Position: First Grade Teacher (Six Years)
Responsibilities:
Taught six groups of first graders using Indiana State Standards (22-24 students)
Created weekly lesson plans using differentiated instruction to meet all students needs
Maintained weekly contact with all parents through emails, newsletters, phone calls, etc.
Interacted and collaborated with other teachers on the first grade team to plan units, share
best practices, and discuss student progress several times each week
Facilitated parent teacher conferences and provided examples of student progress and
suggestions for growth
Guided students to meet their academic goals in math and language arts on standardized
testing for six consecutive years-all groups showed tremendous growth
Created and wrote curriculum for first grade summer school for the entire Brownsburg
Community School Corporation (taught summer school for three years as well)
Facilitated students to create an extensive data/writing portfolio which was shared with
parents and families each May to show growth in all academic areas
Hosted a Helpful Hints for First Grade Parents night each school year in addition to
Back to School Parent Information and Open House (presented and modeled ideas
for parents to help their child and provided a take-home packet and manipulatives)
Successfully accommodated and met the academic and social needs of several autistic,
LD, and ED special needs students by modifying lessons and differentiating instruction
