financial aid
Information
PURPOSE

IMPORTANT DATES

Hampton Universitys Financial Aid Program exists to

help those students who have strong academic
potential and limited financial resources. The
fundamental purpose is to provide financial assistance
to students who would not be able to attend the
University without such aid.
HOW TO APPLY

After January 1 ....... Submit completed FAFSA to the

Federal Processor
Feb 1 ............................ Students are strongly
encouraged to complete and
submit the FAFSA
March 1 ....................... Deadline by which Hampton
University must receive FAFSA
from the Federal Processor for
priority consideration
July 31 ......................... Deadline for Virginia residents
to file for the Virginia Tuition
Assistance Grant
SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

is the application for financial aid at Hampton
University. All students applying for aid must also
apply for admission or be currently enrolled at the
University. Financial aid awards are made only after
admission to the University. A completed FAFSA must
be submitted to the Federal Processor with a request
that the data be sent to Hampton University. Hampton
Universitys Federal Student Code is 0 0 3 7 1 4. The
FAFSA is accessible at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Families should file the FAFSA in early January in
order to ensure that the data is processed by the
Federal Processor and forwarded to Hamptons
Financial Aid Office no later than the March 1st
deadline. Simply submitting the FAFSA by March 1st
to the Federal Processor is not sufficient for priority
consideration. For further information about financial
aid programs, policies, and procedures, please contact
the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by calling
1-800-624-3341 or email: financialaid@hamptonu.edu.

All students admitted to Hampton University will be

considered for academic achievement awards based
on academic credentials on file with the Admission
Office. In some cases, additional information will be
requested from students being considered as finalists
for these special awards.
Virginia residents should apply for the Virginia
Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG). TAG is available to
Virginia residents based upon Virginia domiciliary
status, using guidelines established by the State Council
of Higher Education for Virginia. Applications will be
mailed from the Financial Aid Office to entering students.
Non-Virginia residents are encouraged to apply for
financial aid programs in their home states. Schools,
social and civic organizations, and employers with
which the family is affiliated are also possible sources
of assistance.
