Destroy Missions guide dated 3
20-14.

The original bank+interest theory is that when you receive a reward from the Persian Positions you are setting a
"bank" of resource values. The bank is equal to the total number of resources required to build the units receive
plus any resources received. You will receive your next reward when you "pay" back the bank plus interest. The
amount paid back equals the resource value of the troops lost while attacking or defending positions.

The positions can also be viewed as a flow of deposits and withdrawals from the "bank". Your deposits are the
total resource (timber/bronze/grain) value of the troops lost and your withdrawals are the resource values of
troops and resources received as rewards. Under this theory, you will receive your next reward when the deposit
amount crosses a certain threshold that is tied to your quest level (highest offense/defense postion available). A
long as you are moving up in levels for your next reward, the bank+interest method is a good approximation, bu
if you have dropped down in levels for a reward or have deposited more than you have received over time, you
may be able to reduce your interest rate significantly.
In general, the size of your reward is tied to the level of the positon. The higher the level, the larger the reward.
There are some exceptions. A full reward will never be received on a quest position and occassional partial
payouts are also received.

This spreadsheet assumes a 10% interest value on your last full reward, but due to variabilities within the game
or your past history in the positions you may see rewards below or above that value. Be careful not to stretch
yourself too thin, always have troops in reserve in case a reward is not received when expected. If a reward is no
received when expected, you should go to the lowest position available in order to minimize losses or complete
quest position.

It is also recommended to have some partially completed positions that can be completed quickly in case you do
not receive a reward when expected.
General Tips for Persian Positions
1) Always build troops you will fall behind quickly if you don't.
2) Always make sure you are sending offensive troops to an offensive position (red positions) and
defensive troops to a defensive position (green positions)

3) Always scout - 1 javelineer for defense positions and around 1k in offensive strength for offense
positions
4) Analyze your scouting results for a victory that minimizes troop losses.
5) Any reward received on a quest position (highest off/def available) will never be a full reward. This
partial reward can now be used as a starting point to receive a full reward on the 2nd-highest
position.
6) These spreadsheets take into account any bonuses received through elixirs and dominion status.
These can be used to boost your offense and defensive strength, reducing troop loss throught the
Persian Positions.
7) It is not recommended to use Roman troops (gladiator, legionnaire, etc) for Persian positions due to
their long build time.
8) It is not recommended to use champion units on Persian Positions and they are not addressed in thi
spreadsheet.

There is also a guide available in the files section of the "Sparta War of Empires Unit Value Calculator" Facebook
group page, but the basic instructions are below.
Units Tab

This tab contains all of the unit costs and strengths and can be used to calculate the amount of resources neede
to build units and the total off/def strength of a group of units.
Only enter data into cells shaded:
Enter Temple of Demeter level in cell C3
Enter Academy ration reduction level in cell D3
In Column "H" enter current agreement level for each individual unit
In Column "I" enter the applicable elixir level for each individual unit
In Cell J11 (Swordsman) enter your active Dominion level. The rest of the units will then auto-populate.
You can calculate resource and off/def strength by entering data into cells M11:M23 (off) and U31:U41 (def)
Persian strength can be calculated using H47:H50. Remember for an offensive position you use the Persian
defensive strength and for a defensive position you use the Persian offensive strength.
Production Tab
This tab can be used as a reference for calculating unit build times.
Only enter data into cells shaded:
Enter current production rates for timber, bronze and grain in cells B3:B5 as a reference
Enter academy level for build reduction in cells I11:I23 (off) and Q31:Q41 (def).
Enter number of troops to build in cells T11:T23 (off) and AJ31:AJ41 (def) to determine time and resources
required.
Position Calc Tab
This spreadsheet utilizes the total resources method for calculating your deposits and rewards.
Only enter data into cells shaded:
There is space available for tracking 24 positions (12 off and 12 def)
Areas 1 - 12 are for offense and 13 - 24 for defense. This allows for full utilization of the tools within the
spreadsheet.
Enter level of position in row 3

If you scout, you can enter Persian units in rows 5 - 8 to calculate the total off/def you will be facing

If you do not scout, you can use the reference off/def total in row 10, which pulls data from the "Position Strengt
tab.
Scouting:
Defense - send one javelineer, total Persian troops will be reported. In general, if you defend with the largest
value of Persian troop types, you will have greater success i.e. Mounted Peltast vs Persian cavalry, T Thorakites
Persian Phalanx, etc.

Offense - You can send about 1k of offensive strength and evaluate the report to see what is most efficient. For
offensive positions you want to send the weakest Persian troop type and avoid the strongest Persian troop type.
i.e. Send S Promachos against weak in Persian Phalanx and avoid A. Horsemen against strong in Persian cavalry.

You can track the Persian troop strength by Position at the top of the tab in rows 5 - 8. The first 12 areas are for
offensive (red) Positions and the second 12 areas are for defensive (green) Positions. Tracking the Positions here
also automatically transfers the data to the Offensive and Defensive Summary tabs.

