Task Description | FOOTiNG

Task Description

The SSD task FOOTiNG determined either for given loads the necessary foundation measurements or he leads at predetermined foundation measurements
necessary evidence through. Loads than vertical forces, moments and horizontal forces are taken into account. The design combinations required are automatically formed. Additional stresses second order theory can be considered.
The foundations for a bending design, a push or a tax punching shear are performed. It can be single and strip foundations are processed. When the footings
of a quiver can be arranged.
There is also the opportunity to take on the expense of a Auflagerknoten
SOFiSTiK from a database (eg from the support task COLUMN).
The data entered in a graphically interactive working environment within the
SSD (SOFiSTiK Structural Desktop).
The program FOOT determines the necessary foundation dimensions in dependence on the defined loads and permissible soil pressure. The permissible soil
pressures can be preset or determined from the tables 1 - 6 according to DIN
1054:2010-12 or from self-defined tables. Axial forces, moments and lateral
forces in both directions are allowed as permanent and imposed loads. A bending design and a punching checks is done by the program for the foundation.
Isolated foundation and strip foundation can be calculated here. For isolated
foundations it is possible to defined a sleeve. Additional moments according to
second-order theory and loads acting on sleeve are allowed for the design . If
desired, a picture of the determined foundation including loads can be output.

Input tabs

2.1

System

In the tab System general information about the foundation are set, for example position title and the selection of materials for concrete and steel and all
information for control of the proofs and calculation.

In the section General the following control options are available:

Rounding foundation: Rounding value for the automatic determination

of foundation size (default 0.05 m)

Critical cut: Distance of the critical perimeter for the punching shear.
With the default setting iterative the program automatically calculates
the worst punching cone. For special situations or comparative calculations, alternatively a factor can be entered (e.g. 1.4*d).

Reinforcement: Average longitudinal reinforcement level in [%] within

the circular cut 1.5d. With the default setting 0.0 [%] the level of the
reinforcement in round cut 1.5d is determined from the calculated reinforcement.

Load raise factor: The load raise factor takes into account the effect

of moments in the loaded area. For special situations or comparative

analyzes alternatively here can be entered a factor.
Default: If no moments exist, the program sets =1.1 as a minimum,
otherwise the load raise factor is determined according to the German
"Heft 600".

Design section: Here the location for the dimensioning cut (bending design foundation) is specified. The following design sections are available:

2.2

Geometry

In the tab Geometry the Foundation type and its dimensions are set, as well
as the axis distance for the reinforcement design.

Predefined Foundation dimensions can be set using the Lock-symbol. In case a

verification is not successfully complied and both Lock-symbols are opened, the
Foundation dimensions will be increased, holding the given proportion bx/by.

2.3

Column

All information related to a Columnn connected to the Foundation is located in

the tab Column. The dimensions and materials are taken automatically when
it is possible.

Eccentricity
In case an eccentric column, there are two possibilities to control the automatic
increase of the Foundation dimensions.

2-4

Based on Foundation edge:

The values of e and ey will be measured from the outer Foundation edge
and mantained during the calculation. A positive value refers to the right
side, a negative one to the left side.

Based on Foundation center:

The values of e and ey will be relative to the center of the Foundation. A
positive value of e displace the column in positive x-direction.

In tab Soil the values related to the soil are set.

Soil Resistance:

The design values of Soil Resistance can be selected from the Tables
A6.1 - A6.8 (DIN 1054:2010-12).

A user defined table is also allowed.

A permissible Soil Resistance can be defined instead of a table (default

210 [kN/m2 ]).

Soil layers:

Several soil layer can be taken into account, they are represented in the
corresponding graphic.

The location of the ground water level will be considered.

Additional loads:
An uniform additional load can be defined for the Foundation.

2-6

Permanent: The load will be consider as permanent for the soil verification.

Variable: every soil verification will be perform once with the variable load

Loads

In tab Loads take place the load input, which can be set manually or automatically from the corresponding reactions stored in the database(CDB). Additional
influences for Second Order Theory (M, H) can be agregated to the table.
These will be consided for the determination of the load conbinations.

The next input options are available:

For a pure FOOTiNG-Project the selection of Nodes is not allowed.

Some default Load Cases are already included (G,Q,S,W), the corresponding loads will be manually inserted. Additional Actions and Load
Cases will be added in the Load Case Manager. With the Button Create
the MAXIMA-Engine will be started to define the relevant Load Combinations for each verification and the will be shown the respective table.

