Animals are kept at zoo's for several reasons.

One is to preserve, protect or try and

repopulate animal species. Another reason is to teach people about them and their
enviroment. This helps protect them as well. I personally don't think keeping
animals in a zoos are horrible. Yes they cannot be in their own enviroment and they
have limited space but it helps both our and their species in several ways. We can
learn alot from animals. And the more we learn about them the more we can protect
them....and us. Sharks are actually being studied to see if they have cures for
diesieses or even cancer. It is really important to understand the world we live in.
Enagered species have even been repuopulated because of keeping them in
captivity
if all animals kept in cages nothing will look natural and life will loose that nice
taste.
they lose their natural animal instincts, and become handicapped by humans.
They need to be fed, cleaned, and taken care of. They will never be able to do that
on their own.
As long as we are talking about a good respectable zoo and not some road-side crap
hole, the plus side of zoos greatly out shadows the negative.
Yes the animals might be stuck in captivity but through them they serve as
ambadassors for their wild brothers and sisters. It gives the public a chance to
connect and learn about things they would have never had the chance to before.
Zoos have also transformed greatly over the years. They are changing from the old
concrete and steel pits/cages of the past to wide lush open habitats with live plants,
waterfalls, etc. On top of changing the way they house animals they have also
changed how they run things. Though zoos are still out to make money (to keep
doors open since most are non-profit) they have and still are moving to more of a
conservation and education outlook rather than strictly entertainment.
On top of all that, zoos work a great deal in rescue projects with injured wildlife as
well as breed and release programs with endangered species. For example sea
world and other facilities in FL were being over-run with injured manatees to the
point that they had no more room to house them. To help a handful of other zoos
built exhibits where the injured/sick manatees could recover before they were
released. With breeding there are many zoos who work together with the US govt as
well as programs around the world to breed endangered species and release those
that are born back out into the wild to help with new healthy blood lines. The
California Condor would be extinct today if it was not for such programs.
Zoos also use the animals in their collection to help learn how to better care for
those that are in the wild. Back to the manatee example. There is currently a virus
floating through the wild manatee popluation that the science world has yet to

figure out how it happened and how to stop it from spreading. Zoos are using their
captive manatees with the virus to try and find a treatment or cure so that they can
help the wild populations and re-release those that were sick.
So do I think animals should be kept in zoos? In this day and age it is a 100% yes.
Because of what man has done to this world it is something that is needed.
However, it should only be done for the right reasons and under the right
conditions.
If you did not see those animals in the zoo you would have no idea about them and
have no interest in them or in keeping their species alive. If every elephant in Africa
was wiped out by poachers who want their ivory or every rhino killed to make
potions from their horns the world would be a much more boring place.
When all the crazies are done killing the free ranging animals then only the ones in
the zoos would exist. Keep that in mijnd when you worry about the zoo animals
being bored.
no they should not be they should be however just checked thoroughly that they
haven't eaten anyone on an hourly basis
pro zoo animals
by putting animal on display it educates people on animals. People often learn to
love wild life from seeing them in person ,
Makes people more aware of endangered species ,
also many endangered species are kept from becoming extinct because of zoo
breeding projects ,, also vets learn how to treat exotic animal diseases from the
experience they have from treating animals in captivity .
so because of that animals in the wild benefit from what researchers and vets learn
from zoo animals

O i do not think that animals should be kept in cages or used for entertainment i
think all animals belong in their natural habitat
I think you are completely missing the point of zoos..they are NOT just for human
entertainment. Nowadays, zoos play an important role in endangered species
breeding programs, and soon zoos may be the ONLY place left in the world for wild
animals to be bred and live since we are destroying their habitats worldwide. Zoos
also may a major role in education. If not for zoos, the California Condor would now
be extinct! The Los Angeles Zoo and the San Diego Zoo both contributed to the
breeding program to release condors back into the wild. Zoos are now the ONLY
hope for several other endangered species to survive, such as Pandas, several rhino
species, etc. If you want to eliminate zoos you need to save natural habitat in the

wild. Unfortunately, most people are not willing to make an effort to do this. See
more info below:
So many people rant and rave about zoos..if only they would put this effort into
saving natural habitats for these animals to continue to exist in the wild..there
would be no need for zoos!
Yes, as long as they are well cared for and are provided with a large comfortable
enclosure.
Zoos often get a bad rap because of older zoos from centuries ago. Those kinds of
places were terrible, but modern zoos are a completely different idea.
And for 99% of the population the only way they'll ever see these animals in person
is at a zoo, or possibly the circus.