For offensive Positions you want to track the number of Persian troops killed. If you attack in multiple waves, kee
adding the number of Persian units killed in each wave.
For defensive Positions you want to track the number of Persian troops remaining. If you defend in multiple
waves, keep subtracting the number of Persian units killed in each wave.

Your troop losses are tracked in the Position Tracking Log (cells G13:O48) . You can track position level, type and
Spartan unit and losses here. This is only for tracking losses between full rewards and should be reset after
receiving a new full reward.
The total resources lost from the units will be calculated in cell L48.
When you receive a reward, enter the unit types and numbers and resources in the Reward Tracking Log (cells
N28:AC58). Continue to track losses and rewards until you receive a full reward.

The orange-shaded analysis cells in the Reward Tracking Log can assist in determining if your reward is a "full"
reward. The maximum reward for each level will be pulled into the table and compared to your current reward. M
assumption would be that if your current reward is 90% or greater of the max reward that is a "full" reward.

After receiving a "full" reward, hard enter the Reward Value from column AG for the full reward into Cell S17 of th
Bank/Reward section and hard enter the Bronze/Timber Reward Value from Cell V45 into Cell U18 of the
Bank/reward section. This will be the baseline for your next effort.

After receiving a full reward, delete all of the information in the yellow shaded cells from the Position Tracking Lo
and Reward Tracking Log and start again.
The % interest is listed in cells P18. The default is 10%, but can be changed if desired.
The Reward Value plus Interest is displayed in cell P19. This is the estimated deposit threshold you are trying to
meet to get your next reward.

The deposit remaining, cell P21 is a running total calculated by subtracting all of the resource value lost through
troop losses from the original Reward + Interest and adding back the reward value from the small rewards. Whe
this total reaches zero you should receive your next reward.

There is a solo unit analysis section in cells A15:C41. This is the number of solo units by Spartan troop type
required to complete the reward. These numbers will adjust as your deposit remaining number changes through
troop losses and rewards.

Note for Offensive/Defensive Calc and Summary tabs: These calculations are only for troops that you can build
with timber/bronze/grain and do not include any troops that are built with denarii. Denarii troops are too time
consuming to build in mass quantities to be truly effective in the positions. If you do choose to use them, they a
included in the Position Calc tab. For offensive denarii troops you can use the estimated strength by unit class to
estimate the number of troops required. i.e. Gladiator use estimated light infantry strength, Legionnaire use
estimated heavy infantry strength, etc. For defensive denarii troops, the Veles and Triarius are balanced across
classes so the estimated strength required will be the strength of the Persian force. I can't think of a single reas
why you would want to use large quantities of Legates in the positions so you are on your own for them.

Offense Calc Tab


This tab can be used to minimize troop losses and analyze scouting results for a single offensive position.
Instructions are located on the "Offense Calc" Tab.
You can utilize the offensive calc as a worksheet, but, if you use the top portion of the Position Calc tab to track
your Positions, a summary of each offensive position is also contained on the "Offensive Summary" tab.
Offensive Summary Tab

If you utilize the first 12 areas at the top of the "Position Calc" tab for offensive Positions, this tab summarizes th
estimated strength and solo units required to complete each offensive Position.
In order to have a more accurate estimate, make sure the Units tab has the correct agreement, elixir, and active
dominion levels for each unit.
The top portion contains the summary for each position and the bottom portion contains the breakdown for each
position.
There is also an strength efficiency calculation for each troop type. Greater than 1 is more efficient, less than 1 i
less efficient than the normal unit strength.

Defense Calc Tab

This tab can be used to calculate solo units required for defensive positions and this is the calculation used in th
"Defensive Summary" tab.

The only information required is the number of remaining Persian units in column B. If your agreement, elixir, an
dominion levels are updated on the Units tab, the estimated number of solo Spartan units required to complete
the position will be calculated in row 18.
Reward Tabs

These tabs can be used to track rewards and Persian strength on the reward level. After a reward is received the
information should be transferred to this tab. Only enter information into the yellow shaded cells.

There are two Reward tabs, one for the total resource Reward Value and one for the timber/bronze Reward Value

Transfer all of the available information from the Position Calc tab to the Reward tabs once you receive a reward

will transfer to the Bronze-Timber tab except for the Resource Spent column. That information will need to be
manually entered as well.

The orange-shaded columns of the Reward tabs can be used to analyze the reward value compared to the
resource value of the troops lost, both between the two most recent rewards and over time. In general, if you ar
depositing more resources than you are receiving as rewards you will have to deposit less to get your next
reward.

A negative number in the reward - resources spent column means you have deposited more resources than you
received as a reward. A positive number means you received more resources than you deposited. In general, if
your recent activity shows more resources deposited than received as rewards you can lower your interest rate o
the amount of resources you need to deposit before your next reward.
Campaign Missions

This tab can be used to estimate and track progress for the Campaign Missions. It contains a table of estimated
Persian strength for each level and a stand alone offense and defense calculator for the campaign missions.

