Presbyterian Women (PW) oers

women in the church meaningful ways
to live out their faith in the midst of a
caring community of women. For
more than 200 years PW groups have
strengthened the Presbyterian
Church and played a major role in
sharing the good news of Jesus Christ
and witnessing to the promise of
Gods kingdom. We are an inclusive,
caring community of women rooted
in faith and join together regularly for
prayer, study, service and fellowship.
You are invited to participate in this
wonderful ministry at New Braunfels
Presbyterian Church.
Small groups are the heart of PW.
Several options exist for you to walk

with sisters in Christ. Every group is

open to all and welcomes you.
Esther and Mary Circles study
Gods word this year with Who Is
Jesus? by Judy Yates Siker. Monthly
Bible Studies meet September
through May.
Dorcas Circle is a service group
that has a full year of exciting projects
planned. These hard working women
cook, knit, sew, glue, package,
assemble, and support one another as
they oer support for our
congregation and neighbors.
Events throughout the calendar
year are open to those who
participate in small groups AND
those who come when they can.

PW hosts an annual Fall

Celebration and Springtime Birthday
Party where we enjoy programs,
speakers, fellowship, good food, and
join together in mission outreach
oerings.
Women also attend the annual
Mission Presbytery Spring Gathering
and Womens Conferences at MoRanch.

The Birthday Offering Collected at the Birthday

Party and sent in immediately. Since 1922 the Birthday
Oering has helped fund and find real solutions for
projects related to health, education, economic
development and the needs of women and children
domestically and internationally.
The Thank Offering Collected at the Fall Celebration
and sent in before November. 40% of this national
oering is used to support hospitals and community
health programs helping those most in need. 60% is
used for new creative ideas for mission, undesignated in
advance.
The Least Coin Offering Collected at each circle
meeting during the year and held by the circle chairman
until the May circle meeting. It is turned in to the
treasurer to be sent to Mission Presbytery immediately.
Joy Scheel Scholarship Fund Encourages and
supports women of our congregation to attend
Presbyterian Women functions.

Events throughout the calendar year are open to

those who participate in small groups AND those
who come when they can. Your presence would be

Author Judy Yates Siker invites
us to join her on a journey to
expand our understanding of who
Jesus was and is- a journey of our
hearts and our minds, a journey
that we will take together. I invite

experience the various lenses and
how these dierent perspectives
impact your understanding of who

QUESTION, WHO IS JESUS? THROUGH A PARTICULAR
THEOLOGICAL LENS. WHO IS JESUS...
1. ... according to Mark? Jesus is
Gods son.
2. ... according to Matthew? Jesus
is the long-awaited Jewish
messiah whose teachings open
the kingdom of heaven to us
here and now.
3. ... according to Luke? Rejected
by his own- Jesus, prophet of
God, turns the world upside
down with his teachings.
4.... according to John? Jesus and
God are one.

5. ... according to Paul? Paul

stresses the centrality of the
cross of Christ in
understanding true
discipleship.
6.... according to Hebrews?
Believers are to hold fast to
their faith in times of adversity,
and remain firm in their
commitment to Jesus who has
run this race before them and
now reigns in glory with God.

Marymount University in
Los Angeles. She is a
teaching elder in the
PC(USA) and can be found
preaching, teaching, and
leading spiritual retreats for
churches throughout
California. She has
published work geared both
to the church and the
academy. Her most recent
publication is a curriculum
titled Images of Israel, a work
co-authored for North
American Christian
churches as part of her
work with the Shalom
Hartman Institute for
Jewish-Christian
Understanding at
Muhlenberg College,
Allentown Pennsylvania.

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE LEAST COIN

Since 1956, Christian women on all continents
have responded to the call of the Founding of the
Fellowship of the Least Coin, to pray for
reconciliation in the home, the community, the
nation, and the world, and to work for peace with
justice. We are called to make a covenant to share in
this fellowship of prayer and to set aside a penny as
we pray as a visible symbol of this partnership. The
treasurer sends this as a separately designated

oering to PW, Mission

Presbytery. An international
committee approves grants
for programs benefiting
women throughout the world.

History of PW at New Braunfels Presbyterian

and Past Presidents
THE WOMEN OF THE
CHURCH of New Braunfels
Presbyterian Church organized
on August 2, 1955, with 11
members attending. In 1965
there were 2 circles- morning
and evening- consisting of 51
members. In 1973 a third circle
known as the sewing circle was
organized. Forty members were
listed in these three circles.
Records in 1975 list Circle #1 as
a Bible study group meeting in
the morning, Circle #2 as a
Friendship and Projects group
also meeting on another
morning and Circle #3 as a
Training Circle meeting in the
evening. Sixty members were
listed.
The following year the circles
were listed as Morning,
Afternoon, Evening, and
Friendship, plus a Bible study
group. Our first yearbook was
printed in 1986, and the circles
were named, Esther, Ruth, Sarah
and Martha. The Women of the
Church (WOC) became
Presbyterian Women (PW) in
January, 1987. Mary Circle was
added in 1987 and in 1993,
Rebekah Circle was begun. In
1994 an evening circle was

begun again using the name

Sarah. The Dorcas Circle was
formed in the summer of 2006
as an evening, multigenerational, service circle
replacing the Sarah Circle. In
2012, the Lydia Un- Circle in the
evening was born. In recent
years the PW Board was
renamed PW Coordinating
Team. 2016 heralded the
retirement of Ruth Circle.