For Entertaintment, you may be right..

But for some reseach and learn something about them like their behavior in some
situations, their lifecycle and to save them zoos is very important!! With this that's
not wrong that people watch them.
Sometimes we have to separate entertainment and scientific!!!
I think this question is so agressif!! :(
think about dissections! hah?? is that entertainment?

The way things are going zoo's will be the only places that we will be able to see certain species
of animals ! I think that zoo's do a good job of educating people on the importance and needs of
animals ! All zoo's have breeding programs in place for many different species of animals and do
a fantastic job !
Humans are the dominate animal on Earth. There are both religious, and scientific
arguments and evidence that we have every right as a species to use other
organisms on this planet for our own good, whether that is curing cancer or for
simply enjoyment, as long as species are not being wiped out for no good reason.
Unless you think animals are the moral equivilent of people, which is insane, there
is nothing wrong with it.

Do you think animals should be kept in cages

in zoos?
We are doing a project/debate on the topic "That animals should not be caged in zoos for human
entertainment." We are on the negative side. We are asking you to give your honest opinion on

this question. We are going to look at the answers that you give us and then look at the majority
at the answers and use them in our debate.
Why should animals be kept in cage?
In some cases, it is for the animals protection. For example, if they have caught a tiger that they
wish to move to a safer habitat, having the tiger in a cage makes it safe for both the animal and...
Should animals be kept in cages?
never!! It is cruel and inhuman, even in a human society or shelter they re let out periodically for
exercise, but they have no other way to house them, and God bless the people that work there
and...
What animals should be kept in cages?
Lions,Tigers,and bears
Should animals not be kept in cages?
Animals as such as birds, rodents, snakes, etc. should be kept in cages. But dogs should if they
need to be potty trained.
Why animals should be kept in cages?
To protect them, and to protect other animals and humans.

Should Animals be Kept in Zoos?

For many people, the zoo is a source of childhood amazement and fond memories:
swinging monkeys, laughing hyenas and growling tigers. Conservationists say zoos
advance their educational and preservationist efforts, but others see zoos as prisons
where innocent creatures are unjustly held captive. The next time your child asks
you to take them to the zoo, what will your answer be?

Well, firstly we have to lay out the different pro's and con's about keeping the animals in cages
because, between keeping them in cages/zoos and or releasing to the wild, there is no "correct"
answer.
If we keep them in zoos, the thing is that they will have much resources and supply, not to
mention for some educational purposes. Some zoos are trying its best to create an environment
similar to that of their original habitat, however none can be exactly the same as the habitat. But,
it does have some similar effects, like learning how to interact with other animals (unless if the
animal is placed separately) or maybe even differentiate what is right and wrong, "humanly"
speaking. Some zoos can give almost everything the animal needs which is good and that

