Defining Mast Locations

In this section, we will learn how to add lightning masts to the design by recording X,Y and Z values.

1. Open the drawing page 3D Layout-Line 1-Site-4 in the project Substation IEC Tutorial.
2. Open the Lightning Protection tool located in the 3D Layout Design task with the keyboard short cut of E+0.

3. Select the green plus at the bottom of the dialog and enter the following coordinates for the top of a lightning mast.
X: 694
Y: 334
Z: 70

4. Repeat step 3 entering the following coordinates for the next mast.
X: 694
Y: 315
Z: 70

5. Repeat step 3 entering the following coordinates for the next mast.
X: 736
Y: 334
Z: 70

6. Repeat step 3 entering the following coordinates for the final mast.
X: 736
Y: 315
Z: 70

7. At the top of the dialog enter the Lightning Radius as 20 and the Ground Height as 44.

8. Ensure the Add masts to drawing box is checked and press the Process button at the bottom of the dialog.

Notice how a large portion in the center of the station is not covered by the shape. This will be addressed in future exercises.

9. Remain on the drawing page for the next exercise.

Placing Lightning Masts

In this exercise we will insert masts into the design. Then we will select the top of the masts to for the lightning
protection.

1. Remaining on the same drawing page as the previous exercise, select and delete the shape inserted in the previous exercise, but leave
the four red poles.

2. Open the Insert Substation Objects dialog and locate the part number: 3D LP MAST 25M

3. When placing the masts accept the default Device ID and set the Placement method to DTM with a Starting Elevation of 0.
4. Place the first mast below the trench in the middle of the line.
5. Place two additional masts above the line, to the left and right of the bend in the trench.

6. Open the Lightning Protection tool, and at the bottom of the dialog select the Pick Mast button below the grid. Then select the top of the
first mast.

Hint: Use AccuSnap to select the top of the mast more easily.
7. Repeat step 6 until all seven masts have been selected; this should include the three masts placed in step 5 and the four red poles
leftover from the previous exercise.
