--Each infraction results in lowering the conduct grade.
12.
Working on assignments for other classes is not allowed. Such assignments will be taken up and
not returned to the student.

MAKE-UP WORK
1.
It is the student's responsibility to get all makeup assignments as soon as he or she returns to
school. The student should ask the teacher for clarification about make-up work.
2.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO HAND IN OR OTHERWISE MAKE UP THE
WORK WITHIN THE APPROPRIATE TIME LIMIT. District policy states that students have one day to
make up work for every day of excused absence. District policy also states that zeroes may be given for all
work missed due to an unexcused absence.
3..
Make up tests: If you are absent for a quiz or test, you need to make up that test in a timely manner.
The longer you wait to take the test, the less you will remember about the material covered on the test.
If you are absent for a quiz or test, you have three class days to come in and make up the test. If you
do not make up the test in that time, you will have to wait until the end of the six weeks and take the
comprehensive six weeks exam as your make up test.
TESTING
I give frequent quizzes that are based on the written work that has been done. Unit tests are also based
on written work. Quizzes and tests are sometimes timed, in keeping with the expectations of the STAAR and
College Board tests. During any testing situation, from a five-minute quiz to a 55-minute semester exam,
students are expected remain quiet and to not distract in any way any student who is still testing. The last
student to finish deserves the same quiet, undisturbed, non-distracting atmosphere as the first to finish.
TEST REMEDIATION
1.
Test remediation (to improve a grade on a failed test or quiz) could be offered in the form of a comprehensive
six weeks exam
2.
The highest grade possible on the six weeks exam will be 70.
TUTORIALS
We will do our best to work with any student who needs help, but our class schedules require that
tutorials take place before or after school.
Students must make prior arrangements with the teacher they need to see.
GRADING
1.
2.

I use a weighted grading system:

Homework is worth 1 grade.
Class work is worth 3 grades.

3.
4.

Quizzes are worth 5 grades.

Major tests are worth 7 grades.

Special projects, papers, etc., will be weighted individually.

You will grade much of your own work so that you can make corrections. You must have a red grading
pen in class with you at all times. Highlighters and markers not accepted.
Late Work Policy for grade level classes:
We want to prepare students for what they will find in high school and college, and teach them to work
within deadlines. Students will have one opportunity to recover a zero per six weeks. The teacher will

assign a date and time before or after school for the student to recover the zero for 70. If the student
does not have the assignment ready to be graded by the specified date and time, the grade will remain
a zero. The zero must be made up within two school days of the original due date for a maximum
grade of 70.
All classroom material/work will by posted on my classroom website, www.jgruberhistory.weebly.com .

WEEKLY GRADES
1.
2.

Grades will be available online. Contact the office for details about Parent Self Serve.
Students should see me individually at an appropriate time for more information about their
grades. Parents may call or send notes to request progress reports any time. Please allow at least
one school day to enter recent grades and print the report.

CLASSROOM WEBSITE: www.jgruberhistory.weebly.com

I maintain a website that will include all notes, worksheets, and activities done in class. This is a great resource to
use for absent students, students who lost their work, or for students to get ahead. This is for both parents and students to
use at their own will. Website Name: www.jgruberhistory.weebly.com
POLICIES REGARDING CHEATING
Please reference the Boles Junior High Academic Honesty Policy for cheating and consequences for doing so.
OVERALL

I realize that these guidelines might seem to emphasize the negative, but I feel it is necessary for
all of us to understand our responsibilities and the consequences of not carrying out those
responsibilities. The more closely we follow the rules and guidelines, the less time we have to spend
on negative consequences and the more time we can spend on completing assignments in class and
enjoying other rewarding activities. You will also earn the positive consequence of good grades and a
successful year. Your attitude and conduct are important - cooperation, participation, and showing an
interest can only help your grades. I look forward to a successful year!