animals should be kept there, because nowadays, some animals can't find sufficient food
supply/water supply or a good location for rest, thus resulting in a hard life and maybe even
death. And by "hard life", I did not mean that animals will never have a hard life once they are
placed in zoos/cages, however at least there is a certain percentage of preventing it from
happening frequently. On the other hand, some zoos do not provide the best qualities or
resources for the animal, thus resulting in various diseases and maybe even cause them to be
badly educated, thus may result in death for our human population and etc.
Now because of some zoos in which do not provide the sufficient resource or needs for the
animals, contradictions rise to this because the animals don't deserve such treatment. Therefore,
some would want the animals to be free. The good thing is that it will learn who "it" really is,
whether it was meant to kill, whether it was meant to be a vegetarian or etc. As the habitat is
most suitable for them, they can adapt well to their environment and may learn how to depend on
themselves or their animal parents rather than to depend on us as they can never learn how to
survive without any help. Also, they can be free, and roam around the areas and experience more
things rather than to sit in a zoo in the same old mundane, monotonous environment. However,
the thing is that if they are educated in a way that it has to hunt to kill (such as Tigers in which
they learn how to hunt for food), and that since we share our world with them, they may try to
kill us when we encounter them. Now some people would say that they won't encounter them.
They are most likely wrong unless for certain rare cases such as that they stay in their homes
forever or being overly-protected and that it lasts forever. The percentage of you not
encountering them may be high, but that doesn't mean you will never encounter them. So if they
kill some of us, our human population will decrease and since we spend almost millions of
dollars helping out with the population today, it wouldn't be worth it if one of us die because we
are killed by animals.
Through the above mentioned, it is hard to say whether they SHOULD or MUST be kept in zoos
because both are good and bad in their own different ways, therefore the only answer is whether
the government or the agency comes with a final statement or confirmation of doing such. But
overall, I support both while depending on their own pros and cons.
Zoos in my oppinion should stop looking for new animals to capture and torture. I
will never take my child to a zoo. They go against moral values and God's law!!!
Zoos need to take care of what they have until they pass and then SHUT DOWN!!
They have no right to capture animals that they have in their midst. They're
beautiful creatures that need to be left alone in the wild. That is where these
creatures belong

If animals should not be kept in the zoos, then animals should not be kept as pets as
well. Animals belong in the wild for their natural purpose (because all living things

have one whether we understand it or not). Dogs and cats have not received the
best treatment they could receive, some of them developing dog and feline tumor
out of human carelessness towards their pets. http://www.hipetusa.com
How do you determine how an animal feels? I assume you have an idea of how you
might feel if "imprisoned with no reason." Can you explain how you would get an
answer from an animal?
As I understand it, very little is know about what and how animals "feel." Less is
known about how a human can make sense of what an animals "feels" without
comparing them to humans. It's a tough riddle. How do you scientifically solve it?

of animals and even their moods are very easy to read for a person that spends their time with the
animals. It is not hard to discern the feelings of an animal without applying a humanistic metric.
Of course we will still use the same words like frustrated, sad, or angry but that does not mean
that we gauge an animal by how a human would respond. Animal psychology is an extremely
valuable tool. I don't mean psychotherapy for your cat. I am referring to animal biologists
understanding the natural emotions of each animal in question.
While it may be harder for a behaviorist to figure out the diggings of an ant than it is to monitor a
temper tantrum of an orangutan, it's not hard to discern the moods or mental health of animals.
Do you have a dog?
Let's say I want to open my own zoo for a business and make money. Let's say I get my animals
legally, by purchasing them or if allowed by trapping them with a license...or however. Then I
make the cages to keep them in and I charge people to come see them. Wow, this is my business.
I make money. I own the land, the zoo, the animals. Period. I can do what I want with them. I can
also do what I want with the money I make from the zoo....so perhaps I donate it to a habitat
charity - or I hire scientist to work with the animals to develop better ways to keep the animals
healthy- because they are my property and I want to keep them alive to my business runs well.
So...its really not about the animals - its about the zoos. Of course if there was a State or
Federally run zoo --well I would really be frightened for those animals - we all know how
government run property ends up (look at how HUMANS can barely make it on government
welfare support---let alone some tigers!)
Personally though I wouldn't start a zoo... - wild animals - let them live in the wild. If we are
worried about their survival in the wild - poaching...we need to address the black market for
these animals ---get rid of the black market for hides and tiger's penises and we'll prolly fix stuff.
Zoos are under very strict guidelines established by law and the USDA inspects zoos on a routine
basis. The housing for the animals is inspected as well as every aspect of their care. Zoos are
NOT allowed to do anything they want with their animals. They have very strict record keeping
and accounting that is required for EACH and EVERY animal in their care.