Remember that the campaign missions are balanced across all classes so there is no efficiency to be gained with
the type of troops you use. In general, it is best to use heroes and lvl 20 troops for the missions.
Position Strength Tab
This tab is a summary of the total Persian off/def strength by position level.
The totals are referenced in row 10 of the "Position Calc" tab when you select the position level in row 3.

Known troop strength, from scouting or position results, can be entered into the tables on the right. The average
strength is calculated on the left.
Reward Value Tabs

Similar to the Position Strength tab, these tabs can be used to summarize the Reward Values per Level and can
used as a reference to see if you are receiving a full or a partial reward. These are also the values that are pulled
into the Reward Tracking Log on the "Position Calc" tab as a comparison value to see if you are receiving a "full"
reward.

Persian Position Calculations

There is also a guide available in the files section of the "Sparta War of Empires Unit Value Calculator" Facebook
group page. Some of the information in the guide may be outdated, but the general principles remain the same.

This spreadsheet contains two methods of calculating your bank - total resources and timber/bronze (which
excludes the grain value of Spartan units when calculating the bank). The total resource method is the standard
method, but the option is here to try both methods.
For all tabs, only enter information in cells highlighted:

There is one exception to this rule. It can be helpful to enter the position type and distance (i.e. stronghold,
caravan, temple, etc.) in row 1 of the "Position Calc" tab in order to avoid confusion with multiple positions of th
same level and type.)
If you are a first-time user of this spreadsheet, here are some recommended initial steps to get started on
tracking and completing Persian Positions.

1) "Units" tab - Enter your agreement level for each troop type in Column "H"
2) "Units" tab - Enter your elixir level for each troop type in Column "I" (as an example, if you have lev
4 elixirs for all troop types and swap them out as needed when sending troops at a Position enter "4
for all of the elixir levels)
3) "Units" tab - Enter your active Dominion level in cell J11. If no Dominion status is active enter "0" in
cell J11.
4) If you have information on your last reward (level, troops and resources), calculate your reward
value. There are two ways to calculate the reward value:
a. "Position Calc" tab - Enter your reward information into the Reward Tracking column
(Cells - R34:44) . The "Reward Value" value in cell R45 is your new Reward Value and
should be entered in cell S18 on the "Position Calc" tab.

b. "Reward - Total Resources" tab - Enter your reward information into row 9. Your Reward
Value will be calculated in cell P9. Manually enter that number into cell S18 on the
"Position Calc" tab.
5) If you don't know your last reard (level, troops and resources), complete positions until you receive
one and calculate your bank using the instruction above.
6) Start building the information in the "Position Calc" tab.
a. Enter all of the Position levels available from the Oracle in row 3. Use Areas 1 - 12 for
offensive positions and areas 13 - 24 for defensive positions.
b. Enter any information known about the Persian troops (type and number) at each
position from previous scouting activities or attacks on Positions.

c. Scout unknown positions - send 1 javelineer to each unknown defensive position and
enter the Persian troop information in rows 5 - 8; send 1 offensive cavalry or phalanx to
the offensive positions and enter the information in rows 5 - 8. If you are working on
levels below 20, you can send around 10% of the estimated Persian strength with any
mix of troops.
Example

6) Determine a target position (offense or defense and level) for a rewad. Typically, you want to keep
moving up in levels gradually, this will give you increased rewards while preventing you from gettin
too far ahead of yourself.

7) Utilize the information in the "Offensive Summary" and "Defensive Summary" tabs and your
available troops to determine how you want to approach your target mission. Things to consider ar

a. You may want to eliminate a quest position first (highest off/def available). You will
always receive a reduced reward on a quest position (which isn't necessarily a bad
thing).
b. You may want to set up a backup position or positions, leaving only a few Persian troop
at a same or similar level to your target position.

c. If a Global Quest is active, you may want to complete as many positions as possible. If
Global Quest is not active, you may want to get as many positions close to completion
as possible.
8) Once you have a plan, start sending troops at your targeted positions, tracking all information on
troops lost in the Position Tracking Log and Persian strength at each position in the "Position Calc"
tab. Some things to consider are:
a. If you send troops in multiple waves at a position, remember to keep adding (for
offensive positions) or subtracting (for defensive positions) the number of Persian troop
for each wave in the Persian Unit section of each position.
b. Do not erase any of the information in the troop loss column until you have received a
payout.
c. If you complete a postion without receiving a reward and want to start tracking a new
position, you can erase the Persian troops and start tracking the new position
9) As you scout defensive positions or complete offensive positions you can enter the total Persian
troop strength from row 9 of the "Position Calc" tab into the appropriate row on the "Persian
Strength" tab.
10) Rewards can also be entered and tracked on the "Reward Summary" tabs. If all rewards and
information are entered here, you will get a feel for what will be needed for your next payout.
