It is time to begin the journey that has led so many people to fulfilling
careers as stage hypnotists.
Scroll down to the table of contents, locate Module 1, and begin working on
it. There are written and video components to each module. You should
already have access to the videos in this program. After you have finished
Module 1 (read the material in this eBook and watch the accompanying
video), continue through all of the modules until you have finished. Then
follow the link on the last page of this manual. You will be able to take the
exam on our student database.
To pass this course and become certified as a stage hypnotist, you will have
to pass a multiple-choice test with a grade of 75% or higher. You will also
be required to write an essay and upload a video to the database for Steve to
review. The details of this video can be found on the last page of this
manual.

Module 1
Course Introduction Part 1
People cycle in and out of trance and go to different levels throughout the
show.
Some people on stage just go along with it without being in hypnosis and
thats ok.
We all go into hypnosis every day (TV, books, just awake, just about to
fall asleep, etc.)
Ever watch TV to get happy or sad? You know it's not real but you are
affected anyway. Thats similar to hypnosis.
Module 2
Course Introduction Part 2
Beta 14 - 30 cps.
Alpha 8 - 13 cps.
Theta 4 - 7 cps.
Delta is sleep.
Myths
The following statements are often thought to be true, but they are
false:
Only dumb people can be hypnotized actually college kids and high
school kids are very easy to hypnotize, since they are in their prime years
of learning.
Module 3
Supplies and Layout
Supplies
Two CDs (or an iPod, iPad, etc).
20 cloth 16 inch wide chairs without armrests. Look at the rating and
make sure they can accommodate people up to 300 pounds.
-- Speakers.
-- Wireless microphone.
Layout
This diagram shows how to arrange your stage.
Module 4
Pre-show and Introduction
Pre-show
Meet with the producer.
Music This gets you and the audience in the mood for fun and it's
hypnotic. Before the show, meet with the audio/visual person. Give them
2 CDs a preshow mix with a variety of upbeat music from all genres
and show CD with your induction music, skit music, etc. Have a variety
of music 70s, 80s, 90s, hip-hop. Or you can have the music on an iPod,
iPad, etc. You can control it yourself if you do not have an audio/visual
person.
You can have a pre-show person pump up the crowd with the left side of
the audience applauding vs. the right side.
Recording Make sure your camera is set up to record the show so that
you can then sell the recordings afterward.
Two minutes before the show, have someone give a two-minute warning.
Introduction
Have someone announce you with upbeat music in the background,
"Ladies and gentlemen, live from_____, youve seen him/her on
________, please welcome________.
You say, Hello, city you are in, are you ready to have some fun? Well this
is my first, second, etc. time here. Are you guys always this fun? I know
you guys have some questions about hypnosis and I'm going to answer them.
Tonights show is an audience participation show. By round of applause,
who has been to a stage hypnosis show before?
Module 5
Pretalk and Convincers
Pretalk
The pretalk is your opportunity to educate the audience about hypnosis so
that people will want to volunteer to be on stage. You need people to
come up on stage, or you will not have a show.
Say, The good news is that hypnosis is just like a movie. It's something
you participate in and are a part of and enjoy. If you want to have the best
seat in the house and have more fun than anyone, you can come up in a
few minutes.
This is where the audience decides if they like you and trust you. It is the
most important part of the show.
If you do corporate shows, you will find that people do not want to be
there. Their company has required their attendance. You must pump up
your enthusiasm. They are in suit and tie and inhibited. Start out with,
"I'll bet you're happy to be out of the office." This separates them from
their corporate job. Keep in mind that at corporate shows, the audience
wants to see the bosses on stage, so tell them that the higher up they are
in the company, the easier they are going to go into hypnosis.
You won't miss the show if you come up, you will have the best seat
in the house.
Convincers
Use these to convince the audience of the power of hypnosis:
Convincer #1: Have you ever driven somewhere and you couldnt
remember the drive? That's hypnosis.
Convincer #2: Have you ever spaced out during class? That's
hypnosis.
Convincer #5: Hands held together like vise grips and you are unable
to pull them apart.
Convincer #6: Make the okay sign with your right hand and put it on
your chin. The hypnotist puts it on his cheek. Most people will follow
what the hypnotist does and not what he/she says.
Convincer #7: Lemon test- Have everyone imagine cutting open and
biting a lemon. They start to salivate.
Convincer #8: Eye fatigue- Your eyes close more and more as you
relax.
