I am delighted to write a letter of recommendation Alex Boullon for an elementary school teaching position. It
was my pleasure to mentor and supervise Alex as a student teacher in a 1st/2nd grade combination classroom at
Newport Heights Elementary School in Newport-Mesa Unified School District from January-March 2016. His
responsibilities to the class during this time included weekly and long term instructional planning, whole class
and small group instruction, participation in school-wide professional development, and general classroom
management.
Alex is an organized, thoughtful, and caring teacher. He Is very attuned to his students academic and social
needs. Alex spends a lot of time and effort developing appropriate lesson plans for his students, resulting in a
classroom with excited and engaged learners. Alex has a repertoire of positive classroom management skills,
which are necessary when implementing new routines with students. He makes personal connections with each
of his students and plans lessons based on real-world examples and student interests. After each lesson, Alex
genuinely takes the time to reflect on his teaching and adjust his instruction to ensure he is reaching all of his
students.
Our program at UC Irvine strives to prepare our student teachers for the realities of teaching elementary
school. Alex is well versed in the expectations of the Common Core State Standards and is fully prepared to
implement them in the classroom. Alex will adapt to new curricular programs and will put in the extra
planning to guarantee that his lessons are engaging. He is prepared to assess his students using performance
based assessments and rich tasks, in order to fully understand his students progress and growth needs.

Overall, I would recommend Alex Boullon. His positive attitude, dedication to his students, and desire to
continually develop his own learning will be an asset to your school district. I believe he will act as a true
