FLIGHT DECK
CHAPTER MEETING - 6 PM
Monday, August 22nd 2016
Located at:
8891 Airport Rd NE
Blaine, MN 55449
It was a great honor for Chapter 237 being named the first
ever AirVenture (2016) Chapter Grand Champion at
the Chapter leadership breakfast! This award may have
started out as a fun way to get more members from other
chapters involved, but we took it seriously. Chapter 237
would like to believe that volunteering was also an important parameter!!
During AirVenture, and the week prior, Chapter 237
had 37 members volunteering in 13 areas and worked a
grand total of 1,296 hours!!! I am so proud, and lucky, to
be associated with such a great group of dedicated, motivated, talented, and the nicest people that truly do share
in the Spirit of Aviation!!
Chapter 237 will definitely be back next year to defend our
title with more of everything, including a cooler 237
(Cont. Page 6)
"bivouac"!
While the EAA Maker Edition license does not include technical support services, EAA members will
also receive guest membership to MySolidWorks,
which provides introductory lessons, (Cont. Page 7)

Some pretty big numbers! Additionally our highest Gas/Electric bill last winter was $279 for ONE
month. Add in Name Tags, Printing, Air Academy (cost for giving kids this opportunity, we pay about half),
Hanger supplies( Trash bags, plates, plasticware, project hardware and tools), food for our events (PCB, Meetings, Movie Night, Builders Bash, Snacks and beverages in the hanger), AirVenture Campsites(4)and more add
a lot to our expenses.
When I became Treasurer in 2012 I got the Checkbook, some bank statements and a pile of receipts.
When I was able to piece together 2011's expenses it was apparent we were bleeding money and we had to liquidate one of three Certificates of Deposits to cover expenses. Since then we managed to cut expenses and with
our "donations" increasing, we have had a stable checkbook balance for the last few years.
I'm a bit concerned that is changing as our checking account balance is down about $1,000. Obviously
we want to minimize expenses such as making sure we cover the expense of the campsites at AirVenture, turn
the lights off and the thermostat down, and make a donation whenever we consume or use something that the
Chapter supplied. (Coffee for me! No Mark H, its not "free").
Hope this helps all of you understand a little more about Chapter 237's finances. If you think of anything we forgot already and need from the Hanger, let Kirk F, Curt S or me know!

August, 2016
AirVenture is now behind us and was absolutely inspiring! As Kirk has compiled volunteer hours, I'm
tasked with the money side. I think there was some misunderstanding about camping and wristbands.
The group that went out the week before got free camping through AirVenture. This got Chapter 237 8
campsites free and we paid for 4 additional campsites at a cost of $972 ( 4 sites for 9 days at $27/day). Wristbands were free for the early volunteers and we tried to use them wisely for any extra people to get in.
Bottom line is, if you camped with the chapter and were not one of the volunteers that went out a week
early, you owe the Chapter $25 for each night you were camping. So far I have received only $560 from various individuals. We operate on the honor system so if you camped, pay your fair share.

WHERE:
It gave people this big boost of we can do this, we can band together and win this war, said Chris Henry, EAAs museum programs
representative. It was the first taste of victory for America.
EAAs B-25 played three roles in the aviation classic film, Catch 22,
starring as The Berlin Express, the generals airplane, and one of the
syndicates. In addition to the airplanes current restoration, EAA
will be returning its B-25 to the Berlin Express paint scheme it wore
in the film.
What makes the history of the B-25 even more special is that many
were built by Rosie the Riveter women and then transported by the
women of WASP from factories to bases.
During the war everybody
pulled together to do their part
to defeat the Axis, Henry
said. Even if you werent in
the military you were still
fighting the war in your own
way, whether it was in a factory, whether it was at home
with a victory garden, whether
it was war rations, anything
like that, everyone fought in World War II.
He said through volunteer work and the gathering of donations, the B-25 restoration project hopes to evoke the World War II spirit of people coming together to
reach a common goal.
This volunteer work is done by your fellow chapter members. Thanks to the
team, and if you would like to join them the chapter will be having future work
parties.