Module 6
Call to Stage
Say, I have 10 chairs up here and 200 people who want to be in these
chairs. I'm going to start giving these chairs away in a moment. If you
want to be hypnotized, have the time of your life, and have more fun
than anyone, raise your hand and
For a high school, do not ask for volunteers because they will all rush
the stage. Go to the audience and hand-pick them. Have them raise
their hands if they want to be in the show and then you pick them
individually.
Module 7
Pre-Induction Instructions
o Tell them to focus on you, not on the audience or the person next
to them.
Remind them that you will not reveal their deep dark secrets.
Tell them, This is your show and it's only going to be as good as you
allow it to be. When I ask you to make a noise, I want you to bring the
house down. But when I say be quiet, I need you to be completely quiet.
During the next five minutes of the show, I need you to be completely
quiet.
(To audience and committee) Make it clear that the induction is about to
happen and will last five minutes and you require absolute silence during
it.
(To committee) Don't get out of your chair unless I tell you to.
(To committee) say, Does anyone have any present illness, heart
condition, medical condition, back injury, neck injury or is anybody on
any kind of illegal or prescription drugs whatsoever? Escort them all
off stage if yes.
You'll always be able to hear my voice. When I say sleep, you will not
go completely to sleep, but you will relax, feet on the floor and hands at
your sides. Do not touch anyone on stage unless I tell you to. Close your
eyes and count to 10. Now open them. That's what hypnosis feels like. It
feels like sitting in a chair and listening to me. That's it.
Module 8
Induction and Deepening
The induction gets them into hypnosis but throughout the show, they
will be re-induced.
Say:
Deep breaths.
The smarter you are, the more easily you go into hypnosis (This is to
reduce the possibility that people who think they are too smart to be
hypnotized will purposely keep their eyes open. It also reduces the
possibility that people who are on stage and do not want to look
dumb will keep their eyes open).
Relax.
Lower your chin toward your chest. The lower your chin goes, the
more you relax (Monitor for obedience).
It's okay to move, cough, swallow, etc. These actions relax you more.
Relax the muscles around your eyes, cheeks and behind your head, let
your chin continue to lower toward your chest.
Good.
You can relax your mind as easily as you relax your body.
You know that tonight is the night you have chosen to have fun on
stage.
Deepening
See one white cloud (or sun, going down hill, etc.).
You're ready to have fun tonight and to cooperate. You are willing to
participate.
Module 9
Test Skit
This is the first skit. We start with a simple skit and build to more
complex skits. This building from simple to complex is called
pyramiding.
Put one arm out straight and feel as if a helium balloon is pulling it
higher and higher into the air. You can pull on their arm to help them.
Alternatively, you can have a bucket that slowly gets filled with rocks
and pushes their arm downward. Or you can tell them that their arm is
stuck straight up in the air and that they are unable to move it. Look
for obedience and dismiss those who do not comply.
Go to each person. Pull on their arm, push them to the side, say sleep.
Say, And any time I shake your hand, tap you on your forehead, or
say sleep, you will immediately go into a deep state of relaxation.
(Then count to three and bring them up. You are installing a
posthypnotic trigger).
Say, Ladies and gentlemen let's have a round of applause for your
participants.
Audience applause.
Start with the easiest skit and build to the most challenging. This
diagram shows this process.
Dismissal
Say, If you did not get a number or a card, please enjoy the show
from your seat in the audience. (Re-assure them that they haven't
done anything wrong).
Or you could have said during the deepening, If I touch you, wake
up and return to your seat.
Module 10
Introduction / Re-Induction
Say to committee members (those on stage), You guys are the best and
the brightest. I'd like to get to meet you. Go to each one and say, What's
your name? Where are you from? Have you ever been hypnotized
before?
Now committee members are in the sleep position, leaning against each
other with their eyes closed.
Say, Let's hear a round of applause for our stars tonight. The louder you
are tonight, the better the show will be.
Module 11
First Skit
A follow-the-leader skit.
Watch for floppers (people who have a tendency to fall out of their
chairs) and people who get out of hand. Keep your eyes on them
throughout the show.
For a follow-the-leader skit, tell them what to do and they do it. Have
them perform with their eyes closed so they remain detached from the
audience. You can also tell them to imagine a curtain separating them
from the audience. This makes them less selfconscious.
