7. (U) PERU: On 14 July, eight robbers boarded the cruise ship AMAZON DISCOVERY, and robbed the
passengers of approximately $26,000 in personal equipment and cash. The ship, with 30 passengers, had
departed the port of Iquitos the previous day on a tour of the Amazon River. (www.dailymail.com)

1. (U) MALTA: EU authorities are concerned that the general cargo ship FALKVAG has apparently disappeared.
The ship is suspected of involvement in arms smuggling to Libya. There has been no locating data on the ship,

6. (U) GHANA: On 26 July, a robber armed with a knife in a small boat boarded a berthed offshore tug near position
04:54 N - 001:45 W, Sekondi Naval Berth, Takoradi. Deck crew noticed the robber, raised the alarm and
approached the robber. Seeing the approaching crew, the robber escaped. A search was conducted and ships
property was reportedly stolen. Port control informed. (IMB)
7. (U) NIGERIA: On 24 July, three robbers in a small boat boarded a berthed tanker near position 06:26 N - 003:19
E, Capital Terminal Berth, Lagos. An armed guard on security rounds noticed the robber and raised the alarm.
Hearing the alarm and seeing crews alertness, the robber escaped with his accomplices. A thorough search
conducted and nothing reported stolen. Incident reported to naval authorities and terminal PFSO. (IMB)
8. (U) NIGERIA: On 18 July, suspected militants bombed a major pipeline intersection operated by the Pipelines
and Products Marketing Company at Batan near Warri. No group has claimed responsibility but the Niger Delta
Avengers has claimed a wave of bombings of oil and gas facilities since the beginning of the year. (AFP World

9. (U) CONGO: On 17 July, a robber armed with a knife boarded an anchored pipe laying barge near position
04:47 S - 011:47 E, Pointe Noire Anchorage. Duty crewman on routine rounds noticed the robber and informed the
bridge. Alarm raised and crew mustered. Seeing the crews alertness, the robber jumped overboard and escaped.
A search was carried out and it was reported that ship's stores were stolen. Incident reported to local port control.

10. (U) CONGO: On 16 July, robbers in a fishing canoe boarded an anchored pipe laying barge near position 04:44
S - 011:48 E, Pointe Noire Outer Anchorage. Duty crewman on routine rounds noticed the robbers and raised the
alarm. Seeing the alerted crew, the robbers escaped with stolen ships stores. Incident reported to port control.

1. (U) RED SEA: On 22 July, sixteen men in two skiffs armed with assault rifles and an RPG approached cable
layer vessel installing cable at 0.5 knots, near position 13:37 N - 042:35 E and fired shots. Alarm raised, distress
call made and non-essential crew retreated to the citadel. UKMTO and a warship acknowledged the urgent calls
made by the Master. The armed security team onboard the cable layer vessel fired warning shots resulting in the

6. (U) INDONESIA: On 28 July, six robbers armed with knives boarded a berthed product tanker near position
01:45 N - 101:22 E, SDS Terminal Lubuk Gaung. The robbers entered the engine room and took hostage the duty
oiler and third engineer. The robbers then stole ships spare parts and the third engineers personal effects and
escaped. Incident reported to the port control. (IMB)
7. (U) INDONESIA: On 24 July, three robbers in a small wooden motor boat approached and boarded an anchored
bulk carrier near position 00:13 S - 117:33 E, Samarinda Anchorage. Duty crewman on routine rounds noticed the
robbers and raised the alarm. Seeing the crews alertness, the robbers escaped with stolen ships stores. A search
was carried out throughout the ship. Incident reported to port control and the port police arrived at the location for

8. (U) THAILAND: On 24 July, Thai authorities arrested four men and impounded a tanker, NISARA, carrying
120,000 liters of stolen crude oil. The suspects were caught while loading the crude oil at a pier in Maha Chai River

9. (U) VIETNAM: On 22 July, Vietnam Coast Guard personnel inspected and arrested a tanker from Thailand that
was illegally selling fuel to fishing boats. The ship, TAKUZAN 111, was caught 160 nautical miles southeast off
Cape Ca Mau, with 260,000 liters of illegal fuel. (www.thanhniennews.com)
10. (U) MALAYSIA: On 18 July, local authorities in Lahad Datu, Sabah, were notified about a possible abandoned
tug and barge near Dent Haven. Upon investigation, it was found that tug SERUDONG 3, towing the barge
SERUDING 4, had no crew aboard and the main engine was still running. The tug carried a crew of five and one of
the crewmen has reportedly contacted the shipping company owner to relay a ransom demand from the

11. (U) SINGAPORE: On 18 July, the Singapore Police Coast Guard arrested four men for fraudulent possession of
marine gas oil. A statement released by the Singapore Police Force said that officers had inspected a foreign
registered tug boat just off northern Tuas, and during the check 25 metric tons of fuel was found hidden below
deck. The men were unable to provide a satisfactory account of how they had purchased the fuel. They were
arrested and the tugboat was seized for further investigation. (The Straits Times)
12. (U) BANGLADESH: On 17 July, pirates attacked a fishing boat operating near the Chittagong Gas Field,
leaving one fisherman dead. After shooting at the boat, the pirates boarded and ransacked the ship, in addition to

13. (U) PHILIPPINES: On 16 July, three robbers armed with knives boarded a berthed product tanker, near position
07:10 N - 125:40 E, New Davao Oil Mill Berth, while three accomplices remained in their boats. Robbers spotted by
duty crewman, alarm raised and crew mustered. Upon hearing the alarm and seeing the crews alertness, the
robbers escaped with ship properties. Port Authorities informed through the local agents. (IMB)
14. (U) INDONESIA: On 16 July, seven persons armed with knives boarded the bulk carrier BALTIMORE near
position 02:55 N - 105:19 E, 18 nm southwest of Pulau Mangkai, while en route Lanshan, China, from Canada.
They tied up the Master, ransacked the ship and escaped with stolen cash, ship properties, and crew personal
