More Victorians are dying from overdoses involving prescription

drugs than are killed in road accidents, according to the state
coroner's office. Clinicians and experts in the sector have
also raised significant concerns about harms associated with
benzodiazepine use in the community.
GPs, pharmacists and AOD clinicians are invited to the North
West Melbourne Pharmacotherapy Network Community of
Practice to hear Dr Cameron Loy and Dr Dianne Kirby share
their perspectives on this topic to enhance your recognition of
benzodiazepine misuse and management in general practice
to decrease harms in the community.
Key Outcomes
On completion of this course you will be able to:
Inform patients of harms associated with benzodiazepine
misuse
Implement appropriate and safe benzodiazepine
prescribing
Recall complications and best practice from both GP and
Addiction Medicine Specialist perspective
Identify how and where to get support.
Presenters

Dr Cameron Loy, a Victorian GP with more than eight years

experience in prison health, including at Victorias Metropolitan
Remand Centre in Ravenhall.
This event event it brought to you
in partnership with Networking