-- Say to the committee, Ladies and gentlemen, at the count of three, sit up
in your chair with your eyes closed and imagine that you are in a band.
When you hear music, keep your eyes closed, and with them closed
(compounding) play your instrument. You are competing for a $50,000
prize so play your best.
La Bamba
Or tell them they are all piano players and play the Peanuts theme. Tell
them that the piano is getting longer, shorter, higher, lower and they have
to adapt.
When you dismiss someone, say to them, Go ahead and enjoy the show
from your seat in the audience. Thank you for coming up.
Or hot and cold. It's hot and then it's cold. Keep your clothes on. The
room is 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120.
Then 120, 110, 100, 90, 80, 70 30 you have to huddle with someone to
stay warm.
Everyone's eyes are closed the whole time, so the other committee
members don't see dismissals. You did not want them to see other people
being dismissed from the show, this could distract them.
This diagram shows how to arrange your committee members on the stage.
Module 12
Deepening Skit
Happy pill.
Alcohol.
Laughing gas (high school, company) they breathe it and the more they
breathe, the deeper they go.
Be venue-appropriate.
Module 13
Show Skits
These are the main skits in your show, where most of the entertainment
happens. The skits should last approximately 5 minutes each.
Group skits
Voodoo doll- Whatever happens to the doll, happens to you (leg lift,
arm lift, tickle, etc.).
Additional skits
Juggling.
Phenomenon skits
Forget name Until you hear happy birthday song then you sing the
song with your name in it.
Voodoo doll can be a phenomenon skit if, rather than just follow-theleader, you say that they will only see the voodoo doll and not you
the doll appears to be floating in the air.
One person only speaks Martian. Martian talking and someone who
speaks English and Martian interprets.
Your shoes are puppies take them off and pet them (This also
becomes a convincer, because at the end of the show, their shoes are
off and they wonder how that happened).
Module 14
Individual Bits
Skits are done with the entire committee, but bits are done with individuals.
You will choose certain people to perform certain entertaining bits or to
react in a special way throughout the show. This is done by touching them
individually and saying to them that when they hear a certain sound or when
you shake their hand, touch their forehead or through some other activating
stimulus, they will respond in a certain way.
Before Install these suggestions before you get to the show skits.
Install You are installing the bits in individuals.
Touch Install them by touching one person at a time.
Select Select individuals based on their appearance.
Examples:
You have to dance when you hear this song (Play a song while
installing this bit so that you anchor the bit to the song).
Your belly button is missing and you realize it every time I say your
name.
You think someone pinched your butt every time I say your name.
You have an urge to dance when you hear this song. (Play a song
while installing this bit so that you anchor the bit to the song).
Module 15
Energizing Skits
These are used any time you feel that the energy of the show is lagging.
These skits cause the committee members to move quickly and they energize
them. The audience is also energized by seeing this, so the energy of the
show raises.
Uphill.
Downhill.
Making pizza.
Do one skit after another in rapid succession. This gets them pumped
up.
Module 16
Post-Hypnotic Skits, Final Skit and Trance Termination
Post-Hypnotic Skits
Having someone get a posthypnotic suggestion then come back on stage
or yell, etc. after the show: Don't do this because show has already ended
on a high note and this also creates a liability.
For example, do not program someone with this suggestion, When you
get outside, you are going to enter your hotel lobby and yell, I am the
king (or queen) of the world.
For the next two weeks, anytime someone touches you on the forehead,
you will laugh hysterically.
You will make positive changes in your life, whether you want to quit
smoking, lose weight, etc., you will find solutions to these challenges.
Final Skit
1. Grand finale.
3. YMCA.
4. Rap song.
5. Or use current popular dance of the time. For example the Macarena
would have been appropriate in the 90s.
6. The idea here is that you will have a large-scale full committee song or
something of that nature which will involve everyone and be very funny.
Trance Termination
1. Remove all suggestions Lost belly button, forgot the number two,
etc. individually.
3. Affirm that they have done a great job. Validate their experience with
a final round of applause.
4. Bring them back to the present. Say, "You are aware of the floor, the
room, and the people around you."
7. They all stand up and are all told how to exit stage safely. They are
escorted off of the stage by you and your assistant and met by an
usher as they re-join the audience.
8. Assistant and an usher make sure nobody jumps off of the stage. You
oversee everything.
10. Clap your hands in front of their face and say while you are clapping
"Wide-awake."
