Textbook: BSCS Science: An Inquiry Approach Cost to replace:
Course Content:
1st quarter: Nature of science/scientific method, Chemistry, Cell Structure and
Function
2nd quarter: Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis, DNA, Cell reproduction
3rd quarter: Genetics, Evolution
4th quarter: Classification and Body systems
Materials needed: Pencils, pens, paper, folder/binder.
Grade breakdown:
15% Homework
Homework will include readings, handouts, note-taking, watching videos on
Youtube, etc.
25% Quizzes
30% Tests
Advance notice and study guides will be given.
30% Labs/ Daily Assignments
Extra Credit
15% will be given on lowest test grade every grading period. Extra credit points are
taken away with behavior disciplines, and every time you use the bathroom pass.
Additional Grading Procedures:
Assignments must be submitted to basket for grading on time.
Assignments missed due to an excused absence may be made up within 1 week.
It is the students responsibility to ask the teacher for missed assignments.
Non-participation and cheating will result in a zero and disciplinary action.
Grades are recorded online and papers are given back to the student for studying
and review.
Classroom procedures:
The following briefly outlines general procedures. Students should follow additional
guidelines given at the beginning of the year and throughout the year.
a) Students should arrive to class and be prepared for class before the tardy
bell. (Note - Students will receive a referral on their 4 tardy and for each tardy
thereafter.)
b) Students should remain on task during class time - writing down all lecture
notes,
attempting all practice problems, participating in group work,
etc.
c) Students should remain in their assigned seats until the end of class.
d) Students should leave their desks cleans and put away their books at the
end of class.

Classroom expectations:
1. Respect all students, teachers, staff, and school property.
2. Be inside the classroom, in your assigned seat, and taking out materials
prior to the tardy bell.
3. Be prepared with appropriate class materials.
4. Keep all food out of the classroom, including gum and candy.
5. Hats and hoods must be removed from your head inside the classroom.
6. Cell phones / headphones that are seen or heard in class will result in
disciplinary action.
Failure to comply with the above expectations will result in the following
course of disciplinary action.
1 offense - Warning
2 offense - Student/Teacher conference (and confiscation of item if applicable)
3 offense - Lunch detention and parent contact
4 offense - Disciplinary referral and parent contact
*Note - Teacher will skip any of the above steps for severe behavior violations.*

Academic Integrity
Academic integrity violations can include plagiarism, cheating, and unauthorized
group work on any assignment, project, or test.
If a student is caught, the following will occur:

The student will receive an F with zero credit.

The citizenship grade will be lowered for the grading period.

A notice will be recorded with the guidance office.


Any occurrence of academic dishonesty may be reported by the guidance office on
college admissions applications.
Leon Tutoring Services (National Honor Society)
If you need help with any subject, including biology, National Honor Society offers
tutoring on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday in 302 after 6th and 7th periods.
