    CourseDescription
    In6thgrademathstudentswillconcentrateonthefourmainfocusesoutlineinthecommoncorestate
    standards.Thefirstfocusareawillbeconnectingratioandratetowholenumbermultiplicationand
    divisionandusingconceptsofrateandratiotosolveproblems.Studentswillcontinuetodeveloptheir
    understandingofthedivisionoffractionsandextendtheirknowledgeofallrationalnumberswhich
    includesnegativeintegers.Studentswillpracticewriting,interpretingandusingexpressionsand
    equations,aswellasdevelopingandunderstandingofstatisticalthinking.
    MaterialsNeeded:
    Studentsshouldcometoclasspreparedwiththesematerialseveryday.

    Amathnotebook,looseleafpaper,abinderorfolder,pencils,redpens,calculator,scissors,a
    rulerandmarkersorhighlighters.

    ClassExpectations:

    Studentsareexpectedtotreattheteacherandotherstudentswithrespectatalltimes.Any
    typeofdisrespectisnotacceptableinthisclass.

    Studentsareexpectedtobeintheirseatsandpreparedforclasswhenthebellrings.Being
    preparedforclassmeanshavingallmaterials,notebooks,pencils,etc.outandready.

    Payattention.Talkingwhiletheteacherisinstructingorwhileotherstudentsarepresentingwill
    notbepermitted.Listenthefirsttimedirectionsaregiven.

    StudentswillbeinuniformaccordingtoSt.Markuniformdresscodeatalltimes.

    AttendancePolicy:

    Studentsmustcometoclasseveryday.Missingclassmeansmissingvaluableinstruction
    andgroupactivitiesthatwillrequireextratimeonthestudentsparttocatchuponwhatwas
    missed.
    Forunexcusedabsences,studentswillreceiveazeroonanyhomeworkorinclass
    assignmentsthatwereturnedin.

    Forexcusedabsences,THESTUDENTisresponsibleforfindingoutfromtheteacherwhat
    theymissed.Studentswillhavethesamenumberofdaystheywereabsenttomakeupand
    turninthework.

    Homeworkandmissingworkpolicy

    Completingmathhomeworkisessentialtosuccessinmath.Expecthomeworkinmathat
    least3to4daysaweek.Homeworkisnotapunishment,butavaluabletooltohelpyou
    succeedinmath.Homeworkwillmakeupagreatdealofyourmathgrade.Allassignments
    shouldbelabeledwiththestudentsfirstandlastname,date,andassignmenttitle.
    Allstudentsareexpectedtoturninworkbythegivenduedate.Anyworkturnedinlatewillbe
    deductedby25%perdaylate.
    Istronglyencouragestudentstochecktheirgradesonlineonaregularbasistoseeifthey
    haveanyassignmentsmissing.

    AssignmentsandGrades
    Studentswillreceivegradesandpointsintheformofhomework,inclassassignments,
    quizzes,projectsandtests.
    Someassignmentswillbegradedbasedoncompletionorparticipation,meaningIwilllookto
    seethattheydidtheproblemsandshowedtheirwork.Otherassignmentswillbegraded
    basedonaccuracy.
    Studentswilloccasionallyhavetheopportunitytoregainahalfcreditfordoingquizandtest
    correctionsaftertheyhavebeenhandedback.Thismustbedonewithinthetimeframegiven
    bytheteacher.
    Therewillbelittletonoextracreditopportunities.Workhardanddoyourworkthefirsttime
    aroundandyouwillnotneedextracredit.
    MISCELLANEOUS
    Ifyouneedextrahelpoutsideofclassorwouldliketomeetwithmepleasesendanemailor
    speaktomebetweenclassesaboutarrangingatimebeforeorafterschool.
    BysigningbelowIacknowledgethatIhavethoroughlyreadthroughthissyllabusand
    understandthepoliciesandexpectationsofMissHordsmathclass.
