Classroom Rules
Cell Phones: Phones are occasionally used as a learning tool in class. For that reason, you do
not have to turn off the phone, but if we are not using it, it must either be out of sight or turned
over on your desk. If you are using it when you are not supposed to, then the following will
happen:
1st offense-warning
2nd offense-phone will be taken for the remainder of the class period and you will get it back at
the dismissal bell.
Passes: You may ask to leave the classroom to use the restroom. Passes are allowed the
teachers discretion, so you may be denied permission at any time. You must sign out on the
clipboard near the door. Sign back in when you return, with the correct time.
Tardy: Warmup activities are a part of the start of class on most days. If you are tardy you may
miss warmups or the beginning of notes or assignments. Unexcused tardies (those without a
pass from office or teacher) will result in you having to get the notes and explanations you may
have missed from another student. I will not re-explain the work for you.
Food & Drink: NO FOOD is allowed in my classroom unless it is something that I am giving out
as a prize or treat. Do not bring popcorn, drinks or other foods from lunch or you will be told to
throw them away. You may have a bottle of water only. No Gatorade, iced tea, energy drinks,
etc.
Other: Just as it states in the student handbook, these rules are not necessarily a complete
listing of all possible offenses or requirements. Ms. Phillips may add to these rules if classroom
discipline and atmosphere dictate to assure that all students have a comfortable, safe and
functioning learning environment.
GRADES/HOMEWORK
Grading: Grades are earned as total points. Your grade is based on the following assignment
types. Tests/Quizzes, warmup points, class participation points (homework). Keep track of your
grades on PowerSchool! It is up to you to ask if you think a mistake has been made and to keep
track of how you are doing.

Regular quizzes/ Tests cover sections of material or in the case of a test, a unit or chapter.
These will be given as the teacher sees fit over the course of the trimester. If quizzes and tests
are missed due to absence, it is your responsibility to arrange a time to make these up. Quiz and
test grade points are doubled in the gradebook, so you need to take your studying seriously!
Class Participation will be based upon your homework scores (see below). Missing
assignments will result in loss of points for that day. The total points for the week will equal 10,
so two points per day.
Warmups: You earn 2 points per day for each warmup completed, for a weekly total of 10
points. If you are tardy or unexcused absent, you will receive a zero for the day.
Homework Policy: Homework is scored on a simple point basis, 0-3, and the student will
initially assess themselves as to the point total they should earn. The teacher will have final say
over this total. Below is a description of how totals are earned. These points DO NOT add up in
the final grade, they are used to determine the class participation grade only! Missing a great
deal of homework will affect your grade negatively in the long run, so please make sure you
complete it!
0: Work not done at all, no work shown, minimal problems attempted, no correction of
errors made, demonstrates no understanding of topic(s)
1: Some problems attempted, little work shown, few or no corrections made to errors,
demonstrates little understanding of topic(s)
2: Most problems attempted, work shown, corrections made to errors, general
understanding of topic(s)
3: All problems attempted, work is shown, correction of all errors made, strong
understanding of topic(s)
Answering questions/presenting: If any other student or Ms. Phillips is talking or presenting
information, you need to respect their turn to speak. Please do not raise your hand, call out
answers, or interrupt, particularly when it is your classmates turn to give an answer. Pay
attention to all presentations and discussions. If you do not, you will miss important information.
Repeated violations may result in you being asked to leave the room for a period of time.
Absences/making up work: If you will be absent for an extended period of time, you can
request our assignments by emailing me. Worksheets will not be posted on the weebly due to
copyright issues; however, I often post reviews and answer keys on the weebly. Use it! I will
post tutorial videos as well. It is the responsibility of the STUDENT to find out what was missed
and make it up and turn it in. The requirement is one day make-up time for each day missed.
Please plan ahead if you know you will be absent for any reason.
