Summary
We selected SHELTER home because they been in this social work for more
than 20 years. SHELTER, a registered welfare organization and has been in
existence since 1981. And we named this project Sponsor Them-SHELTER:
Home for children
Shelter Homes have 3 Shelter which Shelter 1, Shelter 2 and Shelter 3. These 3
houses are divided by the children aged. Shelter 1 is a home for children from
aged 4 to 12 years, Shelter 2 is a home for girl teenagers from aged 13 to 18
years and Shelter 3 for a boy teenagers from aged 13 to 18 years.
They are children who have been abused, neglected, at-risk or abandoned by
their families, parents or guardians.
Most of their children here go to Government school. Some, however, (those
who are weak in their studies) go through a home schooling programme.
In time, SHELTER established 10 kindergartens in squatter settlements with the
first one being in Damansara Dalam (1989). A nominal fee of RM5 was charged
per student. These kindergartens were an effort in helping children from
underprivileged homes to have a good start in life. SHELTER decided to close
down the kindergartens after 15 years of operation when we noticed a dramatic
drop in the number of children attending our kindergartens - urban affluence had
also affected low income families in their perception and preferences for
education for their children.
As SHELTER evaluated the work, they decided to move into a more proactive
approach in helping disadvantaged children by being a positive influence on
teenagers. This project has potential & impact full in main streaming of orphans
& street children. Their basic needs are met & they will get new life through
gaining knowledge, vocational skills & life skills. They will get love & affection
as if their parents provides. Their confidence level will increase & become good
asset to the community. They are developed physically & psychologically &
made as good & productive citizens. They will inspire by philanthropy & show
humanity towards the community.

Introduction
This project is focusing on orphanage home- SHELTER and aims to provide
care and support their future plan.
In spite of planned development and special provision for accelerated socioeconomic development of neglected, disadvantaged sections, the issue of
orphan, semi orphan and street children is not properly addressed. Due to the
Re-marriage of Deserted, Widowed, Divorce women, Absence of love and
security in the families, Family disputes, unwanted pregnancy these orphan and
street children are left without care and support. These children are involved in
rag picking; pick pocketing and participating in anti-social, criminal activities.
Therefore, we envisage mainstreaming these children in the national building by
providing care and support to the selected orphanage homes. The project
proposed in this scheme is meant for additional support to run the orphan
children home. In our project Sponsor them - Shelter Home focusing on
development of this organization and care their needs.
