Year 9 Small Business Enterprise

Assessment Task 5

Starting up a Business Small Business Plans (ACHEK041)

40%

This term we will be learning how to start up our own business from the
ground up. Most business first start out as a very small idea that
gradually grows. If enough thought and planning goes into a business
idea, it can eventually develop into a planned business venture.
This assessment is a group task in which you are required to form groups
of 3 and start up your own business. In order to gain investor support you
will need to put forward a business plan, which is a document that shows
investors what your business and product is all about. Business plans are
a legal document that all businesses are required to present if they wish
to gain financial support from investors and the government.
We will use the simplified business plan template and learn about each
section of a business plan every lesson. Our business plans will have the
following five sections:
1. Business profile
This section includes all of the basic information about a business
including the name of its founders, ABN number, logo, slogan and
address, and the future goals of the business.
2. Product and Service Overview
This section details in depth what products the business is offering.
There must be pictures and diagrams that visually depict what the
business aims to sell.
3. SWOT Analysis
This section alerts investors about the business key strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities they can capitalize on, and any threats to
the business success. This section provides investors with a good
idea as to how successful the business might be.

4. Market Research
This section details all of the research that goes into understanding
how the business will react to its target market and competition. The
business must show that it is aware of any competing products in
the market, and who their product is targeted at.
5. Marketing Plan
This section gives a brief overview as to how they will address their
marketing strategy. Marketing plans detail the 4Ps of marketing, and
examples of marketing strategies must be provided.

THE TASK
You are required to form a group of 3 or 4 and construct an ethical
product or line of products (e.g. different clothing, or lollies).
You will come up with a business name, logo and slogan, and your
business must demonstrate a corporate social responsibility focus (be
environmentally and socially aware of giving back to the community).
You are required to devise a business plan with the discussed 5 sections
(which will be completed in class time).
You must use 3 different types of technology to market your product
websites, print media, and sound. Therefore, you must use Wix.com to
make an online shop for your product, Canva.com to make a digital flyer,
and Soundation.com to make a jingle.
The task is broken down into:
a.)
The Business Plan Document which must be completed in
Microsoft Word (with at least half a page per section) using the
template provided on the website.
b.)
The Website, which details the business and what it does, and
how meets its corporate social responsibility. This is where you
upload pictures and images of your business product, price and
promotional material (get creative here and think outside of the
box). The website must have an Home page, About page, Product
page and Contact page. The About page should detail the business
commitment to corporate social responsibility.
c.)The Promotional Flyer, it must promote the product and can be
linked to a promotional event or a sale on the product.
d.)
The Jingle, which must be playable on the radio and go for at
least 1 minute in length.

Due date: Task 5 is due in Week 2 of Term 4. You

will have ample time allocated in class to complete
all components of this task.
Please see the attached marking guide for a
breakdown of the marks.
