Editors Column
Here we are, in the year 2016, a year in which we in America will be called upon to
elect a new president of the United States. Because of the very unusual
circumstances in which we find ourselves this year, I have taken a great interest in
the political process, the candidates themselves and how they are going about their
attempts at getting elected to our nations highest office and the most powerful
position in the entire world. The candidates talk and talk and talk, telling great big
lies, saying wonderful things about themselves and trashing the opposition. They
make grandiose promises about what they will do as the next president, with no real
prospect of any of these promises ever coming to fruition. Millions and millions and
more millions of dollars are solicited as donations, and are then spent to finance the
candidates campaigning, a nice term for manure production. What a huge waste!
There is an answer to all this Blah Blah Blah to which the American public is being
subjected, and nobody understands this answer better than we learned members of
the SFBOTA. The answer is: Baseball!! In the primary process, the respective parties
that want to put forth a candidate for POTUS will participate in a draft, picking major
league ballplayers and composing a team of 25 players. Then there will be a
tournament, kinda like the World Baseball Classic. As teams get beaten as the
tournament goes on, the losing political parties are done until the next presidential
election year. Finally well be down to two teams, and the winning teams party gets
the White House for four years.

Just think how much fun that would be for baseball fans! And for the American
public, we will be spared the incessant BS. And the money that would ordinarily be
spent on this nonsense could be used to feed the hungry, house the homeless, find
cures for deadly diseases, and provide better schools for the kids! There it is---you
heard it first here! Imagine, Alfred E. Neuman of the Regurgitation Party gets to be
President because the #4 hitter of the Doo Dah Party struck out with the bases
jammed in the bottom of the 9th in Game Seven! What a concept!!
A Serious Moment
In last months edition, we mentioned the idea of becoming Old Timers vs.
Alzheimers and doing what we can to help in the battle against this cruel and
merciless disease. The SFBOTA Officers and Board of Directors have a plan! At the
monthly dinner meeting, on the table at which raffle tickets are sold, well have a
clearly marked can. As you buy your raffle tickets, you can kick a buck or two or five
into the can. The money will be collected, deposited into the SFBOTA account, and
a check will be sent to the Alzheimers Association on behalf of the Old Timers. It
will add up in the fight against this brutal illness.
Help SFBOTA Save Money!!
In recent editions we have asked for as many members as possible to sign up to
receive this bulletin by e-mail rather than by conventional mail. We are now at 75
members, a savings of over $100 to the SFBOTA. The July mailing expense was still
about $400. Well never get to 100% e-mail because a whole bunch of our members
do not have e-mail and never will. Thats very understandable. But if you have email, send me a message at insplfl225@hotmail.com and well put you on the list. If
for some reason you try it and dont like it, well put you back on the snail mail list.

Golf News---Upcoming Events

the re-modeled and highly acclaimed version of the former Lew Galbreath Golf
Course. Good golf course, great group of guys playing. Be there!
September 6, 2016, starting at 9:00 AM---San Jose Municipal Golf Course. Its a fun
golf course, and the late summer weather in San Jose will shave several strokes off
your game!
September 26, 2016, a shotgun start at 8:30 AM---Peacock Gap in San Rafael. This is
the first of 3 events that will determine the club championship.
***We are saddened to have to report that the July 15 outing at Bennett Valley,
historically a very popular venue among SFBOTA golfers and guest, was cancelled by
the Honorable Rich Ford, Commissioner of Golf and Sausage Making, because of a
lack of players. Hmmmmm. Lets hope that this is an isolated occurrence and not
the start of a disturbing trend. Rich works hard to plan and administer these events
which provide a great way for SFBOTA members to get together and have some fun.
On the Mend
Im sorry to note a lengthy list of our Members on the DL this month. Bob Martinez,
Rich Blackburn, Bill Kennaugh, Don Benedetti, Charlie Silvera, Clarence Grider, Terry
Roach, Don Collopy, Jerry Big Sully Sullivan and Hal Fox---All these great guys are
spending time in the Trainers Room, and the Old Timers wish each and every one of
these honorable Members a speedy and complete recovery.
SFBOTAs Website
Just a reminder, courtesy of Fellow Old Timer and sponsor Kris Kimball, SFBOTA has
a website which is at www.sfbot.net Take a look! Its great!! Thank you, Kris.
You Know Youre an Old Timer When
---the gleam in your eye is the sun shining through your bifocals.
---you turn out the lights in your bedroom for economy, not romance.
---you sit in your rocking chair and cant get it going.
---you throw a party and your neighbors dont realize it.
Overheard
Bobby Mitchell went camping with his great friend, Nick Poppin. One night after
dinner, Bobby answered Natures Nightly Call and went into a nearby outhouse. Nick
heard Bobby cursing a lot, after which Bobby came out and told Nick that as he was
pulling up his pants, a quarter fell out of his pocket and into the hole. Then Bobby
asked Nick for a $20 bill. Nick, quite puzzled, asked Bobby Why do you want a $20
bill? And Bobby said to Nick You seriously dont think Im reaching down into that
hole for just a quarter, do you? Nick wouldnt shake hands with Bobby for a week.

A Special Word of Thanks

The SFBOTA would like to extend a special and heart-felt Thank You to the Griffin
Family for all the work they have done through the years to promote and organize
the yearly Joe Sprinz Day, which features the kids and grandkids of Old Timers being
hosted by the SFBOTA. Al Griffin was instrumental in starting this grand tradition,
and Jim Griffin did a bang-up job in continuing this fun event. To the Griffin Family
