Traditional Healing Coordinator
Full-Time Permanent
The Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice
Aboriginal health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, holistic health services by sharing and
promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of wellbeing. The Centre provides services to Aboriginal people including those who live on and off reserve, status,
non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the southwest region. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health
services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. We are also mandated to build health
care capacity within Aboriginal communities. Currently, we are seeking the services of a Traditional
Healing Coordinator to join our interdisciplinary staff team. Position may be located out of any one of
SOAHACs current sites.
Position Summary: The Traditional Healing Coordinator will facilitate comprehensive, Indigenous
traditional knowledge exchange, translation and mobilization with SOAHACs Traditional Healing Staff
members, visiting healers, integrated care managers and integrated care teams at all levels of the organization
and senior leadership team as required. Responsible to meaningfully engage local Indigenous traditional
communities and help recruit Elders, healers, medicine people and helpers to SOAHACs Integrated Care
Teams at each site, within our health care environment. The Traditional Healing Coordinator focuses
SOAHAC on high quality traditional healing services provision within the AHAC Wholistic model of health
and wellbeing and the integrated care model, while supporting local traditional healing capacity development
and sustainability for future generations.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Extensive experience/ knowledge of medicines, traditional healing, other ceremonies, cultural teachings
and traditional ceremonies across SOAHAC sites, urban and on-reserve
University Degree or Diploma in social services, mental health, leadership, native studies, or related
field an asset
Recognized as an experienced Traditional Teacher, Healer or Elder by community
3-5 years experience in Administration
Computer proficiency including proven ability to use relevant technology
Experience in coaching and mentoring
Experience in evidence-based, community action research
Traditional knowledge acquired through at least 5-7 years direct work experience with
Elders/Healers/Medicine People, traditional communities, societies or community driven cultural-based
education programs;
Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
Must be willing to travel.

Must have and maintain a valid drivers license. You will be required to submit a clean drivers abstract
and proof of current automobile insurance prior to employment offer.
A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check is a condition of employment
Ability to understand and speak native language(s) an asset
Lives and Promotes a healthy lifestyle

Responsibilities:
Provide Mentorship and Coaching to Traditional Healing Service Area (Healers and Helpers)
Assist and support the visiting Traditional Healers, Elders and Medicine People
Knowledge of different Nations that reside in SOAHACs communities and surrounding area
Coordinate travel arrangements and accommodations for the visiting Traditional Healers
Assist in obtaining the necessary supplies, equipment, resources for the provision of traditional healing
services; such as medicines
Collecting and recording client information/data and entry to the electronic medical records,
Assist with program reports, budgets and submissions, annual work plan
Plan, organize and coordinate cultural workshops/programming/activities/teachings/ceremonies for
clients and community
Support the expansion and evolvement of traditional healing services across all SOAHAC sites
Engage local Indigenous traditional communities and help recruit Elders, healers, medicine people and
helpers to SOAHACs Integrated Care Teams at each site, within our health care environment
Assist in providing cultural consultations and resource services and bring innovative ideas and practices
to bridging traditional and western health methods
Broad cross sector stakeholder relationship management, communications and interdisciplinary
collaboration
Respect clients confidentiality at all times
Attend and actively participate in team meetings
This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by Southwest Ontario
Aboriginal Health Access Centre.
Please Note: This position is based on annual funding and is full-time @ 35 hours (5 days) per week.
Salary is competitive and subject to experience and funding. Comprehensive benefit and pension
package included. Position may be located out of any one of SOAHACs current sites.