Many people apparently do not understand that animals in zoos are primarily domestic bred and
not snatched from the wild. Perhaps their parents or ancestors were wild, but not most of the
animals we see today in zoos. Zoos also partner with conservation entities and support
conservation projects for animals in the wild. In some cases zoos are responsible for saving
representatives of endangered species. So, should animals be kept in zoos? YES. That is a major
way that the general public learns about animals and thru this learning they become familiar with
conservation projects and then can choose to donate to help support animals in the wild.
Keeping animals in zoos, entrapped in a small, artificial atmosphere, depriving them
of their instincts to survive, to hunt, taking every purpose out the animal's life itself
- that is how zoos work.
They strip animals bare of, if it exists, their dignity, just to entertain the masses. to
have ever seen a noble panther "in real life", seeing him sleeping or walking up and
down his small cage, waiting for insanity to kick in, wating for something to relieve
him from this prison.
Sure, zoos do ensure the existence of animals that are endagered and whose
habitats cannot sustain them, but what is the price the animals pay for existing? I
don't call that living, vegetating a lifetime. Sometimes it sure would be better to not
cling too much on the existence of an animal, but to let it die or even go extinct in
dignity. If we took all the money from the zoos and put it in animal protection, there
would be no need of them at all.
The attitude you take sounds much like what a poacher of wild animals would think.
If they can't survive, let them go extinct? I prefer to fight the masses of people that
are encroaching, killing, poisoning, and destroying wildlife at every corner of the
globe, through captive conservation. If you really believe that money will solve the
issue, you are in need of some social education . People will pay for education and
entertainment , better housing , and safe places for the little humans to go. That
often means encroachment of wild areas, and the destruction of eco-systems.
Animal protection is what zoos do. When did you last visit a zoo? Small enclosures
are not the norm anymore.
Zoos have proven to be very beneficial in the area of animal rights. Animals should
be kept in zoos because all animals would be extinct by now if it wasn't for zoos.
Zoos do not keep animals only for entertainment purposes. Zoos are required to
make the place that animals spend their time in and live in to be as much like their
natural habitat as they can. This is so the animals have a better chance of retuning
to the wild and also for the educational benefits for people. Many zoos are
government owned. Also most of them have a financially depreciating aspect. If to
make money was their main goal, the owners of the zoos would have closed down.
Why is it that they didnt? It is because one of their main goals are to help different
kinds of rare and endangered species survive. They can do this by uniting the male
and the female of a specie to mate. In the process, the zoos help the animals and
such by making animals comfortable by putting them into their optimum and
natural habitat, as I have stated before, by giving them food, shelter and so on. By
looking at these aspects of the zoo, it is obvious that keeping animals in zoos are
very beneficial to both animals and people. We are not locking them or caging them
im_trumpet. It just that. They are trying to help the animals live. That animal could

be almost exsinct. We do know that animals need there freedom xtaz4evax. They do
have space to run around. When i went to the bronx zoo i saw that the animals had
a lot of space. And I was happy for that. They are ill of oldness and we do share the
world with the animal Emilie. They are all around us. We get the supermaket and
pets are diffrent from the other animals Amber2015.Zoos are not prison for animals
cindycool (no she not) KD (lidding) Zoos help them from extinction and hunger. You
are right coolsauce. Although Some zoos help the animals by leting thepeople feed
them and learn more about the animal more them how to feed them. Look what i
wrote on the top for xtaz4evax cbcvivas. Look who talking mursal123. Who u calling
a loser here. We are not puting them in cages!!How many times do i have to
say this???? WE ARE GOING THEED WIN THE DEBATE mursal123(who the loser here)
TishBoB i love animals to but u got to understand. Zoos are trying to help them not
lock them up. They are not puting in cages just for a show Alexia. I know how u fell
but BLAME ADEM AND EVA!!! LOL they lamb and the lion use to be together not
killing but eve and adem sin and then They sin. Should animals be kept in zoos? I
think animals should be kept. And Ill tell you why I think they should and why other
people think they should and some facts. Let me start with some facts. Zoos are
marketed as places of entertainment they are places of education. When you
leave the zoo you leave with a full knowledge of the animals. I think when you leave
the zoo you do know a lot more about the animals and is habitats. The reason that
so many schools take students to the zoos is to teach them about nature, the
environment, endangered species, and conservation. Animals can be studied in the
wild but they can be studied more closely, more carefully, and over a more non-stop
period of time in captivity. As long as animals are treated well in zoos there is no
reason why conservation, education, and cruelty-free entertainment should not all
be combined in a zoo. This is to Alexia. Are you serious one where are you getting
your info from. In no well zoo(that passed its safety testing) has elphants locked up
in chains. Lets be real. But i do agree with you when you say it is wrong to keep
animals in cages just for show, but thats not what zoos are about. They are the
biggest reason to protect indangered animals. They don't even in since 2006 take
animals from the wild. They buy animals from other zoos. And every animal well
excuse me 98% of animals were borned in the zoo. So letting them back in the wild
yea they'll all die. Most of the animals are DAMM lucky that they can be fed, bath,
and treated for. They don't have to worry anout the wild and will i eat in the next
week. Zoos are very useful and if you are so againist it WHY WERE YOU ENJOYING
YOURSELF AT THE ZOO????? So we can see them instead of going to far away
places. Animals must be keep in zoos for many reasons: Like if someone hurt them
or hunt for them who will help them?
In zoo they are safe. They should but they should be kept fed and away from danger
Yeah I think they should.
No, I wouldn't want to be locked up in a cage, but having some animals locked up in
a cage is a good thing.
Most little kids or even older and "mature" adults taunt and tease some of these
dangerous animals. But lucky their in a cage and the animals can't get out.
Sometimes, though the animal can and it can lead to death or serious injuries .Their
should be animals in zoos, and animals in cages for protection.

