CALCULATION OF SETTINGS

1.1.2.1

Current differential settings

kZ1_angle 7.74 deg

2 terminal
Differential protection configuration (I DIFF CONFIG) : Scheme set-up:
The relay has a dual slope percentage bias characteristic defined by the following settings :
IS1 : basic current differential setting
Range : IS1m 0.2in

IS1M 2in

IS1step 0.05in

k1 : percentage bias setting used when the bias current is below I S2

Range :

k1m 30%

k1M 150%

k1step 5%

IS2 : basic current threshold setting above which a higher percentage k 2 is required
Range :

IS2m 1in

IS2M 30in

IS2step 2in

k2 : percentage bias setting used when the bias current is below I S2

Range :

k2m 30%

k2M 150%

k2step 5%

These settings affect both the relay sensivity and line CT requirement.
To simplify the setting selection, the relay manufacturer strongly recommends the following sett
(already set on the relay as "default settings") :
IS2 2.0 in

IS2 2 A

k1 30 %

k2 150 %

These settings result in a relay characteristic suitable for most applications.

Determination of IS1 setting
The minimum operating current of the relay is related to-: IS1 setting
- k1 setting
- through load current level
The IS1 setting is generally set to above 2.5 times the value of the steady state line
charging current in order to allow :
- transient in-rush current during line energization
- increasing in capacitive current caused by -: overvoltage during normal load
- external fault conditions

RELAY'S SETTING

I Cap Correction (ICC) is Disabled.

Inrush restraint : Disabled as the relay is used on a sort of out zone transformer feeder.
(line directly connected to the 150kV Mine).
1.1.2.2

Timers settings
Permissive intertrip timer (PIT)
This timer is set to allow normal fault clearance at the line end (including breaker
operating and arc extinguishing times) initiating the permissive intertrip command with
allowance for signalling and security checking times taken for this command.
Typical taken time : 25 ms (50Hz) & 21 ms (60Hz)
PIT range : PITm 0ms

Communication settings
Channel propagation delay tolerance ( CDT)
PDT range
:
PDTm 0.25ms

PDTM 1ms PDTs 0.05ms

PDT actual setting : PDT 0.25ms to be set at site depending on propagation conditions
It should be increased if propagation delay time is expected to vary.
(use of microwave link multiple repeaters)
Communication failure time (CFT)
CFT range
:
CFTm 0.1sec

CFTM 10secCFTs 0.1sec

CFT actual setting : CFT 10sec

CFT is set in order to avoid the two following depending alarms affection by communication
link short bursts of noises or interruptions : - Communication supervision alarm
- Protection scheme inoperative alarm
Communication fail mode (CFM)
This has to be set depending on the number of channels chosen : 1 or 2.
The relay allows for this mode : Channel 1, Channel 2 or Channel 1+2 which is the default
setting.

The protection neeed a clock source which is required to synchronise data transmission
between the line ends. Use of multiplexer equipment requires the use of an external clock
source.