The loads can be taken over the Program COLUMN selecting the corresponding Node.
The support reactions will be taken from the Database (CDB) and the
Load Combinations for the different proofs will be generated with help
of the Superposition Program MAXIMA. Additional influences for Second
Order Analisys (M, H) can be included in the table.

The loads can be assigned through Node selection also in case of a general 3D System.
The support reactions will be taken from the Database (CDB) and the

SOFiSTiK 2016

Methods of Analysis | FOOTiNG

Methods of Analysis

The determination of the minimum foundation dimensions is don according to

DIN EN 1997-1:2009-09 / DIN 1054:2010-12. An opening of the ground joint is
not allowed for permanent loads.
The maximum permissible foundation dimensions are 21 m in all directions.
They are rounded to a integral multiples of a rounding off value.
The permissible soil pressures can be input or they can be determined with
an interpolation by the program from the tables A6.1-A6.8 DIN 1054:2010-12.
Another possibility is to use a table which is input by the user. Different combinations of internal forces and moments can be defined for a foundation.
In addition it is possible to taken over combinations of internal forces and moments from the SOFiSTiK database. The necessary foundation dimensions are
determined then for these combinations in dependence on the available soil
pressure.
At the end the bending design and the shear check are done for all combinations.
The design occurs according to DIN EN 1992-1-1:2013-04. A design
cut is divided in eight sections. A corresponding part of the total moment is allocated to every section according to table 2.10 Heft 240 DAfStb. The distribution
may be asymmetrical in case of foundation which is loaded eccentrically. The
punching check for EC 2 according to the relevant design code.
Several load cases which include axial forces, moments about the X and Y axis
and lateral forces in X and Y direction as permanent and imposed load can
be considered for a foundation. The largest necessary foundation dimensions
result from one of these load cases. These dimensions are used for the bending
design and the punching check for all other load cases.
For the check of the permissible soil pressures the stress are calculated for the
moment loading about the X and Y axis. On the other hand only the in each
case corresponding moment acts unaxial for the determination of the design
moments. It is calculated in dependence on the input at the column section, in
column centre, at the sleeve edge for sleeve foundations or in the centre of the
sleeve wall.

The indications are described in Heft 240 DAfStb page 25-27. A coordinate
system in clockwise direction is preset for the load definition. The positive Z axis
shows in direction of the axial forces.
A system values, like foundation sides, column sides, foundation thickness and
static heights are specified in cm. The loads have to be input in the SI system in
kN and m and the stresses in kN/m2 .
The control of the determination of the foundation size is activated via a definition
of the foundation sides.
The application point of the loads lies in the origin of the local coordinate system
for the foundation. The origin of the Z axis lies at the upper edge of foundation,
for sleeve foundations at the upper edge of the sleeve.

Input Description
Input Language

The input occurs in a free format with the CADINP input language (see the
general manual SOFiSTiK: Basics).
Three categories of units are distinguished:
mm

Fixed unit. Input is always required in the specified unit.

[mm]

Explicit unit. Input defaults to the specified unit. Alternatively, an

explicit assignment of a related unit is possible (eg. 2.5[m] ).

[mm] 1011

Implicit unit. Implicit units are categorised semantically and denoted

by a corresponding identity number (shown in green). Valid categories referring to the unit length are, for example, geodetic
elevation, section length and thickness. The default unit for each
category is defined by the currently active (design code specific)
unit set. This input default can be overridden as described above.
The specified unit in square brackets corresponds to the default for
unit set 5 (Eurocodes, NORM UNIT 5).

values is modified. The program starts the iteration with the absolute value.
BX > 0, BY > 0
The input foundation dimensions are not modified. A comparison with the permissible soiol pressures is not done. The soil pressures are determined with
the defined foundation dimensions and the defined loads. It follows the design
and the punching check. If the stability check is not correct, then the foundation
dimensions are increased and an information is printed.
BX > 0, BY < 0
The measure of BX is here not changed. BY is determined in such a way, that
the permissible soil pressures are kept under the available loads.
BY < 0, BY > 0
The measure of BY is here not changed. BX is determined in such a way, that
the permissible soil pressures are kept under the available loads.
BX < 0, BY < 0
BX and BY are determined. In this case the aspect ratio of BX:BY is not modified.
BX = 0, BY = 0
BX and BY are determined. The constant aspect ratio results from the column
dimensions CX:CY.