Against

Animals are born in their natural habitats, and we are just taking them from it.
Animals aren't meant to be put and locked in a cage. They are meant to be free.
Back to my point, we shouldn't just take them from their home. It's like if you are 6
7 8 9 10 and beyond those years they just take u and lock u up in a cage with
different people. I think that someone put animals on this earth to help us, befriend
us, make cheese yogurt that sort of stuff! They are natural creatures, who to live in
natural enviorments. Not to be caged up in a zoo. We can observe them in their
natural home by bird watching and that sort of stuff. I'm not against zoos but I'm
not with them either. Zoos are like prisons for animals. No even though it provides
almost endless entertainment, animals should get to live their lives to the fullest
and not have people staring at them every minute. Its animal cruelty give them
their freedom that they deserve. Thats right people!animals should never be kept in
caged and for that i am debating at skool telling everyone in my class to tell thier
parenst and stop people from caging the animals! The other team are loserS and
btw haave fun losing ;) go animals. I <3 animals, they shud not be locked up. It is
wrong to keep animals in cages just for show. How would you like it if you were kept
in a cage all day and the rest of your life with people coming to the zoo and stare at
you?it is wrong. Did you know, that elephants not only have a little pasture to roam
around in, but, they also are kept chains on their feet and have cement floors.? No,
you don't because all you people care about is your life. No, you don't have to live
like that. No, YOU don't have to have people stare at you all the time.God put
animals on this planet to help us. To feed us,To give us milk, cheese, yogurt,ALL that
stuff. NOT to be kept in cages. That is why God made rain forests and jungles. But,
unfortunately, assholes AKA people that don't care what happens to animals.TEAR
THEIR HOMES DOWN.and you know what happens? When their homes get tore
down, people are like"well they don't have a place to live so lets put them in cages"
ITS NOT FAIR.yes i like to go to the zoo and look at them, but then i realize that
that's their life..all day ALL THE TIME. Its awful. It should be against the law. No dogs
make kids happy and rats gerbils and mice could not handle the noise how would
we get milk go to the zoo and get it from the cows. Why should animals be kept in
zoo's?? They were put on this earth the same time as us, and maybe even before
us!! We are all animals and so they should share our world with us. Just because
they are more vulnerable to us than we are to them doesn't mean we should lord it
above them and lock them away. Unless of course they are ill and would be unsafe
in the wild and then of course they should be kept somewhere. Or if the specie is
near extinction then i think its right to! But every animal has a right to freedom.
ANIMALS NEED their FREEDOM!!!! Only if their species are dying out they should
breed them and make sure they are away from danger... But think about you being
locked in a cage... You may say you wouldn't care but you probably would if you
were stuck in a cage!!! Animals need their freedoms just like we do. Just because
they don't have governmental rights like we do, doesn't mean that we can lock
them away.
