CAUSE AND EFFECT USING PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS


Introduction 1
Definition : Psychoactive drugs are substances that can change the consciousness, mood,
and thoughts of those who take them. They include legal drugs, such as tobacco and
alcohol; and illicit drugs, such as marijuana, cannabis, amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine,
and heroin.

Past and present : In the past, psychoactive drugs users was quiete rare. But, today,
quantity of psychoactive drugs users are increasing and the majority of psychoactive
drugs users are over 17th years old.

Thesis : This essay will examine the causes of using psychoactive drugs and the effect
for psychoactive drugs users and their surrounding.
Causes of using psychoactive drugs :
1. Curiosity Youth are more curious nowadays. They try it just for fun.
2. Friend Pressure Youth are only trying things because of their friends. Youth are afraid if
their friends keep away from them.
3. Family Background Youth are trying out this just because they knew already about it
through their parents or relatives.
4. Environment Youth are affected not only through their friends but also through their
environment. Their environment captures their minds on using psychoactive drugs.
5. Mental illness
6. Low self-esteem

Effects of using psychoactive drugs :
Health Effects :

Weaken the immune system, increasing susceptibility to infections.

Cause cardiovascular conditions ranging from abnormal heart rate to heart attacks.
Injected drugs can also lead to collapsed veins and infections of the blood vessels and
heart valves.

Cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

It makes liver work harder, possibly causing significant damage or liver failure.

Cause seizures, stroke and widespread brain damage that can impact all aspects of daily
life by causing problems with memory, attention and decision-making, including
sustained mental confusion and permanent brain damage.

Produce global body changes such as breast development in men, dramatic fluctuations in
appetite and increases in body temperature, which may impact a variety of health
conditions.

Big risks for pregnant woman who consume psychoactive drugs. Some of these drugs can
cause a baby to be born too small or too soon, or to have withdrawal symptoms, birth
defects or behavioral problems.

Definition/Summary :
In conclusion, using psychoactive drugs is a serious problem with big effect for users and
their surround.
Future
if no one who educates and give a knowledge for youth and adult about the dangerous of
using psychoactive drugs, we will building up trouble for youth, adult and society, and
the quantity of psychoactive drugs users always increase.
