Mooreland Schools will not


be serving breakfast during the
current school year. A press release
we received last week was incorrect. The school will provide
lunch only.We understand there
have been a lot of inquiries about
breakfast, so we are sorry for the
inconvenience.
The Mooreland High School
Class of 1976 will host a 40th
class reunion during homecoming
weekend. The class will have a
float in the Homecoming Parade
Friday, Sept. 16. They will also
meet at the Community Center
(old Legion Hut) after the football
game. They are also inviting the
classes of 1975 and 1977 to join
them at the Community Center.
Coach Frank Howard and the
Bearcat football team travel to
Crescent Friday, Aug. 19, for their
first scrimmage. The gridiron battle
begins at 6:30 p.m. Mooreland
hosts Chisholm and Weatherford
Thursday, Aug. 25, in their final
preseason tuneup. Junior high
teams square off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the high school. Regular
season play begins Friday, Sept. 2,
at home against Sayre with kickoff
slated at 7:00 p.m.
The Lady Cat fast-pitch softball
team plays in the Leedey Invitational Softball Tournament in
Leedey and Vici this week. Pool
play will be held Thursday (today)
and Friday, Aug. 18 and 19. Mooreland plays at Vici with Arnett,
Cheyenne, Ringwood, Shattuck
and the host team. Leedey hosts
the other pool of teams consisting
of Arapaho-Butler, Canute, Dale,
Hammon and Sentinel. Medal
games will all be played Saturday,
Aug. 20.
Roy Butler sent a nice note with
his subscription renewal. He said,
Keep up the excellent publication.
Its much enjoyed and appreciated. Thank you Roy!

MHS Homecoming Planned


September 16-17 Weekend
We know its still summer if you
look at the calendar but Mooreland
Homecoming 2016 is just
around the corner.
Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and
17, are the days set
aside by the Mooreland Alumni Association to celebrate
our shared Mooreland
High School heritage.
Activities will kickoff
on September 16, with the VIP
supper from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in
the school cafeteria. Homecoming
parade will commence at 5:30 p.m.
on Main Street.
Parade prizes will be awarded for
floats in two divisions: Pre-school
through sixth grade and seventh
grade through senior class. Prizes
will be: first, $75; second, $50,
and third, $25.
Parade participants need to be at
the corner of Main and Southwest
Fifth Streets near the First Baptist

Church no later than 5:00 p.m. for


judging.
The homecoming game
with the Bearcats taking
on the Merritt Oilers will kickoff at
7:00 p.m with queen
crowning ceremonies
starting at 6:30 p.m.
Merritt school colors
are black and orange
for those needing help in
planning their float theme.
Alumni events will held Saturday, Sept. 17, in the gym lobby.
Registration will be held from
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A social
time for alumni to talk and catch
up is planned from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
followed by the Alumni Dinner
beginning at 6:00 p.m.
An Alumni Association business
meeting will take place after the
dinner.
If your graduating class is planning a get together let us know and
well help get the word out.

Website Update

Free access to parts of The


Mooreland Leaders new website
continues, but only online subscribers will have capability to
see the entire edition each week.
The Leader expanded its online
capabilities with a new website
July 21, complete with advertising, weekly online issue, links to
its facebook page and the archive
site morstparchives.com.
The website can be accessed at
moorelandleader.com.
Rates for print copy subscriptions remain at $29 in Woodward
County, $37 elsewhere in Oklahoma and $45 out-of-state. Online
subscription is currently $33.
Special combo rates for print
and online editions of the paper
will be $20 above the print rate
Woodward county $49, elsewhere
in Oklahoma $57 and out-of-state
$65.

Online subscribers will set up


their user name and password for
their paid access to the website and
weekly edition.
Print advertisers are being given
an opportunity to place their ads on
the website for an additional $10
upcharge. Non-print advertising is
also available.
After August 15 current issue
of The Leader was blacked out
for anyone other than online subscribers and combo print/online
subscribers. However, everyone
will have access to advertisers and
breaking news or pictures placed
randomly each week.
Please bear with us while we
learn to use this new tool we are
providing for enjoyment of our
readers, editor/publisher Jeff
Schnoebelen said this week. It
may take some time to get all the
bugs ironed out.

New Teachers Begin Year

Three new teachers and one


returning to Mooreland Schools
were on the job on the first day of
school Friday, Aug. 12. Shannon
Eslick, Kala Gaines and Kylea
Cartwright are beginning their first
year teaching in Mooreland while
Marsha Bowers returns after a few
years away.
Eslick has 10 years teaching
experience (all in Woodward) and
will teach fourth grade. She has
two children who are attending
Mooreland schools, Lydia, a fifth

grader, and Luke, a third grader.


Gaines has taught four years in
Texas and spent the last three as a
teacher/coach at Sharon-Mutual.
She will teach special education
in Mooreland.
Kala and husband, Don, have
two children who are attending
school here, Kadon, a first grader,
and Keanon, a pre-Kindergartner.
Cartwright is a 2011 graduate
of Mooreland High School and
will teach fifth and sixth grade as
a first year teacher. She and husband, Jeremy, have a one-year-old

son, Lane.
Bowers has 10 years teaching experience with seven in Mooreland.
She taught yearbook, computers
and business in her previous stint
from 2006 through 2013. She
taught at High Plains Technology
Center in Woodward the last three
school years.
Marsha and husband, Justin,
have three children, Kayla, 24, and
Cody, 22, both MHS graduates,
and Keeton, an eighth grader in
Mooreland Schools.

Pioneer Telephone/Cellular To Host Customer Day


Pioneer Telephone and Pioneer
Cellular will celebrate 63 years in
business during a one-day customer appreciation event to be held,
Thursday, Aug. 25, in all Pioneer
Telephone and Pioneer Cellular
retail locations, during normal
retail hours.
Those attending will enjoy refreshments, receive a registration

gift (while supplies last), and register to win a prize drawing including