11. If that does not work, say Wide-awake! again while snapping your
fingers in their face and blowing a burst of air in their closed eyes.
Module 17
Lighting and Sound
Lighting
Dark with blue light during the induction.
Sound
Replace cordless batteries and replace cordless microphone batteries
before each show.
Make sure the audience and committee members can hear you clearly.
Mackie 402 speakers should be 120 W each. Need two speakers for the
audience. Need a monitor on stage so people on stage can hear you.
If you do not have an audio/visual person, you can use an iPod, iPad or
laptop for music. Have your music on a chair off to the side. For PC
users, use Windows Mediaplayer or use CDs on a laptop. You can also
use a remote control.
Module 18
Abreactions and Safety
Abreactions
These are abnormal reactions such as crying, screaming or any other
negative reaction to the hypnosis process. They need to be dealt with
quickly, efficiently and with respect to the individual.
Remember STOP:
Avoid any skit that involves regression example 8 years old, etc.
Do not make them any age other than the age that they were when they
came to the show.
Do not take them back to another era either as this can also trigger an
abreaction.
Count them up one two three and have an usher escort them to their
seat or see if they can re-join the show (in less serious cases). Tell the
audience everything is okay and that they are going to enjoy the show
from their seat.
Deal with situations quickly, with care, with respect and get back to the
show.
Safety
Liability insurance for performers:
TheHypnosisCompany.com/safety
SpecialtyInsuranceAgency.com
You may need to attend a live training and/or take a safety course online
to qualify for liability insurance.
Make the committee members keep both feet on the ground for safety
while seated.
Module 19
Notes
Remind them you sell DVDs of the show and hypnosis recordings on
your website and in the back after the show.
Make sure you are ready Be confident and have everything memorized.
If things get out of hand or reach a nice level, you can say, Freeze! It is
understood by everyone.
You must be polite, respond to people and ask if they are comfortable.
Use stackable cloth chairs about 16 inches wide with no armrests. They
are available at bizchair.com.
Folding chairs can be used in the locked position if no other chairs are
available.
Module 20
Review and Conclusion
As an alternative to wearing a nice suit or dress, you can also form your
own image by dressing as a pirate, having red hair, or something unique.
Encourage pictures after the show for posting and tagging on Facebook
and other social media websites.
Stage presence is important. Men's Warehouse is good for suits for men.
Separate and distinguish yourself from others.
Remember that the committee members are the stars of the show, not
you.
Watch for safety issues and avoid risking peoples safety. Always ask
yourself if someone can get hurt on stage and then correct the issue. If
you are unable to correct the issue, do not perform the show.
You can do a hypnosis show with people in their seats the whole time.
You must have insurance for bars and certain other venues.
Make sure your music and jokes are appropriate for the age of the
audience.
Take all of the info in this program and make it your own, adding your
unique style.
If you send someone offstage, make sure someone helps them off stage.
Corporate events may not want you to record and sell the show.
Also let them know you sell CDs and do private sessions.
Glossary
Alpha The lightest state of hypnosis with brain waves measuring 8-13 cps.
Assistant The person who stands behind the committee members on stage
to insure their safety.
Audience A group of people who attend a stage hypnosis show. These are
specifically the people who are not a part of your committee.
Binaural beats (Also called Binaural tones) Sounds that induce relaxation
and affect brainwaves by slowing brainwaves down.
Deepening skit A skit that brings the committee members to a deeper state
of hypnosis.
the show or 3. A committee member who has had an abreaction and will no
longer be participating in the show.
Four-walling The hypnotist gets four walls and the box office and keeps
all of the profits. However, the hypnotist pays for everything. Overall, this
can be more financially lucrative than receiving a salary.
Induction A relaxing story involving all of the senses that puts the
committee members their initial hypnotic state. The induction process
usually takes about 5 minutes.
Stage Hypnosis Training Program Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 98
Pre-talk The part of the stage hypnosis show in which the stage hypnotist
explains what they are going to do during the show. This is also a time to
establish the hypnotists credibility and demonstrate the power of hypnosis.
Test skit The first skit of the stage hypnosis show during which the
hypnotist and assistant look for non-compliance.

You will also have to create and upload to our server, a 15-minute video
demonstrating:
1. Your pretalk combined with your call to stage.
2. Installing one bit on an individual.
3. Installing one skit on a committee of five or more people.
Note: You only have to show the installation of the bit and skit, not the bit
and skit being performed by the individual and the committee.
