Dear Stephanie Baer,
As Chicago experiences arctic-like temperatures, you can imagine the struggles of the
homeless. Shelters fill quickly. Even limited exposure to the cold air can cause frostbite. And a
days worth of begging barely produces enough money for one warm meal. Those with children
wonder if they will ever be able to provide proper care for their kids. Their daily struggles are
unsettling, and compassion calls for a solution. Thankfully, Chicago has an answer.
Founded in the early 1990s, A Safe Haven Foundation doesnt just provide the
homeless food and shelter, but teaches them how to reclaim a sustainable life.
Angalia Bianca is A Safe Haven success story. After 36 years of heroin abuse, crime,
prison time and homelessness, the Chicago native found help with recovery and job training at
A Safe Haven. Bianca is now using her experience in a positive light. This recovering addict now
holds a steady job at CeaseFire-an organization that interrupts violence before it escalates in
Chicago. As an implementation/community affairs specialist, Bianca trains staff to mediate street
conflicts and track data on shootings and homicides.
The Run to End Homelessness is an annual 5K organized by A Save Haven to help
people like Bianca. This years event will be Sunday, July 12 starting at 8:00am in Chicagos
historic Douglas Park. With help from sponsors 101.9fm, ABC7Chicago, Enova and more this
years event is sure to beat last years $750,000 raised.
I am offering you an exclusive on Biancas story, as well as inside look at A Safe Havens
yearly Run to End Homelessness event on July 12.
Please contact me by June 1 to arrange an interview with Bianca and a member of A
Safe Havens board. I can be reached by phone at 847-867-5309 or email at
